Jorge

This gym is absolutely amazing. I’ve trained at many gyms both overseas and across the U.S., and this one truly stands out. The environment pushes you to be better because people actually come here to work out—not sit around or camp on equipment. The energy is motivating and focused. William, Derek, Jordan, Nate, and the rest of the staff are incredible. They genuinely greet you, make you feel welcome, and treat you like family from day one. If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would.

Great gym with a clean atmosphere and well-maintained equipment. The staff is friendly, and the trainers are helpful and motivating. It’s a comfortable place to work out with plenty of space and a positive vibe. Perfect for staying consistent with fitness goals. Highly recommended for anyone looking to get fit.

This is the best gym I have worked out at in a very long time. Excellent equipment, good music (for a change), and Landan and the entire staff are top notch, very welcoming. If I lived within an hour of this gym (I’m from Florida) I would be a member here.

American Muscle & Fitness gym is amazing. It’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. AMF is never crowded and you’re not forced to wait on equipment because it is so big and they have so much fitness equipment. Any exercise or machine you want to use is readily available. The gym is always clean, Derek and the staff very kind and always engaging. The other gym members are polite and willing to help you. AMF Is conveniently located on the south side just north of Greenwood. If you live in another part of the city, it is well worth the drive. Regardless of your age or fitness level, AMF is a great choice.

I travel weekly for a living and have been to many different gyms across the country. This is easily one of my favorites. The atmosphere is incredible, staff is friendly and helpful, passes are very reasonably priced. But the icing on the cake is the excellent store they have attached, in which they sell supplements and terrific prepped meals. Very convenient, especially for a traveler trying to stay on top of their nutrition. This is the only gym I will attend when I’m working in Indianapolis. Highly recommend.

Awesome gym, went & signed up today & they are great people & great equipment lots of great stuff & extras! My favorite part tho is the 24/7 access for the members, even when staff isn’t there you can still go!!! Even on holidays which is just unbelievable, & the atmosphere just makes you wanna get healthier, overall 1000000/10 I highly recommend this gym to any & everyone no matter your goal!

I really enjoyed going to this gym, and I went there for 2+ years but decided to cancel because of the price. I wouldn’t say that alone would make it deserving of a 1/5 star rating but they charged me $30 just to cancel the membership although I wasn’t on a contract. What an absolute slap in the face and scummy business practice, they should be ashamed of themselves.

I have been a member for about a year and a half – before I joined I didn’t think I would ever run again not only can I run a mile under 10 minutes now but I’m stronger than I’ve been since high school and I just turned 40! The coaches are great about working with a range of abilities – I feel challenged but not intimidated! I highly recommend you give this location and orange theory a try!

I joined OT Downtown Indy when there was a flood in the gym in my building. I figured it wold be a brief maybe 2mth commitment until my gym was renovated. I’ve been a member of tons of gyms in my life. I have never experienced an environment like this one though. Not only is every single member of the staff incredibly welcoming and helpful, the coaches are all insanely supportive and encouraging. I was recently traveling and I went to a couple OT’s out of state. I was SO HAPPY to come back to this one! Compared to the others it was like night and day. This one is SO spacious. And bright. And impeccably maintained. I can’t say enough good things about this location:) Needless to say, even though the gym in my building has been open for months, I couldn’t imagine OT not being a part of my day anymore. It has breathed new life into my working out, and I’ve met some really awesome people!

I came back from being gone for almost 2 years and the staff welcome me back and have been super helpful! Today was a relay and it was hard but it helps me disconnect from work (I work in education & operations) right now it’s the BUSIEST season and it’s helpful to just come in do my workout and feel great!

