Emi was wonderful, we arrived almost an hour late and she still made sure to include and catch us up immediately. She had a very positive personality which made the entire experience absolutely delightful, everyone there was super friendly and nice. Emi made the evening feel very fun and relaxing, I hope to be able to do it again sometime ☺️

Sara McInerney Hauck

This wonderful place offers so much for all ages! I love that they let you pick your craft, give you supplies and instructions and then leave you to it. It’s so relaxed and great for big or small groups. I could go back 100x with all the different pieces they offer. Most recently, I went with a large group and we loved and appreciated working with Madeline who patiently helped us all. They also serve adult drink which is an excellent plus.

So much fun, for all ages who love art! They have a wide variety or items to choose from. We can't wait to go back and make some glass pieces. Would definitely recommend for some family times with the kids or fun date night. Our "server" wasn't great and didn't really give us too much attention but it was fine! We were walk ins and did get to sit right down and start some projects! We had an absolutely great time. They also offer wines and mock drinks but we didn't partake. They do allow you to bring in outside waterbottles. I saw others with them. We spent just over 2 hours here and probably really could've spent 3.

Was pleasantly surprised not only of the options (pottery, glass, candles, wood painting) to choose from but all the options within like colors and styles and extra textures and the help from the employees. First time coming and will definitely be back. The fact that everyone I talked to that worked there was pleasant and helpful to the enjoyable experience made this a great choice for my friends and I to spend some time together.

We had a wonderful time for a small group to celebrate a birthday here today! Liz was very attentive and helpful throughout the entire process, even assisting one of our group members in redoing her project after the first attempt was unsatisfactory. We painted wood signs and made a scented room spray. A fantastic time and would go back again for sure!

We had so much fun at Pottery by you today! The workers Rob, Liz, and Lucille were all so kind and helpful! We laughed a lot, the music was awesome, and we all created beautiful pottery works that we are excited to use in our homes. It was fun painting and Liz gave us so many helpful tips and worked with us to make sure our pieces were perfect! We can’t wait to take them home!

Jeremy Mitchell

Great experience! Purchased 3 "tickets" to paint pictures of our dogs with my mom and daughter. They will ask you in advance for the picture of the dog and they pre sketch on the canvas and paint the eyes and nose on the dog for you. Additionally, they will ask you what background color you want and premix it. 2 hours to paint seems like a long time but it goes fast if you want to do a good job. The instructor, sorry, I can't remember her name, did a great job of letting us know where we should be at, for example, "alright, we should be done with our backgrounds in the next 10 minutes." This is great so you don't get behind and run the risk of not finishing. I probably could have spent another 2 hours on my painting, but the point isn't to create a Renoir. The point is to have fun with friends and family. We didn't purchase wine, but others did. Everyone seemed to have fun, lots of smiles, lots of encouragement from the instructor. Highly recommend this as a couples night or family event. We had a lot of fun and made some great memories.

So much fun! Mom and I walked in for a "pop in and paint." Excellent service and great prices. The staff are very upbeat and funny. Definitely give yourself as much time as possible, because some of these paintings have a lot of steps 😅 But the instructions are super easy to follow. They have a LOT of pictures to choose from for your painting. I've added a picture of my choice from the binder with my resulting painting. They also have drinks (alcoholic and non) and snacks (mostly bagged chips). We saw they do painted wine glasses and custom candles too if you're looking for something like that.

Great way to spend a Saturday morning with some girlfriends! Starting from entering the place to leaving with our lamps, we had a great experience! Art and nature interspersed to create a charming place to enjoy the outdoors. Kids can roam around with plenty to entertain them. There are places to look over the river. When we went there was a fun community art project inside where you create an ornament to add to a tree on the wall using recycled items. It was a lot of fun and we will definitely go back.

