We have met with doctors who hurried us through the appt and then left the office while we were checking out. Dr McNulty takes his time with us and answers all of our questions. Indianapolis is very fortunate to have another Oak Street clinic on the Northside. This location is near 52nd and keystone. It provides excellent primary care. Patients are invited to come to the community room where they can watch TV and gather for other activities. There is always a snack and something to drink. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer, this clinic serves the community with comfort and care.

I phoned in for an appt because I was originally seen at the emergency room, I was told to see my primary care physician, after explaining everything I was put on hold only to be told at age 68 yrs. old that I would have to wait for a call back if someone didn’t come in. The only reason my family switched to Oak Street was they were told about the professional geriatrics care that I would receive. Here it is the first time and I can’t even rate a telephone call. We’re going to definitely be looking for better options.

My first visit was a welcome visit, and that’s just how I felt, welcome. The ladies at the front desk were very polite and patient. My next step was to talk to Nicholas, he did a patient assessment,
let me know what to expect by being a patient at Oak St., gave me lots of info about the clinic, he also gave me a folder to keep my medical information in, a medical travel bag. So thankful for the gifts. I was asked several times, while waiting if I needed anything, everyone was so very nice, which I truly appreciated, my last step was to talk to Dr. Ann Arno, she asked soooo many questions, but she needed to know my medical history. She informed me of all the steps it takes to get from here to there, and my goal of better health, didn’t like the fact that she gave me homework on my first visit, to check my blood pressure and chart it daily for the 3 weeks. My Oak St. Clinic experience was really great, l can’t wait for my husband to be a patient when he starts his Medicare Insurance.

Today was a horrible one for me with Oak Street Health. I usually have a really bad visit every 2-3 visits but this one today I have to talk about. I was scheduled for a pick up. The Lyft driver(whom no one told me was coming for me, I usually get a green Oak Street van), had a badly damaged vehicle, no Lyft sign, and, parked illegally across and up the street from my home. I had NO idea he was waiting for me, and he spoke very poor English. His GPS was out of wack, so we were riding around In circles as I attempted to help him, to which he became a bit frustrated. After I got him going the right direction, he still didn’t know where I was supposed to be dropped off, and I was almost broadsided by a vehicle from where I was sitting in the car as the driver attempted to try and figure out where I was to go and turn left at the same time. When I FINALLY arrived and told the reception desk what was had occurred, I was essentially brushed off. This has not been the first time this stuff has happened. The medical staff is usually friendly but I get LOADS of calls after I already set my regular appointment. A new year is coming up, I will be making some major changes!

I thought Oak Street was going to be a company of their word. My friend has had several problems with his appointments. Recording called to verify appointment and when he got to clinic no appointment noted. Upon leaving the clinic one time he asked for next appointment and paperwork for visit for that day, didn’t happen. To top it off today a same day appointment was needed for a angry red rash and was told by Triage nurse after giving her his information and the signs and symptoms she agreed he needed to be seen today and she would return call in 30 minutes. Waited over 45 minutes still no reply so I called back to clinic to be told no Triage nurse by that name was there and nothing noted for his signs and symptoms under his name. WHAT OR YOU SERIOUS? Asked to speak to supervisor. Got transferred to supervisor at the facility of course apologetic but where is appointment for same day? I was then told even if complaint filed 48 hours turn around for call back. ARE YOU SERIOUS ? He is a heart patient of course no chest pain but we could have went to URGENT CARE facility if we knew we would be put off. I told him about the facility and all they had said they could offer so I’m feeling responsible somewhat because one disappointment after another regardless of apology still happening. After all the problems he has had with appointments and the frustration today of sitting and waiting and him being in discomfort and can’t see his doctor today. WOW UNBELIEVABLE. This clinic was not far from where he lives but I am glad that I didn’t change doctor’s myself.

