Do not recommend this hotel unless you are going to otherwise be sleeping out in the rain or you do not mind the smell of smoke and questionable figures lining the parking lot and lobbies at all hours of the day and night. I found it laughable that they charged me a $20 deposit and told me no smoking and you could tell the room had been very well smoked in and very little efforts had been taken to mitigate. I only give it two stars because they do allow up to 2 pets to stay free.
PS: I find it interesting all their five-star reviews are from accounts that have five or fewer total reviews and then often cases one or two. Interesting how a person could certainly be so motivated to go review a Motel 6. (Fakes)

Horrible experience! My husband stayed less than one night as it was too sketchy. He had booked 2 rooms. They would not let him cancel the rest of the nights. So now he isn’t even staying there but we are paying anyway until Aug 4th. He found another hotel because he did not want our kids staying there. Run from this place. They are thieves! We will be out over $1200 USD for two rooms but he still won’t stay there. That’s how nasty the hotel is.

No air conditioning in the room that was booked. No elevator to get to the second floor so if you need handicapped accommodation look elsewhere. Staff didn’t seem to care that the room was hot.

Worst hotel experience ever! Do not listen to the fake reviews! Place is super sketchy, gross and scary, looked at room and left because too scary with 2 daughters. Gave keys back and cancelled, but they refused to acknowledge the cancellation and charged me 2 rooms for five nights!
Do not reserve here!!! Worst motel I have ever seen!

“I had an incredible time at this hotel. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, from check-in to check-out. The room was spotless, beautifully decorated, and had a stunning view of the city. The breakfast buffet had a great selection, and the pool area was peaceful and well-maintained. Will definitely return!”

Oh man. Staying here was an interesting experience. I was traveling for work and didn’t know anything about Indianapolis beforehand so I booked the hotel blindly. This hotel is not in a good area. There were suspicious people sitting in their vehicle all day and night like they were casing the parking lot or dealing drugs. Even the front entrance had a sign posted that said “Customer parking – User assumes all risks”. Also, be aware the walls are very thin and you hear conversations, and in my case, very loud adult noises most nights between 10:00pm and 12:00am. I clearly heard the ladies arrive then leave a couple hours later so I assume they were on the clock. Definitely do not recommend staying here with kids. Unfortunately, my issues were not with the hotel itself but just the area. Overall the hotel was ok.

It was one of the cheaper hotels in the area. I believe you get what you pay for. The receptionists both days were very nice and helpful. The breakfast was your average hot breakfast, got the job done. Rooms were outdated but clean. The A/C worked well, as did the shower. It was in a less busy area close to the hospital. It was plenty quiet for sleeping. It’s only about 8 minutes from downtown, so traffic was light!

This is a 2 star hotel at best. It is located in an industrial area, so there is nothing convenient within walking distance. During check in the gentleman was busy on his cell phone. The hotel seemed a little run down, carpets were dark and well worn. The room was average at best, toilet slightly moved upon sitting on it. Everything worked adequately, but could use a refresh. The room carpet was basically disgusting. Wearing only socks, the bottoms were dirty, taking the socks off then walking 5 steps to the shower dirt and carpet fiber were being washed off my feet. Needless to say my shoes stayed on the rest of my stay. Breakfast was as basic as basic can be. Why on earth they charge an extra $10/day is beyond me. They certainly don’t put that scam of a charge toward any upkeep of the property. I was there for 2 days, doubtful I’ll be back.

Even though we checked in at 10pm, the ac in our room would not cool down. We set the temp to 60, but kept shutting off after a few seconds.
The room had an odd odor – 106. At first thought was a cleaning solution smell, but later changed my mind and thought more of a mildew type smell.
The breakfast was almost non existent. The little bit of eggs was hard from sitting out, the orange and apple juice lines had been crossed making each taste like the other.
We didn’t complain because it was so late, and we were too tired. Probably wouldn’t stay here again.

I was surprised. I wasn’t expecting much, but the staff was very friendly. The room was a bit aged, but most important, it was clean. I expected a continental breakfast and you offered a full breakfast. The food was good. I will stay there again and recommend it to others! Keep up the great work!