Five star staff and facility, two star 2025 schedule. I strongly feel that strength 50 is a hidden gem of OTF. I do enjoy the 2G classic format; however, after being able to attend strength 50 for about a year and half I believe these classes are what really improved my physique and gave me new confidence around weight training I never had before. They allowed me to lift weight in a class setting and with a coach – which for me was much more comfortable than going to a gym and trying to figure out a training program for myself or finding a personal trainer. I was able to find a balance of strength 50 and 2G classes that really worked for me and made me feel my best and unfortunately, coming into 2025 60% of my class schedule was eliminated with the removal of 8PM evening classes (and the Saturday 90 minute which I loved). I 100% respect and understand the impact these changes have on me are not the same for everyone but it was and remains to be a huge disappointment that there is not any emphasis on strength 50. The only other times to take strength (and tread 50) are at 10:45AM Mon-Fri which due to work I can’t attend. If I’m lucky, on occasional Fridays I may be able to squeeze in the 3:10PM lower body, and sometimes the Saturday 11:20AM total body. I do still enjoy OTF, and will continue to attend the 2G class formats for the time being but, considering I can look up the strength 50 class templates on Reddit (and because the amazing coaching staff DT gave me confidence to lift heavy) it’s not an impossibility that in the future I could see myself canceling my membership and chance it on my own at the YMCA. Again, I love the community and I love the staff. Honestly, out of other OTF studios I’ve been to we are so, so spoiled to have natural light, up to date equipment, and treads in front of windows! Perhaps in the future ownership might consider evaluating the studio schedule as a whole and provide more dynamic options rather than just simply cutting the classes that are least attended.

Jared Beyer

Love this spot! I’ve visited 20 or so CrossFit gyms around the world now, easily in the top 5, which is dope to say about my hometown Indy!! Matt and Lindsey were incredibly welcoming, personable and fun to talk to, even though I only dropped in for a few days of open gym. Dog friendly, Whiskey is adorable (pictured twice, I had more haha). This space is huge, and even better, it’s wide open for activities. They have everything, including ski ergs, assault runners, sand bags, ghds and a TON of gymnastic rings…some gyms have like one set lol. I think there were like 10. Oh, and 3 SPEAL pull-up bars! Everyone knows they’re the best haha. Anyway, this place is awesome. Jazmin the manager was so helpful getting me set up, so were the coaches, even with a class going on. Patrons are super friendly. Love it, super cool to see something like this 3 minutes down the road from where I grew up.

For pregnant mamas & mamas in postpartum, when that season of life gets really hard, this community is there for you! All the coaches at Dogfight know how to modify workouts for you whether you are pregnant or in postpartum. I even worked out with my baby in the baby carrier tons of times. They truly want to make sure you & your baby are safe while getting a good workout in! All you do is show up & the workout is already ready for you. The coaches guide you along the way! This isn’t just a gym. It truly becomes another support system & family. When becoming a mom, it truly is worth the investment in joining the DogFight Community!

I’ve done CrossFit on and off for six years and I’ve been to several different gyms. The coaches here are amazing; they’ve helped me make progress and feel confident with both Olympic lifts and gymnastics movements. I appreciate that there is so much time warming up for the movements and mobility programmed into the day as well. My goal is to stay strong, mobile and moving well for a long time and Dog Fight will definitely help me to get there.

It took me a while to find the right gym after moving out of state, but I knew Myriad was the perfect fit after my first day. The coaches are amazing and the community is incredibly supportive. The combo of having CrossFit + access to yoga in the same membership is such a perk, but it’s the amazing coaches and teachers that keep me coming back every week! I’ve been a member for 10+ years, although they only convinced me to start CrossFit in 2025 🙃. All I can say is I wish I would have started CrossFit sooner and am consistently surprised by the strength I’ve built in only a year of training.

When I tell people I’ve started Crossfit, I often get concerned looks. They fear that I’m about to have my body and soul crushed by intense, unrelenting workouts. But Myriad doesn’t do that! They use a Level method and every session has workouts designed to meet you at the level you’re at. The staff are experienced and caring. I feel like I’m in good hands

Would strongly recommend joining! I did the Myriad 6 Week HYROX Training Series and also ran the HYROX Simulation race. Jared, Marta, Shane, and the whole team make it a very inviting community. I appreciated the intentionality they put into programming the 6 weeks to help prepare me for the simulation race. I plan to run an official HYROX event, and what I learned in their class and sim race (rules, technique for each of the 8 stations, what you’re penalized on, etc.) will go a long way.