Went for the first visit tell Dr Jason about the pain I was in that I have been in for years which keeps me awake call then several times after the first visit trying to get some kind of relief for the muscle cramps still nothing never even got called back went in for the second visit told him again about the pain was completely ignored call them again then he finally called me back and was rather rude and flat out told me when I told him I was not hunting narcotics I was thinking relief from the muscle cramps which are very severe 24/7 so that I can get some sleep and he flat out said it’s not going to be me I thought doctors were here to help people apparently this clinic is a a joke like the rest just wanted to get rich off of Medicare and Medicaid no longer from me will that happen I need a doctor and I need treatment but because of this happening I’ve given up on it completely I seen they was wanting to get intouch just to lie more this place is a joke and their Comercial is false advertising 24-7 dr availability what a all they want is money

Michelle Bliley (my doctor) is cool I like her a lot actually but the front desk chick absolutely despises work lmao. Every time I call (twice or thrice every 2/3 months) she’s rude or pissed off. She gets mad when you ask her to do her job I swear I had to call 3 times today to get my prescription refilled because she kept hanging up hahahah. get somebody that likes money because she hates it and doesn’t really want it anymore.

I wish I could give her office a zero!! She has the most unprofessional, ghetto, no empathy having staff ever!!! My mother Us sick and has been waiting for the Dr to call back all day. My mother calls the office since they will be closing soon, only to be met with a dumb azz that I described above! On top of it all, my mother still was not able to get an answer regarding her medicine! But, I guess the tail doesn’t do any better than the head! I do not recommend this office at all!!!

Best experience I’ve had at a doctor’s office. The staff was friendly and great at answering questions. Dr. Williams was kind, reassured me, and listened to what was wrong. I didn’t just feel like a symptom, but an actual person she was talking to. Very welcoming.

Honestly I have never encountered such a rude professional before in my life. Today was my first time at her office as a new patient and she was very rude, arrogant, and judgmental. I was honestly appauled because her medical staff was very kind and personable. I met with Dr. Williams for all of 5-10 minutes. She didn’t even greet me when she walked in or simply asked how I was doing. She talked down to me as if I was incompetent and she started asking me about my personal life in regards to school. Then when I told her about school she was very judgemental and disrespectful. She barely did a physical exam, and barely addressed my health issues that I was concerned about. She was very dismissive and just walked out of the door. I didn’t even realize the appointment was over. If you plan on going to her save your time and your money.

Dr. Williams is a good doctor.. Her staff is completely unprofessional. It’s very rare that you can get a phone call answered and every month I struggle getting my regular monthly prescriptions called in. I have been with Dr. Williams for 8 months now and I will not be returning. Dr. Williams needs better staff in the front office. I don’t know how anyone under this care is satisfied. Don’t waste your time!

Dr. Williams is a great doctor. For more than 15 years, she has provided excellent care for me. Friends and acquaintances to whom I have suggested Dr. Williams seem to have the same appreciation as I do for her care and excellent medica advice.

    Guardianship and Conservatorship Proceedings

A civil attorney with a focus on elder law can illuminate the path through guardianship and conservatorship proceedings in Indianapolis, guiding capacity assessments and ensuring the ward’s rights are protected during petition filing, notice, and court hearings. Capacity evaluations are coordinated with medical professionals to determine the appropriate level of guardianship, and the attorney explains options to family members, aiming for the least restrictive arrangement whenever possible. When guardians are appointed, a skilled attorney helps prepare and file the necessary reports, including annual guardianship accounts and care plans that satisfy court requirements. Alternatives to guardianship, such as a durable power of attorney or supported decision-making arrangements, are discussed to preserve autonomy where feasible. The role extends to monitoring compliance with court orders, addressing conflicts among relatives, and assisting with modification or termination if circumstances change. Throughout, the focus remains on due process, transparency, and safeguarding privacy and dignity while balancing safety needs.

Advance Directives, Power of Attorney, and Medical Consent

A civil attorney can interpret and prepare advance directives and related documents for seniors in Indianapolis, including durable power of attorney and healthcare proxy, to designate decision-makers when capacity is limited. The process includes outlining the scope of authority, durations, and any limitations, as well as ensuring that living will preferences are clear and legally valid. HIPAA releases facilitate access to medical information for chosen agents, and capacity concerns are addressed to determine the appropriate time to execute documents. Agent selection should emphasize trust, communication, and contingency plans, with clear avenues for revocation or amendment if circumstances change. These services emphasize coordination with healthcare providers, family members, and facilities to avoid conflicting directions and to promote care aligned with the senior’s values.