Every one of the staff was very welcoming. We thought we had found a quiet and affordable oasis in bustling Indy. We asked fro a quiet room and got one. So far so good. Then we went to the room. The floor lamp was precariously leaning over a very stained armchair, having come loose at the base. Of course I immediately checked for bed bugs. I saw none, but I did see threadbare sheets. The a/c unit was blessedly quiet, but the mini fridge had a 2 1/2 inch ice coating around the freezer. In the bathroom–are you ready?— the shower soap dish was hanging by a thread, the hand soap dispenser was gone, and there was no soap in the shower dispenser. I wanted to leave, but there was little available and nothing we could afford. We hunkered down and decided to check out the pool. The water was very cloudy–either from chemical imbalance or (horrible thought!) filth. Upon checkout, I discovered an $8 “hospitality fee” had been added to my bill–$16 plus tax for 2 nights. I asked what it was for, and the very friendly desk clerk said he didn’t know; the manager would know, but he wasn’t available. I paid the bill and fled!

The bed was comfortable we had a mini fridge and plenty of pillows on the bed. The room was clean. The staff was friendly and the complementary breakfast in the morning was delicious. They have a waffle maker that I thought was a really nice touch. The coffee was very good as well. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because the shower was kind of difficult to navigate on how to use and the temperature of the water was scolding or hot and it didn’t seem like it was easy to control the temperature. Other than that great stay especially for the price!

Room was clean. The TV didn’t have ABC channel and I don’t think it had CBS or NBC either. Desk chair was broken. I did seek help for the TV to no avail. The breakfast was fair BUT they were out of caffinated coffee. They did offer more single serve pods for the room but the brand was not great. We did get friendly service, especially from the young lady that was there at check in. The room was clean and the location good for our purposes.

The water didn’t get hot, u had to let it run for an hour before getting in to get lukewarm water and that was with it being turned all the way up to HOT! The comforter was torn up and I was told by employee that I couldn’t take my breakfast back to enjoy in the privacy of my own room. Yet, it wasn’t posted anywhere and why have a fridge and microwave in my room if I can’t eat in my room? It was pretty clean and the lady that checked me in was nice but my all over stay was not a good experience at all.

This facility is the best in the area. The hotel is clean. The bathtub was sparkling. The carpet feels good under your feet. The pillows & bed were A1.. which is super hard to find these days. If you aren’t at Sleep Inn, then where are you at! Come swim, relax, and get your grub on with the best breakfast. Bacon, eggs, waffles, bagels etc. Come get comfy. LASTLY, you cannot beat the price! Thank you for letting us Sleep Inn! We will be back!

Have stayed here each April for the past few years for a yearly trip and unfortunately this was not the best experience. First our room keys did not work at least 4 times during our two night stay had to make trips down to have them reprogrammed to the point they stopped working any someone just had to stay in the room. Upon going to the lobby multiple times I wasn’t the only one having door card issues. My other problem with this is they did not ask for any identification when reproraming these cards and I could have told them any room number and it appears they would have made a new key.
Our friends traveling with us had plaster from the ceiling fall on to their bed when we checked in. Staff was super helpful and friendly about trying to reprogram keys and got our friends a new room immediately.
Their breakfast is the morning was not as great as years past, hardly anything put out and the hot meals did not look appetizing this year. In the past they were great for the choice hotels brand of breakfast.
Lastly if you like cold showers this room is for you. To get just enough hot water needed you have to let the water run for at least 10 minutes.
Other things I saw were the elevators were out of inspection and some fire alarm pull stations were out of service which I thought was sketchy. This place was great a few years ago but unfortunately has gone downhill.

One of the worst hotel experiences I have had in a while. Smelled like smoke throughout the entire hotel, room had sticky flooring when we moved furniture around there was food cemented below both the chair and bed, front desk people were no help with vending machine mishaps nor general friendliness, the breakfast was sad to say the least, all of the bacon was a pile soggy and undercooked and every juice flavor was watered down. The best part of the place was the nice cleaning staff who picked up the cemented skittles after we moved the chair.

