This is a very beautiful Temple. All of the statues are hand made, inside and outside of the temple. I have never seen so much beautiful pieces of work in my life. Every piece of each statutes inside, outside, on the walls, gods, roof, are hand made by individuals from India. I was told that it a group of individuals who traveled from India and lived in the basement of temple a few years to hand make each piece in the temple. Each piece was made to perfection. If you are ever invited to visit this temple, I can promise you will not be disappointed.

The pantry is staffed by people that are as friendly, accommodating, and efficient as they can be. Some of the people visiting the pantry, on the other hand act in somewhat ungrateful ways and use inappropriate language. In spite of this the staff are supremely accommodating and friendly in the face of some of this disrespectful behavior. The staff, who I assume to be volunteers, are a shining example of what Christian loving kindness should be. I am grateful for that. And I take every opportunity to express that gratitude.

This is a wonderful modest place where friends and visitors study the word of the true God Jehovah God. They participate in discussions and encourage each other. They take seriously the Bible’s commission to Preach God’s kingdom so they learn how to do that effectively and lovingly. This is a dynamic organization where all baptized Witnesses are preachers who do not get paid to do so. They invite any person who wants to learn the word of God. No contributions are ever taken.

First impressions on Google make this look like a modest space for spiritual practice. In reality, the location is in a residential space and looks very sketchy. I signed up for the intro to Buddhism class, which was abruptly canceled right before the class began. I’m not convinced it’s even a legitimate location. I wouldn’t recommend coming here.

We Are Not Our Mistakes

I’m giving this place 1 star not out of aggravation but disappointment. I tried to connect to the beginners class on zoom and no one started the meeting. I’ve sent several emails asking about their practice and also why no one was conducting the zoom meeting and I have not recieved any responses. I’ve also left 2 messages by phone with no response at all. For all I know, this place is not currently operational, though I have seen nothing online that would suggest that. Its a pity, I wanted to study under a teacher and incorporate Buddhism into my own life.

I have been Buddhist for quite some time, but I’ve only ever practiced Zen. A good friend of mine invited me to IBC, and I must say these people are amazing. They were so kind and welcoming. I didn’t know what I was doing but they guided me through it. I did not feel like an out case at all. Also, Geisha-la is very kind as well, he made us all tea, with a smile on his face the whole entire time. I highly recommend you check this center out, they are the best Buddhist place I have been to so far! I will be returning every Saturday.

Currently I have no review to give, just a message to pass. Into hoagland did arrive … A monkey carrying a great message of importance did arrive into the foreign tribe with the message. The monkey understood this tribe to be nearly blind and so used simple vibrations to get their attention. The foreign tribe recognized the vibrations and were stunned and frightened and instead of listening to the message ran off the foreign monkey. The monkey is a man coming into other men, who are so blind and yet so simple, they have even in their blindness on the spot, banned simple monkey language. Awake to truth … INTO YOUR TEMPLE DID ARRIVE … a monkey with message of great important. And so was ejected this monkey. Let truth be spoken. Satnam.

Frequently asked questions about education in Indianapolis

The Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) system – what is its scope?

The Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) represents the largest public school system within Marion County. Its reach extends across a significant portion of the city, encompassing over 30 learning communities and serving approximately 32,000 students from early childhood through 12th grade. IPS operates a diverse range of schools, including comprehensive high schools, specialized magnet programs like the Howe Montessori School and the Early College Virtual Learning program, and alternative education options designed to meet various student needs. The system's administration is overseen by a elected school board responsible for setting policy and managing district resources.

What are IPS’s key strategic initiatives currently?

Currently, IPS is heavily focused on several key strategic initiatives outlined in its five-year plan. These include a significant investment in early childhood education through expanded pre-K programs, aiming to build a strong foundation for all students. A major priority is also the implementation of the ACES (Adults Creating Educational Success) program, designed to support student success by addressing non-academic barriers like food insecurity and mental health challenges. Furthermore, IPS is actively pursuing digital learning initiatives with expanded access to technology and blended learning models, alongside a renewed focus on career pathways and preparing students for the workforce.

How does Indianapolis’s school funding work?

Indianapolis's public schools are primarily funded through a combination of state funds – predominantly from the Indiana Department of Education – and local property taxes. Marion County levies a property tax rate to support education, which is then distributed among IPS and other local school districts. This funding model can sometimes lead to disparities in resources between different communities due to variations in property values. The Indianapolis Public Schools Foundation also plays a role through fundraising efforts aimed at supplementing district budgets and supporting specific programs. Recent debates have focused on equitable distribution of state funds.

What are the options for students seeking specialized education within IPS?

IPS offers several unique educational opportunities beyond traditional classrooms. The Magnet School Program allows students to attend schools with a particular focus, such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), arts, or global studies. Additionally, IPS operates the Early College Virtual Learning program, enabling high school students to earn college credit while still in high school. There are also specialized programs for students with gifted and talented abilities, and those requiring special education services, ensuring a tailored learning experience.

What is the role of charter schools within the Indianapolis education landscape?

Indianapolis has a growing number of charter schools operating within the city, managed by independent organizations. These schools are publicly funded but operate with greater autonomy in terms of curriculum and management. While charter schools offer diverse educational approaches, their performance varies significantly, and ongoing discussions center around their impact on overall school system effectiveness. The presence of charter schools has contributed to a more competitive landscape within Indianapolis’s education sector.

How does IPS address student achievement gaps?

IPS recognizes the persistent challenge of student achievement gaps between different demographic groups. Strategies for addressing this include targeted interventions focusing on literacy and math skills, particularly for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The district employs data-driven decision making to identify areas needing improvement and implements evidence-based programs designed to close those gaps. Professional development opportunities are provided to teachers focused on culturally responsive teaching practices and strategies for supporting diverse learners.

What is the involvement of parents and community members in IPS schools?

IPS actively encourages parental involvement through various initiatives, including school-based parent organizations (PTOs), volunteer programs, and regular communication channels. The district also fosters partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to provide additional resources and support for students and families. Efforts are being made to strengthen community engagement around school policies and decision-making processes.

What is the process for transferring students between IPS schools?

The process of transferring students within IPS typically begins with a request submitted by the parent or guardian. Factors considered during the transfer process include student needs, school capacity, and enrollment priorities. Students are generally prioritized based on factors such as residency, special education status, and program interests. The school principal plays a key role in evaluating transfer requests and facilitating the transition for both the student and the receiving school.

How does IPS support students’ mental and emotional well-being?

Recognizing the importance of student mental health, IPS has implemented several initiatives to promote well-being. These include increased access to school counselors and psychologists, social-emotional learning (SEL) programs integrated into the curriculum, and partnerships with local mental health organizations. The district also provides training for staff on recognizing and responding to students in distress, fostering a supportive school environment where students feel safe and valued.

What are the ongoing debates surrounding education reform in Indianapolis?

Several key debates surround education reform within Indianapolis. These include discussions regarding school choice and the role of charter schools, equitable funding distribution among districts, the implementation of new curriculum standards, and efforts to improve teacher recruitment and retention.
