set up an appointment to get our kitten neutered & microchipped. super impressed with how organized their facility is with being so high volume. parking is a little difficult but i expected that knowing how many spays/neuters they do. waited about 20 minutes in our car & then got a call to come inside. a member of their staff explained the process every step of the way. we got a call when he was out of surgery letting us know he did well & if we wanted to pick him up early. super happy with the care they provided! will recommend! Awesome! Place to go once you get there. Everyone is helpful. Friendly, larger and lots of seating. Everything moves fairly quickly. I was surprised. Takes a while to check out but and they got to make sure everything’s right.

Best and cheapest place to keep your pets healthy. I made an appt. that was 3 weeks out for vaccines, heart worm test and nail trim. Wait time in lobby was about 15 min. Highly recommend.

Good option for low-cost services for your furhead! Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. We had our fur baby neutered and the end results were fantastic, she is doing well and after just one day she was ready to run and jump as if nothing had been done. All being said it was a good experience, I recommend FACE for all services if needed.

I recently visited West Michigan Street Veterinary Clinic and was impressed by their careful diagnostics and pet-first approach. The team explained options clearly, answered questions patiently, and treated my dog with kindness during our check-up and vaccines.
The facility was welcoming, clean, and organized, making a usually stressful visit much easier. I left feeling confident in the care plan and grateful for the professionalism and genuine empathy shown by the team.

My first time here, we had to put our sweet girl down. I’d give it 5 stars if it wasn’t for the vet. The office ladies were fantastic, our Vet Tech was fantastic, they made me feel very comfortable in an uncomfortable situation.
The Vet however, came in for his “mandatory vet check” before an end of life visit, and said to my dog, not even to me, “you’re a skinny thing aren’t you… but your tail is still wagging”
Our dog hadn’t eaten in a week and any water she drank she threw up. So yep. She was pretty skinny. Like we didn’t know that. Glad my happy girl wagged her tail for you after I fed her 7 pieces of chocolate because she was about to be put down.
That’s my only complaint, he made me feel like I was making the wrong decision when my dog had no quality of life left, all because her tail was wagging…
Otherwise I had a great experience. Everyone was super kind and super helpful.

Absolutely terrible experience at West Michigan Street Veterinary Clinic. I brought my two kittens in for minor skin issues and routine check-ups. They were adopted from IACS, so they already had all of their beginning vaccines and full medical records, which I also brought with me. Despite having everything they could possibly need, we were still turned away at the desk.
The staff demanded I contact every vet my kittens had ever seen so they could request additional notes — an unnecessary and ridiculous requirement considering I already had detailed records in hand. To make matters worse, I was told the doctor “can’t see certain issues on Saturdays.” What kind of clinic refuses to address basic health concerns just because of the day of the week?
Instead of helping, they piled on pointless rules and hoops to jump through, only to deny care in the end. My kittens’ situation was minimal and easily manageable, yet they refused to see them. This place wasted my time, showed no compassion, and left me completely frustrated. I will not be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone who actually wants their pets cared for.

Wanted to send an email today regarding my recent visits with you all. I first want to mention that I have been bringing my 2 dogs here for the past 11 years. Overall the service has been good and I really like Dr Johnson.
However, recently the service has been terrible. Blu was diagnosed with diabetes January 2024. She was due for an updated glucose test, and I brought her in along with our other dog Oscar on 6/13/25. We waited in line to check in for over 2 hours. At check in we were advised we were still in the window of time (4-6 hours after insulin shot). While waiting for over 2 hours I received a call stating that it was too late to take her glucose test and we need to come back another day. That person said they would call me back and they never did. Meanwhile we check in with Oscar see the vet, etc. and Dr Johnson advised me that next time I bring Blu back for glucose check to bring her to the back door so there would be no wait.
I brought her back on 6/19 and the entire place was closed. Not one car in the lot at all that day. Website and voicemail made no mention of being closed that day. So a wasted trip.
I brought her back again on 7/2, to the back door like Dr Johnson told me to. I did still check in, but didn’t have to wait on the line. Overall not a bad experience but I was there over an hour. Blu’s glucose was low, so they advise to bring her back this week. I brought her there today, went to the back door again, tech said I would need to go wait in line to check in, I said NO Dr Johnson said to bring her to the back door for no wait. Then the tech sent Michelle to tell me that I needed to go wait in the line to check in, that is the process. I told her there was a very long line to check in and she didn’t seem to care. She also said once checked in it should go fast since we are not seeing the vet. I waited in line about 45 minutes, in 90 degree heat with Blu to check in. The entire time not one person was checked in. It was entirely too hot to wait any longer so I went in and bought insulin for Blu, got all may paperwork and advised the tech that we will NEVER be back here again. After 11 years and this is the way we get treated??? I understand it first come first served, but when the Vet specifically says to go to the back door so there is no wait for a quick glucose check, and Michelle was rude about it. There should be exceptions for certain situations, but I guess its all about numbers for you all instead of actually caring for the pets and their owners.
I just can’t continue to wait for hours and hours every time I come in.
I’m done.