There’s a bit of a funny smell in the hotel, and a lady came by at 11:02am the morning I was supposed to check out, knocked on my door and told me that it was “time to check out.” I had never experienced this level of aggressive service before at any hotel I’ve ever stayed at. She was nice about it, but it still didn’t sit right with me.

We have stayed at this Comfort Inn three times in the past. And all three of those times were great, so when we were back in the area we chose to stay a fourth time. We were not so happy with this fourth time.|While the beds and bathroom appeared clean and staff was friendly and informative, there were tons of scuff marks and paint removed from the walls.|The walls are also very thin, so any time someone closes a room’s door near you, you hear it loudly. All of that I can cope with, but there was another factor that made me rate so low. |The biggest complaint I have is that we were put in a nonsmoking room, but upon entering the room it smelled like smoke, very strongly. In fact, when I came home and opened my bag, the smoke smell was still inside of it and on my clothing. I had to wash everything immediately upon returning home. I do not see how this could’ve been missed by anyone cleaning the room. We were definitely not put in a smoking room by mistake, as there was a non smoking sign on the door, but someone had very clearly smoked in there, and heavily. I ended up feeling very sick by the end of this trip, and we only stayed one night and were basically only in the room to sleep. ||My other 3 stays were lovely and I have no complaints about them, but next time we are in Indianapolis, I don’t think we will be staying here due to the most recent experience.

Decent hotel with updates. My only complaint is the amount of weed smoke. The first floor and second floor smelled like weed all night. I believe it was coming in my room from the bathroom vent and made me nauseous all night .

Hotel appeared clean to begin with, however, I woke up in the morning with a wet spot on me and after pulling the sheets back discovered a large area where the previous occupants had urinated. I was thoroughly disgusted and went to the front desk. They offered me new sheets and I told them I was checking out and obviously the mattress pad had not been changed when cleaned before I took occupancy. I was told by the front desk that they would speak with management and I would be called back to “see what they could do.” I was not contacted and it has been over a week. I will never stay here again. Obviously they do not properly clean the rooms and do not change the mattress pads.

Very outdated. Appreciate the last minute booking and super friendly front desk staff and it was surprisingly so quiet, but it was also very run down. The room smelled like cigarettes even though it was non smoking. Everything looked like someone had cleaned it but it didn’t feel clean. All surfaces felt sticky.

Horrible place to stay. There was a used towel on the floor, the a/c opeartion was questionable, it worked for about 5 minutes, then cut off, there was no phone in the room, there was no blanket on the bed, the sheets and pillow both had questionables stains on them. The parking absolutely sucked, and there were so many sketch people hanging out in the parking lot. There was no lid or plastic bag for the ice bucket. The door wouldn’t fully lock unless the “bar” at the top of the door was used, but there was a visible gap in the door allowing the noises from the parking lot and traffic to be heard. Without using foul language in thedescriptipn, there is absolutely no way I would ever stay here again, and I would never recommend it to anyone I like. This was and is a horrible place to stay. The vibe was the type of place you brought a streetwalker to, and some of the guests appeared to be just that. Super Nasty, Definitely a HARD PASS for any future stays. HOW IS THERE NO PHONE IN THE ROOM????? HOW DO YOU RENT A ROOM WOTH NO BLANKET ON THE BED AND QUESTIONABLE STAINS ON THE SHEETS AND PILLOW???? Make it make sense!! If I could leave a 0, I definitely would!!!

First room A/C was broken, got dubious look from front desk when I asked for a different room. New room had working A/C but that’s about the only thing going for it. Shoddy repairs, a pair of sheets as your bedding, pillows that are probably 10+ years old. Felt dirty just walking in.
And let’s not forget the $40 cash only deposit for a $55 room that’s not mentioned on the website or hotels.com and the hotel owned ATM with a 3.70 surcharge.
I’ll sleep in my vehicle before I stay here again.