For years I had dreamed of having my wedding reception at the Indianapolis Art Center, and working with Mason and her team was a dream come true. My husband and I toured the facility 15 months before our big day and highly recommend approximately that time frame for a place as popular as this. The IAC referred us to our caterer, and set up our reception seating with tables and linens. Additionally, they took care of tear down after we made our exit. Our guests enjoyed cocktail hour under the portico while we headed to the river for our family pictures. The pergola and Ivy wall were a gorgeous backdrop for our sweet heart table and most breath taking of all were all the hanging string lights. I could not imagine a better setting for an outdoor wedding. Beyond that, we booked the library as a place inside to escape just the two of us for our last dance. Magic.

Such a great spot! We walked the trails and saw the sculptures. We headed inside to warm up at the little coffee shop. The library was cozy and clean with even some sweet little kid art books. The inside galleries were super cool and the workshops looked fascinating!

Today’s August 2 it’s a nice summer day, and we came to walk through the sculpture garden. They’re limited sculptures. The landscaping is poorly maintained. The walkways have inconsistent gravel. And there is zero art installation inside. Today is a Saturday. Experience not worth going. Attendant at the front was very nice and helpful and said that at the end of the month, the art exhibit will actually have art

Jason Johnston (Jason R. Johnston)

The outside area is pretty with some interesting sculptures, and nicely shaded by green tunnels. The nearby river is calming, with some decent views via the wooden walking platforms. You can also stroll right down to the water if you don’t mind getting a little dirty. The art on display when I visited today is a little too leftwing for my tastes, but hey, that’s art. I wouldn’t bring children through it. I’m not in town long enough to take any classes, but it seems really cool. There is a nice little library down one of the halls. The art center looks nice and pretty well maintained, and the few staff members I ran into seemed polite and helpful.

My SO & I went this W&C location on the stop 12th road. I, myself, enjoyed the class & my painting turned out decent. The instructor we had was clear about his directions BUT he moved along WAY. TOO. FAST. The only reason I was able to keep up is because I have experience in art. My bf & the rest of the class struggled to keep up. I found myself at times having to finish up what I was doing while half listening to the next step. It was irritating at times but I still enjoyed myself. What also caught me off guard was how the instructor & the other two employees were dressed. They literally had on street clothes. I almost thought we were in the wrong location. I noticed was at the end the painting session when the last step was completed the instructor LITERALLY LEFT THE ROOM IMMEDIATELY AFTER. The other two "employees" started packing up the supplies. The wrap this up & to put the cherry on top I checked the time and it said 450pm….the class was suppose to go from 3-6pm… No wonder we felt rushed because the instructor was literally rushing through the steps. *sigh* I would have enjoyed the class more if the instructor did not speed through the class & took his time. Not sure if the instructors change or theyre the same for all classes but I will not be coming back to this location for the time being. Thank you W&C.

During a sister/cousin girl's weekend in September, our Create Art Studio workshop was the PERFECT activity that gave us a timeless keepsake from our weekend together! I considered getting us custom, matching sweatshirts made but then saw this workshop being hosted and knew we had to do it. The workshop exceeded our expectations – we learned a new, fun hobby from an excellent, knowledgeable instructor, enjoyed snacks and drinks while we crafted in the gorgeous, intimate workspace, mingled with fellow crafters and even got to take home generous supplies to ensure we could complete our hard work from the comfort of my home later that evening. Thanks to this workshop, we now have a lasting, tangible memory from our incredible weekend together. We are so thankful!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Create Art Studio and its owner, Aliyssa! I was planning a special print class for my cousin’s bachelorette party from out of state, and even though her studio wasn’t available for our date, Aliyssa went above and beyond to create an alternative plan at an offsite location so we could still celebrate the bride in a unique and meaningful way. Unfortunately, the event was later cancelled by me due to low registration, but throughout the entire process Aliyssa was professional, kind, and incredibly understanding. She truly cares about her clients and puts so much thought and effort into making their vision come to life. I only wish I lived closer so I could enjoy all of her amazing classes and events on a regular basis. Her offerings and her customer service are unmatched — I highly recommend Create Art Studio to anyone looking for a creative, welcoming, and well-run space!