I want to thank West Michigan Street Veterinary Clinic from the bottom of my heart for saving my pup Oscar. He needed immediate surgery for a foreign body removal, and the team took care of him the very same day we came in for the x-ray.
The doctor was exceptionally knowledgeable, clearly and quickly explained all our options, and impressively found time for the surgery despite her packed schedule. The front desk staff were incredibly professional and empathetic, especially Carla, who supported me through a moment of total astonishment and worry for my furry baby.
Not only did they do an amazing job with the surgery and provide all the necessary aftercare supplies and instructions, but they were also patient and kind, guiding me and answering all my questions throughout the three-week recovery process. And to top it all off, this incredible care cost me 90% less than what any other clinic in Indy would charge.
These people are truly saints, and I am eternally grateful.

This place is amazing, the vet techs and the doctor were good sent when my kitty cat was bitten and got sick from an abscess from bite wound . . The wait was minimal , they even did an xray to make sure there were no broken bones. I was freaking out about cost because I had made the mistake of going to emergency vet in beech Grove last time with a horrible experience and was so glad I ran across this clinic this time. They are amazing and I can’t thank them enough. With exam, x rays , anti biotic injection, antiinflammatory injection, IV fluids I spent the same amount that it cost me to walk into the emergency vet clinic in beech Grove which had a three hour wait only to deal with super rude people at front desk. At Michigan street vet, everyone was super helpful, kind , zero wait and fixed my baby girl “Satan” right up ❤️❤️ . Would give a hundred stars if I could !

Wow!! Feel like I just bought a watch from a street corner broker ?? Do not recommend this place, we put our faith in people to be good people and do good things…all these people did was took our money? Very quickly?? And sent us on our way to another cheaper cat ?? What ?? Really ?? Why would anyone spend more than they should or have to? They want $5500 to spade my dog?? Mercy thanks for all the help people? Pet owners beware? It doesn’t take gold to be a good owner.

I would say generally we had a really good experience, they did help our cat Birdie significantly. The process to get our girl into care was a bit convoluted, so lesson learned we should have had our vet send a referral from the get go. Obviously, no one wants to spend thousands of dollars on their animal, but they took good care of her and there was good communication with the vet. I think price wise it’s pretty outrageous everywhere, so what can you do ♀️. But, we are grateful Birdie is recovering and can finally relax at home:)

From the moment we walked in, I could tell our cat would be cared for. It was after 9 pm with 3 people checking in at the same time for emergencies and the front staff were cool, calm, and collected. They got my cat straight back for triage and vitals. We were given a room not long after. The vet, Dr. Nina Fischer, was excellent. I could immediately tell Geoff was in good hands with her. I appreciate that she was very compassionate and caring but direct with the unexpected news and outcomes. It helped us make a difficult decision no one ever wants to make. They were always up front with prices before anything was done. I thought the pricing was very reasonable for emergency care. IndyVet will be my first choice if I ever need it again for future pets

I’ve been taking my dog for several years now to Dr Klein at Indy Vet for an eye issue and 2 weeks ago she had to have it removed due to severe pain. Dr Klein was so wonderful! She is very knowledgeable and skilled and performed an excellent surgery with no recovery problems. When I took my dog back today to have the stitches removed I thought she would have some resistance or hesitation going back into Indy Vet but she drug me into the office and then didn’t want to leave … like always!! If that doesn’t say something for Dr Klein and her wonderful staff I don’t know what else to say. Thank You Dr Klein…. I’ve got my wingman back without pain and healthier than ever!