Unreal how disgusting and creepy this place isn’t even remotely worth two $20 dollar bills
A better option would be to sleep in the car with the windows down on an unknown back alley
1-literally feces on the wall in multiple places
2-smelled like a dog rolled in poop
3-shower caked in scum with 3 used bars of soap
4-pee in a dirty toilet
5-A haunted house more comfortable atmosphere

Room, hotel service, and housekeeping were topnotch. Both bars/restaurants not so much. Downstairs restaurant for lunch was mediocre and there was no bartender so only a few beers and wine were the only option at a fully stocked bar. The rooftop bar has great views and wonderful cocktails, but no service at all. Once you order your drink at the bar and move outside, you’re on your own. No one checks on you. If you want another drink, you’ve got to go back inside to the bar. Missing out on revenue and tips. Dissappointing.

You’ve been warned! This hotel is perfect in every way except one… the noise. Apparently people here think they’re in the Indy 500 and street race into the wee hours along the roads next to the hotel. Or they’re DJs wanting to entertain downtown Indy with their car stereo all night. Good luck falling asleep. The hotel is beautiful though. My recommendation – stay at The Alexander down the street. Not quite as nice, but still quite nice and you’ll at least be able to sleep.

Hotel Indy, Indianapolis, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel is amazing. So I want to start off by saying Joel is the best! He is one of the front desk representatives and the reason we ended up at this hotel. I called to get information about the property before we decided where we were going to stay in Indianapolis and he had all of the answers❤️ We were coming down to celebrate my fiancé birthday and attend the Pacers Semi Finals Game and after speaking to him we chose here!! He was so bubbly and informative, I knew it would be an amazing stay. Upon arrival everything went so smooth. He made sure we were all checked in and even had a birthday surprise for my fiancé. He let us know where to visit and eat. I really appreciate Joel and will be staying at this property if I come back to Indianapolis, my fiancé birthday weekend was great with Joel’s support

Bed bugs. They have bed bugs. And the room literally smells like wet pee at a pool. They also did nothing other than offer an alternate room, when supposedly they were fully booked up when I checked in. Also, make sure you check your rates because there was supposed to be an 85$ a night fee, but only 2 nights were 85$. They jacked the prices up to 125$ a night for the other 2 nights. Reservation was made made back in March. Also outdoor pool is closed and way over grown. The GM was very unhelpful and didn’t even MAKE me change rooms. They offered the option, despite premise liability laws.
Do not recommend.

While I was at the hospital having a procedure done “someone” took it upon themselves to check out my room for some reason. I wasn’t back from the hospital 10 minutes when the front office girls showed up at my room telling me I had to leave! Confused – I asked why. Apparently the person who stopped in for a quick look ( I honestly don’t know what that was about!) said my room was filthy and I had trash everywhere and my dog pooped on the bed. As they could see no poop anywhere – trash in the trash bag in the kitchen – I had been separating laundry – which was on the floor. Sure a little messy yes – but not enough to panic over or tell lies on! The manager allowed me to stay that night but told me to leave in the morning!!
It’s sad to see them throw out a 63 yr old disabled senior because I’m “untidy”. Isn’t this discrimination?!!! I think so!!!!!

We booked in late May for a stay in early August. When I called to confirm our reservation, the clerk asked how soon I could “get there” as Priceline (the third party I booked with) had over booked and if I came after noon, I might not have a room.
The room itself was ok, nothing special, but had a kitchen (you have to ask for pans/plates/utensils), a separate living area, and a designated sleeping area. The shower only had the setting of pressure wash so be aware of that. We asked for extra towels and were told we had to turn in the used ones to be washed.
Overall this is an OK hotel. Its close to shopping (Costco), restaurants, and if you need something you forgot there’s a Walmart about a mile away.