I booked a date to do the paint and sip and there was an issue with the date and time that I originally chose. Frequently asked questions about painting classes in Indianapolis

What types of painting classes are typically offered in Indianapolis?

Painting classes in Indianapolis offer a wide array of options to suit different skill levels and artistic interests. You’ll often find classes focused on acrylics, oils, and watercolors, ranging from beginner-friendly introductions to more advanced techniques like impasto or palette knife painting. Some studios specialize in specific styles, such as landscape painting or abstract art, while others offer themed classes – like creating floral paintings or holiday-inspired artwork. Regularly check with local studios for their current offerings.

How much do painting classes typically cost?

The cost of painting classes in Indianapolis can vary considerably depending on several factors. Drop-in classes, which require no prior commitment, generally range from around $20 to $40 per session. Longer courses, such as a six-week series, will typically cost between $150 and $300. Some studios offer monthly memberships with unlimited access for a higher monthly fee. Consider your budget and desired commitment when exploring options.

What materials do I need to purchase for a beginner’s painting class?

For many beginner painting classes, the materials are provided. However, it’s advisable to ask the studio beforehand to confirm what’s included. Typically, you may need to purchase your own brushes, palette, palette knives, and canvas. Some studios offer package deals that include essential supplies, but it's always best to inquire about the specific requirements for the class you are interested in. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations on quality art supplies.

Do I need any prior painting experience to join a class?

Most painting classes in Indianapolis are designed to be beginner-friendly, and many do not require any prior painting experience. However, some more specialized classes – such as those focusing on advanced techniques – may assume a basic understanding of painting principles. It's perfectly acceptable to join a class even if you’ve never picked up a brush before. Many instructors offer helpful guidance and support to students of all levels.

What is the typical class size?

Class sizes in Indianapolis vary depending on the studio and the type of class. Smaller, more intimate classes with an instructor-to-student ratio of 1:3 or 1:4 are common for personalized instruction. Larger classes, typically with 6-10 students, are often offered for a more social and group-oriented experience. Consider what kind of learning environment you prefer when selecting a class.

Where are the painting classes located in Indianapolis?

Painting classes are available throughout Indianapolis, with studios clustered primarily in areas like Broad Ripple, Fountain Square, and the Downtown Arts District. You’ll also find options in surrounding suburbs like Carmel and Fishers. Check studio websites and local directories for a detailed list of locations and class schedules. Transportation options, such as parking availability, should also be considered.

What kind of instruction do the instructors provide?

The level of instruction provided by instructors varies depending on the studio and the class. Some instructors offer very hands-on guidance, leading students step-by-step through the painting process. Others provide a more demonstration-based approach, offering guidance and tips while allowing students to work independently. It's a good idea to inquire about the instructor’s teaching style and experience during the registration process. Some studios offer private lessons as an alternative.

Are there any painting classes specifically for children or teenagers?

Yes, many studios in Indianapolis offer painting classes specifically designed for children and teenagers. These classes often focus on developing basic art skills, fostering creativity, and encouraging self-expression. They often utilize simpler techniques and larger canvases to accommodate younger students. Check for age-appropriate classes and parental supervision requirements before enrolling your child.

What is the best way to find a painting class that suits my interests?

To find a painting class that suits your interests, start by researching local studios online and reviewing their class descriptions and instructor profiles. Many studios have websites or social media pages where they showcase their classes and student work. Consider what style of art you're most interested in, your preferred class format (e.g., drop-in, multi-week course), and your budget. Don’t hesitate to contact the studios directly to ask questions and discuss your needs.

What should I expect in terms of the studio environment?

The studio environment can greatly impact your painting experience. Many Indianapolis studios create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, encouraging creativity and experimentation. You can generally expect to find comfortable seating, ample workspace, well-lit areas, and a clean and organized environment.