Estate Planning and Wealth Preservation for Seniors

Within the scope of elder law, estate planning and wealth preservation for seniors in Indianapolis involve will drafting and trust creation to align assets with long-term goals. Trust administration ensures proper management and eventual distribution in accordance with the document terms, while considerations of asset protection and Medicaid planning help preserve resources within legal boundaries. Strategies may include probate avoidance techniques, filial relief planning, and structured gifting where appropriate. The focus is on clarity of intent, tax implications, and ongoing stewardship to minimize contest risks and to provide for spouses, heirs, or charitable objectives over time.

Elder Financial Exploitation and Abuse Prevention

Addressing elder financial exploitation and abuse requires vigilant civil action and protective measures. A civil attorney in Indianapolis can identify suspicious transactions, advise on protective orders, and coordinate with law enforcement and investigators when appropriate. Civil remedies may include restitution, asset freezes, and injunctive relief to prevent further harm. In addition, advocacy for guardianship or conservatorship modifications can accompany investigations when financial wrongdoing intersects with capacity concerns. The overarching aim is to safeguard vulnerable adults, provide accountability, and establish robust mechanisms for reporting and remedy while preserving the senior’s safety and dignity.

Long-Term Care Facility Rights and Resident Advocacy

In matters involving long-term care facilities, civil counsel can review facility contracts and admission agreements to clarify obligations and protections. Understanding resident rights under applicable state and federal laws helps clinicians, administrators, and families navigate care decisions. Services include guidance on discharge planning, grievance procedures, and dispute resolution, including arbitration when permitted. Attorneys collaborate with ombudsman programs, social workers, and care teams to resolve concerns about safety, privacy, and quality of care, always prioritizing the senior’s best interests and ensuring responses to complaints are timely and effective.

Probate, Trust Administration, and Beneficiary Disputes

The probate process and trust administration are core areas where civil attorneys support seniors and their families in Indianapolis. This includes interpreting ambiguous terms, identifying fiduciary duties, and managing inventories, debts, and distributions. When disagreements arise among beneficiaries, beneficiary disputes and will contests may be addressed through negotiation, mediation, or litigation as appropriate. The attorney’s role encompasses safeguarding the integrity of the estate plan, ensuring proper notice to heirs, and guiding executors and trustees through accurate accounting and timely settlement in compliance with governing law.

Medical Billing Disputes, Insurance Appeals, and Benefit Appeals

Financial clarity is essential for seniors navigating healthcare costs. Civil counsel can tackle medical billing disputes, help with insurance appeals, and oversee benefit determinations related to Medicare and Medicaid coverage. Guidance may extend to long-term care insurance claims and other health benefit programs, including the appeals process for denials or underpayments. The focus is on documenting eligibility, submitting the necessary evidence, and communicating with insurers, facilities, and providers to seek fair reimbursement while reducing financial stress for the senior and family members.

Disability Rights, Housing Accessibility, and Public Benefits Access

Protecting disability rights and ensuring housing accessibility are central to elderly advocacy. Civil attorneys review compliance with the Fair Housing Act and ADA standards, pursue reasonable accommodations, and assist with modifications to facilitate safe living environments. Support for accessing SSI/SSDI benefits and other public benefits includes enrollment guidance, eligibility determinations, and appeals when necessary. The aim is to enhance independence, remove barriers to community living, and secure stable access to essential support services for eligible seniors and their families.

Frequently asked questions about geriatric doctors in Indianapolis

What is geriatrics and what does a geriatric doctor do?

Geriatrics is a medical specialty focused on older adults and their unique health needs. A geriatric doctor uses a multidimensional approach to assess medical, functional, cognitive, emotional, and social factors. They look beyond single diseases and consider functional status, frailty, and quality of life when designing care. A typical visit includes a comprehensive assessment, a thorough medication review to address polypharmacy, and a plan that covers preventive care, safety, and caregiver support. The goal is to create a personalized care plan that aligns with the patient’s goals, living situation, and available resources. They coordinate with other specialists when needed to optimize outcomes.

Why see a geriatric doctor in Indianapolis?