Worst experience ever. Made a paid reservation and informed the hotel in advance about our late check in. However when we arrived, they made an excuse that we have run the NIGHT AUDIT and now we cannot check you in. Ridiculous! Their policy says we can check in anytime from 3pm to 10am next day. This is 5 days later and still no deposit. Never waited this long at any other hotel, called them up and they said I’d only get 88 dollars back because of some wifi I didn’t even use. I got to the hotel around 9 o’clock and went to sleep right away. Never again will I stay here

VERY invasive. We stayed a week and the owner came EVERY morning to “inspect” the room. He came INTO the room, even went into the bathroom every morning. I’ve NEVER experienced this during any stay anywhere else. Just very uncomfortable, honestly. Other than that, it was great. Aside from their guest dryer being broken, everything was very nice and clean. Quiet area, right next to a gas station. Oh, also, when I spoke to other guests who were staying, they ALL told me that the person was overcharging me SIGNIFICANTLY and that they paid MUCH less for their stay. I wasn’t pleased with that either.

As soon as he checked me in, he was knocking on the door. I was alone. He said he needed to walk through my room to make sure I was alone there. In my hotel room.. the next day I called my family in the am.and begged them to come back and pick me up. I was scared to death ..

Indy Lodge delivers a quiet, dependable stay with a clean room and friendly service. The location is convenient for quick commutes, and the staff are attentive without being overbearing. I appreciated the straightforward check-in, reliable Wi-Fi, and a bathroom that stayed well-maintained throughout the visit. For travelers seeking a modest, consistent option that won’t surprise you with hidden fees, this lodge offers solid value and a calm atmosphere.
Indy Lodge stands out for reliability and a comfortable vibe that makes business trips feel less transactional. The staff anticipate needs with thoughtful touches, from quick checkouts to tidy common areas, while the quiet rooms support focused work or restful evenings. Though not luxurious, the value is clear, as is the absence of unnecessary hassles. If you want a stress-free stay close to downtown, this lodge is a dependable choice.

I like the location to downtown not to far away, the gentleman Mike working the desk was very nice, polite and help me the room I wanted. But there still work to be done on the room. Still a good place for the night.

My spouse & I stayed here on a trip to Indianapolis for Irish Fest. The hotel is approximately 10 minutes drive time from the Fest’s beautiful Garfield Park location. Although I requested ground floor accommodation, we were booked on the second floor (no elevator.) At check-in, desk clerk observed the spouse’s limp and re-booked us a ground floor room. Pluses: Free parking. Room was pretty clean and beds were clean. WiFi worked well. Private restroom was very clean with adjustable hot & cold faucets. There was standard motel-size soap on the vanity counter and in the tub surround. Desk clerk was very helpful, bringing us extra towels, plugging in the TV and attempting to get the vanity light to work. The air conditioning worked very well. Black & White photos on walls were tasteful and interesting. Amenities included a hard-wired telephone. Negatives: Swimming pool was closed for repairs. Room furniture, carpet & plastic drapes were shabby. Vanity lacked a mirror, . Instead of the two cute bedside tables and lamps in the picture, our room had a single small dresser between the beds. At our request the helpful desk clerk brought a lamp, but there wasn’t an electrical outlet. There was no coffee maker in the room and no coffee seen or smelled in the public area either morning of our stay. The mini-refrigerator in our room froze our left-overs. There was one-fourth to one-third of a roll of TP in the bathroom. (I picked up a full roll from the front desk.) One of us slipped off the toilet (loose seat) twice. No plug for the bathtub. Bathroom fan sounded like a Mack truck idling. Had an interracial argument outside our motel room Friday night that lasted 45 minutes. Saturday night featured an all-white m-f foursome heatedly arguing. Spouse called front desk and was told security was handling it. We probably won’t be staying there again, but wonder how many of the negatives are attributable to the Covid-19 panic affecting travel-related revenue. We are monitoring our financial transaction to make they remove the $50 security deposit they added.

Terrible management, understaffed, uncomfortable atmosphere.
Turns out the hotel was overbooked and the guy at the front desk was scrambling to find a room. He also claimed that people had been checked out that weren’t supposed to be. In his defense, he did the best he could under the circumstances and was helpful. Finally, 20+ minutes and two occupied rooms later, we finally got our room. It was clean and we had no problems once we settled in. It’s also a 5 mile drive from the ICC which is convenient.
In spite of these, I would still run far away from this place. The overall management of the place was unacceptable, and the atmosphere was uncomfortable. There were people loitering, and we later found out there were people LIVING in the hotel that were most likely drug addicts. We came back one night to find a door propped open by someone we presumed to be an owner of the place. While the door was being watched, there’s no telling who he could have let in there.
I would advise not traveling here if you are with small children or by yourself (some of the clientele was questionable).
Will not be staying here again.