I’ve done crossfit for about 6 years and loved my first gym but it ended up closing. It took a second to find a gym that I loved and has coaches who actually coach and help me improve my form. I knew during my first class I had picked the rigth gym, I felt like I was coached more in that one class than I had been over the last year at a different gym.

All I can say is, WOW. I have memberships to Lifetime, 24hr, Anytime, Planet, LA, YMCA, and have worked out at tons of local gyms, and this is by far my favorite. Tons of high end equipment, platforms, racks, etc, with no crowd. I couldn’t get into Anytime down the street because it’s in a secure building and not staffed, so I went here instead and purchased a day pass. Really glad I did. Very easy process, and opened the door using the app in less than a minute. The selection and abundance of open equipment here is unparalleled. Phenomenal gym. I’ll absolutely be back!

This is the best gym in Indy. 24 hour access is essential for me, as my work hours are unconventional. The space is always unbelievably clean and organized and the equipment is top tier. There are so many unique machines and attachments. This is a gym designed for every type of lifter or gym goer. The owner is constantly making improvements to the facility (sauna, showers, new equipment). The staff is also incredibly friendly and helpful. No one should sleep on this gym. If you are intimidated by any part of it, don’t be. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and supportive of anyone who is looking to better themselves.

I was just visiting Indianapolis for the weekend so I decided to do a day pass here BEST decision I could have ever made As an online fitness coach, this gym had everything I could possibly wish for. The gym is divided into 2 «sections» where one side is a little more machine/cardio (great for bodybuilding) focused & the other is where your free weights are (good for strength & powerlifting) My favorite part was the Arsenal equipment they had which felt absolutely fantastic to use (first gym I’ve seen in the Midwest with a Pendulum Squat) Overall, I really enjoyed my workout here. Also, thank you to Austin in the front who was super nice & hospitable

Morgan at Indy City Barbell is the real deal. Super knowledgeable, motivating, and somehow makes lifting heavy things fun. He knows how to connect with clients and keeps pushing you without being pushy. The gym itself? Awesome. Great equipment, super clean, and full of the nicest (and strongest) folks you’ll meet. Zero ego, zero intimidation—just good vibes and hard work. I’m already seeing progress and actually look forward to workouts now. Can’t wait to continue this journey at ICB.

I’ve worked out at and been a member of gyms all over the country and this is hands down the best gym I’ve signed up at. The equipment is amazing, the staff is great, and the overall energy in this place is awesome. Zero ego, all hustle and hard work in this place. I’ve been training for months now with Morgan May, who’s the training director of the facility and it’s been life changing. Super reliable trainer who pushes you to be better. He knows how to connect with clients, and the results of his clients show his true knowledge and passion for his craft. Honestly the entire staff seems to be this way. The Membership and one on one training is worth every penny spent. I’d recommend anyone in the Indy area or passing through to sign up or give this place a serious look!

I’ve been training with Morgan at Indy City Barbell for the past 4 years, and I can’t recommend him enough. Morgan is not only incredibly knowledgeable about powerlifting, but also knows how to tailor programming to fit individual needs and goals. When I first started, I never imagined I’d make this much progress but Morgan’s coaching has pushed me further than I thought possible. If you’re looking for a trainer who genuinely cares about your growth, understands the sport inside and out, and creates a supportive training environment, Morgan is the one. Indy City Barbell as a whole has a great community, but Morgan has been the driving force behind my progress.

Greatest. Gym. In. Gods. Green. Earth. I have been going for years now and not only has the equipment improved but so has my mental and physical health. From the great leadership of the owner, to the amazing hands on and friendly staff, even the members of every walk of life are super helpful and supportive. Never seen gym culture so intense and yet not even remotely toxic. No egos, just determination and a unified mindset to live healthier lives. My trainer Morgan, who came highly recommended by Naz (trainer) has an amazing approach to physical fitness that has pushed my limits and afforded me great results without punishing my pockets. Looking to get in shape? Go here.