Choosing a local geriatric doctor in Indianapolis can improve access to local resources, including home health services, senior centers, and hospital affiliations. Geriatric doctors in the area are familiar with the Indianapolis healthcare system and can navigate community supports effectively. They focus on age-related conditions such as frailty, memory changes, mobility issues, and chronic diseases common in the region. Regular visits can help maintain independence, manage medications safely, and coordinate care with family and other providers. For many seniors, this local expertise translates into better communication and faster access to services when needed.

How to find a reputable geriatric doctor in Indianapolis?

Start with referrals from trusted sources such as your primary care physician, family, or friends who know the local options. Look for board-certified physicians in geriatrics or internal medicine with a track record in geriatric care. Check hospital affiliations and participation in continuing education and quality programs. Read patient reviews and ask about communication style and response times during the initial consultation. A good fit often includes alignment on goals, care coordination, and a plan that works for your schedule and preferences.

What to expect during a geriatric assessment visit?

A geriatric assessment is typically a multidimensional evaluation that looks at medical history, medications, functional status, cognition, mood, nutrition, and social support. The clinician conducts a functional assessment that may include balance, gait, and activities of daily living. A cognitive screening can be performed to identify memory changes or conditions such as dementia. Your home safety and fall risk are considered, along with environmental and caregiver factors. The result is a comprehensive care plan that outlines tests, follow-up visits, and goals for improving well-being.

What kinds of services do geriatric doctors provide?

Geriatric doctors manage chronic diseases with an emphasis on prevention and quality of life. They offer dementia care, delirium prevention, and palliative care planning when appropriate. Nutritional guidance, physical activity recommendations, and home safety assessments are common elements. They coordinate medication reconciliation to minimize drug interactions and adverse effects. In some practices they work with rehabilitation services, social workers, and caregiver support resources to form a comprehensive plan.

How do geriatric doctors coordinate care with specialists and caregivers?

Geriatric care is built on care coordination and a team approach that includes the patient, family, and healthcare providers. They share medical information with specialists, primary care physicians, pharmacists, and social workers to ensure everyone is informed. The goal is shared decision making that respects patient preferences and safety. Regular updates, clear care plans, and timely referrals help avoid duplicative tests and conflicting advice. Good communication with caregivers is essential to support adherence and monitor changes over time.

When to consider home visits or telemedicine?

For patients with limited mobility, transportation challenges, or safety concerns at home, home visits from a geriatric clinician can be very helpful. Telemedicine can provide convenient follow-ups, medication reviews, and caregiver discussions while reducing travel strain. Both options enhance access to care, especially during bad weather or illnesses that make clinic visits difficult. Discuss availability with your chosen geriatric doctor to determine what is offered in Indianapolis and what best fits your needs. These services support ongoing monitoring and timely adjustments to care plans.

What are typical costs or insurance coverage for geriatrics in Indianapolis?

Many seniors benefit from coverage through Medicare and, when eligible, Medicaid programs or supplemental plans. Private insurance may cover geriatric evaluations, care management, and follow-up visits, though coverage varies by plan. Costs can differ based on whether the visit is in-person or via telemedicine, and whether additional services such as home visits are included. When researching options, ask about cost transparency, bundled services, and any copays or coinsurance. A knowledgeable office staff member can explain what is covered and outline reasonable expectations for out-of-pocket expenses.

How to prepare for appointments and manage medications?

Prepare by compiling a current medication list with names, doses, frequencies, and pharmacy information. Bring any recent test results, imaging, and a summary of functional concerns, such as memory or mobility issues. If possible, bring a family member or caregiver to help describe changes and questions. During visits, expect a medication reconciliation to identify drug interactions or duplications and to adjust prescriptions as needed. Clear questions about goals, safety, and daily routines help ensure the visit is productive.

How to evaluate a geriatric doctor and ensure a good fit?

Consider how well the doctor listens and explains conditions and options in plain language. Look for a physician who respects patient autonomy and supports shared decision making. Evaluate communication and whether they provide timely follow-up and easy access for questions. Ask about the care team and who is responsible for coordinating services. A good fit also means compatibility with family members and caregivers, and a plan that feels realistic and compassionate.