This hotel is a joke. Not only were there bed bugs, but cockroaches also. I had to make my kids wear shoes every time they got out of bed, if not their feet were completely disgusting. They changed the “rules” and the price every other day. There were two girls at the front desk that were helpful and that’s it. The air conditioning didn’t work. The shower water fluctuated, it was never the temperature you wanted. They pool had stuff floating in it. Point blank, the people “running” this hotel don’t know what they are doing and this place needs to be shut down.

Staff was very friendly and courteous. Rooms have a decent amount of space and microwave/fridge. Uncomfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom was not very clean. Shady neighborhood and people just hanging around outside. Want to emphasize that front desk staff was very nice and helpful.

I’ve stayed here once. They are known to have a lot of drugs and whatnot, but I went here with my boyfriend a while ago to have a night alone ( we were living with a lot of family at the time). The room was pretty nice and clean too. Cable and WiFi. We only had a room for one night, but you can also rent rooms with appliances (microwave, oven, fridge) if you plan to stay longer. It was $80 for one night in the standard room we were in. Not too bad of an experience for us.

These photos do not look anything like the real hotel. Called to reserve room got there on the day I was to check in and they told me I wasn’t in the system and they had no clean rooms. They took my name and phone number and said they would call when rooms were clean. They never called back which was good because I was not gonna return with my family. The place was grungy looking inside as well as outside. There was a guy in there that way trying to sell a couple a ring in the loby. The place had a weird smell. Seen a officer and asked how safe it was to have my family there and he stated it’s not. I will not return. I called to talk to a manager and was told there wasn’t one there and she don’t have a phone number for one. Just to let everyone know I had to rate with one star or I couldn’t post this. I do not want to rate it with a star but I want everyone to know.

More beggars than the nearest intersection and gas stations. Apparently if you stay here, you gotta help everyone else. Never been asked for money so damn much and I was only here for a weekend. And the roaches…hope they helped pay for the room. And forget sleeping. The crackheads will keep you awake.

Took my homeless disabled veteran uncle to get him in a safe place with his service dogs. He has doctors letters and registration. The lady in front office called her manager and was saying she needs to see them and call the doctors to verify. Continued to go on and on about how if they are legit shouldn’t have a problem with her verifying with the doctor. It was humiliating for him!

I wish I could give this place a minus. We had to climb out the window to get out the room. After we entered the room the door wouldn’t open from the inside. This place needs to be torn down. And they have the nerve to charge $100 a night.

I won’t lie. $300 a week for the cheap room. $50 deposit which you forfeit if you stay longer than 14 days. Thought it was a cheap way to go since I work all the time and can’t find a reason for an apartment or a house. ||||Cockroaches are bad. Even had mice in my room that I caught for a couple days. ||||I’ve attempted to get linens washed several times. Eventually just took them myself to wash them. ||||Wifi absolutely does not work||||People coming and going at all hours blasting music, or being loud because they’re bombed off meth, crack, or alcohol. So it’s impossible to sleep. If that doesn’t bother you then it’ll be the people coming and going blasting music in their clunker vehicles. Or the constant blare of police and fire department sirens. ||||Quite a few sex offenders residing here if you look the address up on the registry. Probably shouldn’t bring your kids. ||||Don’t screw yourself. I would shell out a little more $ for something better.

Staff was polite, however I literally was in this room less than a hour. Yes I stated I needed some space!!! But right after falling asleep I started to get bit! My key card didn’t work so yes I called and the staff came to let me in. I called her once I made it home and didn’t realize I was literally there 1 hour. My call log ⬇️⬇️⬇️ I was so itchy I literally left with no clothes afraid to take anything home, told staff I would bring remote back by check out.