24hr access, equipment for every muscle group, plus any specialty bar you can imagine. Staff is very knowledgeable and willing to help. Big enough to make new friends in the busy hours and small enough to have the place practically to yourself at times. Inbody machine and Sauna available upon request and Chelsea partners with the gym and does great massage work. Definitely the place in Indianapolis for people serious about their health and fitness.

Nice gym lots of good equipment. If you need help with training for your sport it’s a 5 star. People are nice and friendly. Not too crowded. Open 24 hours to members. If you’re looking for a plush gym this isn’t it. Strictly a workout gym. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great place. Wide variety of athletes there. Not just weightlifters and bodybuilders. You can get a day pass for 15 bucks. Give it a try. Just a few pics because inside a gym. It is connected to Bells of Steel showroom. Look for the emblem on the front of the building.

From the very first visit, the experience at this gym felt off. I wasn’t asked any questions about my goals, my experience, or what I was looking for. I was simply walked around with zero engagement, which already felt unwelcoming and impersonal. Unfortunately, it didn’t get better. The owner was extremely rude during a later interaction, and that experience stuck with me. It was so uncomfortable that I now feel genuine anxiety even attempting to go back. A gym should feel supportive, professional, and safe—not dismissive or intimidating. First impressions matter, and leadership matters even more. Between the lack of engagement and the owner’s behavior, this is not a place I would recommend.

I’ve been a member at West Indy Barbell and Sports Performance for a few months, and it’s been an amazing experience for staying in shape! The gym has everything you need for a well-rounded fitness routine—top-quality cardio machines, weights, and functional training equipment. The space is always clean, bright, and welcoming, making it easy to stay motivated. The staff is fantastic—super friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to offer tips or help with form, no matter your fitness level. Andrew, the owner, fosters such a positive, inclusive vibe that makes everyone feel comfortable, from beginners like me to more experienced folks. I love the variety of workout options and the 24/7 access, which fits perfectly with my hectic schedule. The community here is so supportive, and there’s no pressure or intimidation—just encouragement to keep pushing toward your goals. I started coming to West Indy Barbell back in 2023 after getting my first exposure to a powerlifting/bodybuilding gym in Baltimore, MD. I really enjoy coming in regularly with how kind and friendly the staff are. They are constantly adding/rotating amenities and equipment which always helps with the fatigue of doing similar exercises/routines frequently. Also, getting to walk into some of the local meets that they hose has been very helpful with overcoming fear of competing one day. Highly recommend coming in even if you are just passing through.

BR Fit club is just amazing. Everyone around here – from the staff to the members – are super warm and encouraging. The workouts can be tough (in a good way) and everyone around is so supportive and the coaches are really accommodating of your skill level. I have to modify almost everything I do because I’m a little old, kind of overweight (for now), and not what one would call an «athlete.» But I’m doing great. If you come, you’ll see a wide array of ages, gender, body shapes, and fitness levels represented in any class. So in that way it really feels like a place for everyone. I mean, they give you 3 free classes to see for yourself, so it’s worth a look. If you’re looking for a cross fit gym that isn’t what you might have heard about a cross fit gym, this could just be the place for you.

I joined Broad Ripple Fit Club after dabbling into CrossFit for a few years. I have been to several other local CrossFit gyms in the area and this is by far the most fun group I have been around. Whether you are a beginner or advanced lifter – This is a great gym to join. They are really respectful to your needs and offer great instruction. The programming is excellent and the space they have is huge. The owners are really nice, supportive, professional, and very helpful. I did both the BRX and Fit classes and both are a great option regardless of your level of fitness.

I joined this gym at the end of the summer for two main reasons: their emphasis on member health and safety with their stellar Covid-19 precautions and their commitment to social justice and equality as a business. Now that I’ve been there for a couple of months, I am extremely impressed with their high quality, intentional programming and the quality of the coaches. They build time into every workout to ensure that members are fully warmed up and fully coached on each part of the workout to come, and all are welcome and encouraged regardless of where we are on our fitness journey. I feel so well cared for as a member there! Above and beyond all of that, it’s such a warm, friendly, and fun place with a beautiful facility in a great location. Highly recommended!!