Rooms aren’t that great. Literally got banned because I was driving 19MPH in the parking lot, which happened to startle the manager or whoever because she wasn’t paying attention to her surroundings (i.e. on her phone) and threw a complete fit over it. Nobody was in danger; completely unprofessional way to approach someone in that situation.

Catalog of services offered by hostels in Indianapolis
Regulatory compliance and licensing for hostel operations
A civil attorney can assist hostel operators with navigating regulatory compliance across federal, state, and local frameworks. This includes understanding licensing requirements, regular inspections, and reporting obligations. They help establish and maintain compliance programs, coordinate fire and life-safety standards, ensure ADA accessibility, and manage periodic compliance audits. By mapping applicable rules and keeping up with renewals and notices, the attorney reduces the risk of fines, closures, or reputational harm.
Contract drafting and review for property, vendors, and guests
The scope of contract drafting and review encompasses lease agreements with property owners, service and maintenance contracts, and guest-related terms such as cancellation policies and occupancy rules. A civil attorney ensures that terms and conditions are clear, enforceable, and balanced, with appropriate risk allocation among landlords, suppliers, and guests. They may also draft or review arbitration clauses, indemnification clauses, and termination provisions to protect the hostel’s interests.
Employment law for hostel staff
In a hostel setting, employment law issues include wage and hour compliance, payroll accuracy, and proper worker classifications. The attorney can help develop an employee handbook and robust workplace policies addressing safety, harassment, discipline, and accommodation needs. They provide guidance on employee vs. independent contractor determinations, onboarding practices, leave management, and compliance with state labor laws to minimize disputes and penalties.
Liability waivers, risk management, and insurance claims
Hostels carry premises liability and guest incident risk. A civil attorney can draft persuasive liability waivers where appropriate, design incident reporting protocols, and advise on claims handling with insurance carriers. They review insurance coverage limits, assess gaps in end-to-end risk management, and aid in timely, compliant responses to personal injury or property damage claims.
Guest disputes, neighborhood relations, and dispute resolution
When conflicts arise with guests, neighbors, or local authorities, civil attorneys can facilitate dispute resolution through mediation or alternative dispute resolution. They help document concerns, negotiate settlements, and pursue remedies through appropriate channels while ensuring alignment with local ordinances and zoning rules. These services support peaceful coexistence with the community and minimize disruption to operations.
Consumer protection and fair business practices
Compliance with consumer protection laws is essential for transparent pricing, refunds, and advertising. An attorney can assess potential false advertising, hidden fees, and disclosure requirements, helping establish clear refund policies and guest-rights communications. They also review booking platform disclosures and ensure that online listings comply with applicable truth-in-advertising standards.
Intellectual property and online presence
For hostel brands with websites and booking platforms, issues around intellectual property include trademark protection, logo usage, and domain management. The attorney can draft or review terms of service and privacy policy documents, advise on data protection and guest information handling, and manage licensing for images and content to protect the brand online.
Debt collection, vendor management, and financial compliance
Hostels may encounter outstanding receivables or supplier debts. Civil attorneys can support debt collection efforts, negotiate favorable credit terms, and oversee vendor negotiations to protect cash flow. They help ensure financial compliance with tax reporting, accounting standards, and hospitality-specific regulatory requirements, enabling smoother day-to-day operations and long-term planning.
Frequently asked questions about hostels in Indianapolis
What is a hostel and who uses them in Indianapolis?
Hostels provide budget-friendly lodging and are popular with budget travelers, backpackers, students, and solo explorers visiting Indianapolis. They typically offer dormitory-style rooms (often called shared dorms) with bunk beds and shelves, as well as private rooms for guests who want more privacy. Common spaces like kitchens, lounges, and dining areas encourage socializing and meeting other travelers. It’s important to review house rules and guest policies before booking.
Where are hostels located in Indianapolis and how close are they to major attractions?