I love to train here! The coaches are top notch athletes and are very thorough instructors and great motivators! The location could not be better, and all my fellow Cross Fitters are great fun to be with. The energy here is high, and intense without being overly competitive. We all push each other and encourage each other to do our best at each work out, and have fun doing it. I am stronger, faster, more flexible and have more endurance than ever before, and all because of the time I put in at Cross Fit Broad Ripple. Excellent!!

Such a fantastic gym! I started out with barely any experience with cross fit and have never felt out of place here! The coaching staff is wonderful and always so helpful. They motivate and educate you all while having a smile on their face! It’s a very welcoming community!

As the first place I’ve tried Crossfit, BRFC has been an incredible experience. The workouts are challenging as expected, but I know I can count on other people to help cheer me on. The staff is incredible knowledgeable, professional and patient, as well as always upbeat and excited to help. As a newbie, I was pleasantly surprised coaches review the moves before every workout to make sure we’re performing the work correctly. It’s such a great community and is the first time I’ve ever been excited to workout in the morning.

M4G is the best CrossFit gym I’ve been to. Coaches are competent, and give useful feedback to help me improve. Folks are kind and welcoming. The space is huge and furnished with a variety of top-notch (new) equipment, which makes it feasible to practice new skills! The community is also very strong; with regular social events, fundraisers (like the attached video: 30 minutes of burpees for a homeless shelter), and competitions. Plus, you can use open gym at the same time as class so long as there is space! Amazing experience!

Very welcoming experience all around. Recently moved to the area and had very little crossfit experience. That did not stop the coaches and community from helping me get started and get going. I enjoy showing up to every workout because there is a clear, purpose driven goal to every move we do. I recommend stopping by for an intro and talking to the staff about your goals!

Made 4 Greatness! I got invited by a friend and got my butt kicked! The workouts are scalable — great for anyone just starting out, but they’ll still push even really fit folks. The coaches know their stuff and are super helpful. The space is clean and has everything you need. Definitely recommend checking it out!

I love Edge. When I was going in person, I loved the intentionality of the coaches to correct form and teach! I now do their workouts from home. I love that they switch it up enough that it doesn’t seem boring, it’s not too «crossfitty» but does have a CrossFit feel. Which I love. I highly recommend this place!

Edge is easily the best exercise program I’ve been apart of. It’s truly been an amazing experience. They were the most supportive group of trainers and members. Super knowledgeable. Not only are you working on making lifestyle changes and getting in shape, but you’re getting education on proper form, breathing, techniques etc and they meet you where you are so don’t I never felt intimidated. Starting w/the 30 day transformation class was really helpful and allowed me to be more confident when I transitioned to regular group classes the following month. I only stopped going because I moved out of state.

Edge Fitness has an amazing gym environment! All of the trainers work very closely with clients to make sure they accommodating workouts that will achieve each specific goal! One thing I love about Edge is there is such a diverse group of individuals. I tend to go to classes at all different times so I get to see different people each time! I would recommend this gym to anyone who wants accountability and support from trainers and other members.

Absolute love Edge Fitness! The family atmosphere that Chris & Jason create is one of the things I love most. Everyone is encouraging & helpful, even to a rookie boot camper like me, a 53 year old, very overweight grandmother who hadn’t exercised in over 15 years. I have been pushed & encouraged beyond what I thought I could accomplish and now can’t wait to get to the gym. Chris & Jason made modifications that I needed to get started, but have encouraged me to challenge myself! I can honestly say I love going to boot camp & most importantly, the support I have from everyone at Edge and how they all helped me change my attitude about myself!

Best gym around! The coaches make you feel a part of the «family» from day one, and do a great job adjusting their programming based on your fitness level. The overall gym atmosphere is one of a kind as well. With myself now living in Northern Indiana Edge is a must stop whenever I’m in Indy.

Frequently asked questions about CrossFit Centers in Indianapolis

What exactly is CrossFit, and how is it different from traditional gym workouts?