Hostels in Indianapolis are concentrated in downtown areas and near major transit corridors, making it easy to access attractions such as White River State Park, Mass Ave, and the Center Township area. Proximity to buses and bike-share programs helps travelers move efficiently around the city. When choosing a location, consider what you plan to see: a hostel near the arts and entertainment district can be convenient for evenings, while another near the canal walk is ideal for daytime strolls. Always check your intended daily itinerary against the walking distance or transit time. A good location reduces transit costs and saves time for sightseeing.
What are typical rates for hostels in Indianapolis?
Rates vary by dorm versus private rooms, season, and bed type. In Indianapolis, you might expect dorm beds in the $20–$40 range per night, and private rooms ranging from $60–$120 per night. Some hostels offer special discounts for longer stays or students; taxes may apply at check-out. Many hostels include basic linens and a shared kitchen, while a few offer free breakfast or paid add-ons. It’s wise to compare total costs, including cleaning fees and lockers, when evaluating options.
What facilities do Indianapolis hostels typically offer?
Facilities commonly found include a fully equipped kitchen or communal cooking area, laundry facilities, free Wi-Fi, and lockers for valuables. Guest rooms may have air conditioning, heating, and comfortable bedding. Some hostels provide guest lounges, game nights, and city information desks to help plan your days. Accessibility varies; some properties offer elevator access or ground-floor rooms for guests with mobility needs. Always confirm the specific amenities list before booking.
Are private rooms available at hostels in Indianapolis?
Yes, many hostels in Indianapolis offer private rooms with either shared bathrooms or en-suite bathrooms. Private rooms are typically more expensive than dorms but provide greater privacy and a quieter environment for rest. The availability of bathroom configurations varies by property, so check the bathroom policy and whether towels are provided. If you are traveling with a group or family, some hostels may offer family rooms or multiple private rooms to accommodate everyone.
How safe are hostels in Indianapolis?
Safety and security are important considerations. Reputable hostels maintain secure entry with codes or staffed front desks, lockers for personal items, and 24-hour reception at some locations. Always carry a small lock for your locker and keep valuables out of sight. Read the guest policies and follow noise and behavior guidelines to ensure a safe stay. If you travel with valuables, plan ahead for insurance considerations or travel-friendly security measures.
How do I book a hostel in Indianapolis and what should I know about cancellation?
Booking usually happens through online platforms or direct hostel websites. Look for clear cancellation policies, including free cancellation windows if plans change. Be aware of any deposit requirements and the acceptable ID for check-in, such as a government-issued ID or passport. Check the age policy if you’re traveling as a group of minors or young adults, and confirm check-in times and payment methods. Reading recent guest reviews can provide practical insight into actual conditions and service quality.
What are the differences between a hostel and other budget lodging in Indianapolis?
Compared to hotels, hostels offer a more social environment and typically lower price points, though there can be trade-offs in privacy and amenities. Hostels focus on communal spaces, such as shared kitchens and lounge areas, which fosters interaction among travelers. Location can be a priority; hostels may be in busier areas with easy access to nightlife or cultural districts, whereas some hotels cluster around business districts. For families or travelers seeking consistent services, a traditional hotel may provide more predictable routines, but you might pay a premium. Always compare what each option includes, such as breakfast, parking, and late check-in.
How can I meet other travelers staying at hostels in Indianapolis?
To meet other travelers, use the hostel’s common spaces, join group activities, or participate in city tours offered by the property. Some hostels organize informal events like game nights, walking tours, or movie evenings, which can be a great way to connect. Observe shared space etiquette—keep common areas clean, respect others’ sleep, and avoid disruptive behavior. If you’re shy, start with a simple introduction or join a meal together in the kitchen. Remember to prioritize personal safety and meet people at your own pace.
What tips help travelers stay comfortable and respectful in hostels?
Helpful tips for a comfortable stay include packing light but practical, bringing a reliable lock for your locker, and using earplugs or a sleep mask if you’re in a dorm. Familiarize yourself with the local transit options, like buses or bike shares, to move efficiently around Indianapolis. Respect the waste and recycling rules and practice quiet hours to ensure a positive experience for everyone. Always verify the check-in and check-out times and keep a copy of your ID handy. Finally, explore beyond the hostel by visiting public parks, museums, and neighborhoods that highlight the city’s character and history.