CrossFit is a structured fitness program that combines elements of weightlifting, gymnastics, and metabolic conditioning. It’s known for its high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts, which typically involve short bursts of intense exercise followed by brief recovery periods. Unlike traditional gyms, CrossFit emphasizes functional movements – movements that mimic everyday actions – and a community-based approach focused on constant progression. Many participants appreciate the varied and challenging nature of the workouts, which helps prevent boredom and promotes overall fitness.

Are CrossFit workouts safe, and what about injuries?

Safety is a paramount concern at any CrossFit center. However, due to the intensity and complexity of the workouts, injuries can occur if proper technique isn’t employed. Most reputable CrossFit boxes in Indianapolis prioritize qualified instruction and scaled workouts – modified versions of the workouts adapted to an individual's fitness level. It’s crucial to listen to your body, communicate any limitations, and work with a coach to ensure you’re performing movements correctly. Proper warm-up and cool-down routines are also essential to minimize the risk of injury.

What equipment do CrossFit centers typically use?

CrossFit centers usually utilize a relatively small but versatile range of equipment. This often includes a pull-up rig, a squat rack, medicine balls, kettlebells, boxing bags, rowing machines, and plyo boxes. Many boxes also incorporate wall balls and speed bags. The emphasis is on using these tools to perform functional movements rather than specialized machines. The minimal equipment footprint allows for efficient use of space.

What’s the typical class structure like at a CrossFit box?

A typical CrossFit class, often called a "WOD" (Workout of the Day), might begin with a warm-up, followed by the main WOD, which could involve a combination of movements like thrusters, burpees, and cleans. After the WOD, there's usually a skill portion focusing on technique refinement for specific movements. The class concludes with a cool-down and stretching. The format is dynamic and adjusts based on the day’s WOD, offering a constant challenge.

How much experience does a CrossFit coach need?

The level of experience required for a CrossFit coach varies. While some coaches hold a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer certification, which demonstrates a basic understanding of CrossFit methodology, others may have advanced certifications or extensive experience. It's crucial to check the coach’s qualifications, including their experience in teaching and their understanding of movement mechanics and programming principles. A good coach should be able to provide personalized instruction and assess your fitness level accurately.

What’s the cost of CrossFit memberships?

Membership costs at CrossFit centers in Indianapolis can vary considerably depending on the box's location, amenities, and membership tier. Typically, you can expect to pay anywhere from approximately $80 to $200+ per month for a standard membership, which usually includes access to classes and some gym equipment. Some boxes offer drop-in rates or class packs for a more flexible option. It's advisable to compare pricing structures and consider your workout frequency when choosing a membership.

Are CrossFit boxes good for beginners?

Many CrossFit boxes in Indianapolis are welcoming to beginners. However, it’s important to choose a box that emphasizes proper instruction and scaled workouts for newcomers. Start with introductory classes designed for beginners, and don’t hesitate to ask a coach for assistance with any movements. Building a solid foundation in fundamental movement skills is crucial for long-term success in CrossFit. Starting slowly and progressively increasing intensity is always recommended.

What are the benefits of CrossFit beyond just physical fitness?

CrossFit offers numerous benefits beyond just physical fitness, including increased strength and endurance, improved cardiovascular health, enhanced mental toughness, and a strong sense of community. The challenging nature of the workouts can boost confidence and promote a growth mindset. The supportive community provides motivation and accountability, fostering a positive and empowering experience.

How do CrossFit boxes in Indianapolis differ from each other?

CrossFit centers in Indianapolis vary greatly in terms of atmosphere, coaching style, equipment, and specializations. Some boxes focus on competitive CrossFit while others prioritize general fitness and community building. Some may specialize in specific movements like Olympic lifting or gymnastics. It’s important to visit different boxes, observe a class, and speak with the coaches to find one that aligns with your goals and preferences. The community culture plays a significant role in the overall experience.

What should I look for when choosing a CrossFit box?

When choosing a CrossFit box, consider factors such as the coach’s qualifications, the gym’s atmosphere, the equipment available, the class schedule, and the community. Observe a class to assess the coaching style and the overall energy. Talk to current members to get their feedback. Ensure the box prioritizes safety and member well-being. Trust your gut – you want to find a place where you feel comfortable and motivated.