We had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to our beloved dog after he accidentally got into medication. His condition declined quickly, and we were suddenly facing something no pet owner is ever truly prepared for. From the moment we arrived at IndyVet, the staff showed incredible compassion, professionalism, and kindness.
Dr. Jenna Sullivan cared for us during the night and was both gentle and reassuring. Later on, though everything happened so fast, we believe it was Dr. Alyssa Bryce who helped guide us through the final moments. Her empathy and concern were deeply felt and truly appreciated. We knew our dog was in the best possible hands.
The staff gave us constant updates, were transparent about pricing, and did everything they could to make sure we made it in time to spend those last moments with him. That gift of time meant the world to us.
Emergency vet care is never something anyone wants to need, and it can be expensive, but IndyVet handled every step of this difficult experience with such care. The facility was clean, the team was thorough and kind, and we are so thankful for the way they treated not just our dog, but us, too.
Thank you, IndyVet, for helping us say goodbye with peace, dignity, and love.

Out of an abundance of caution, I took my 14 mo old pup to Indy Vet having discovered he had chewed & swallowed several plastic pieces off his crate, likely much earlier that day. The staff was very caring and thorough in their exam and in the end recommended no expensive testing or treatment. I’m happy to report 48 hrs later my little guy is doing fine following the recommended of
‘bulk feeding’ to help push things through.

We were clients of Dr Schnepf for 20+ years so we shifted here when he merged with them. Change is hard when you and your pets are used to somewhere else, but we are very happy with our experiences here.
Each time we’ve come in, we were met with timely, caring care. The staff excel with customer service and they were so good with my dog Oslo!
They call and check on him after each appointment, and they provided great instructions after his tooth extraction. He was feeling back to normal in no time.

This hospital has worked with my family two separate times after our dog ate a sock. Both times she needed surgery, and all of the staff were nothing but helpful while working with a very limited budget. They took excellent care of our dog and communicated every step of the way even during surgery both times. I have come here for years and will continue to do so thanks to the awesome staff. June is usually a mean dog but she loved everyone here! Thank you again!!!!

When you own 7 dogs and 6 cats, you develop a certain expectation for emergency vet care because you’ve been through it all. We recently relocated and the quality of emergency vet care we would receive in Indy was a concern for us since our “pack of problems” tends to make us frequent fliers. *It is a relief to say that we have found our go-to in the Indy area.* Noah’s was everything we expected and more. Genuine concern from the staff, thorough exams that consider all potential scenarios, a clean facility, detailed explanations and options, and gentle care with what is best for the animal as the priority. And, speaking from far too much experience – affordable. The care we received from Mordecai and Dr. Johnson was genuine, intentional, and focused on the specific needs of my dog – even though the hospital was fielding several traumas. Once the proper time came for my non-critical dog to be seen, they were still able to provide the attention and care we needed. As the owner of the dog, I felt like I was provided all of the information I needed to make any decisions and I felt like I was part of the discussion regarding my dog’s care plan. Alongside that, I also felt like I was listened to and that I had the ultimate say with the decisions to be made. Dr. Johnson’s post-visit check-in to see how my dog was doing was much appreciated and unexpected – a personal level of care that we actually aren’t used to. Dr. Johnson and the staff at Noah’s are truly in the business because they love animals and want to do their part to help them heal and thrive!

I can’t say enough good things about Dr Hedges! She treated Baxter (13 years old) with loving care both during our visit while preparing for his dental cleaning & during the actual cleaning involving many extractions. I was made aware during the procedure of how he was doing, which I greatly appreciated. She’s the best & kindest – we truly appreciate her.

Every single person we interacted with here was incredibly kind and professional. Dr. Johnson was knowledgeable and took the time to really explain everything to us. He also sent an email later with patient notes, just in case we forgot anything, which was so appreciated!
The front office staff was so helpful in setting up the appointment and dealing with billing. There were no surprise charges and everything (the reasons for each test, what they would include in terms of procedure and results, and what they would cost) was explained before we were asked to agree to them. You always hope to never have to see an emergency vet, but I will say that I would go back to Noah’s if we ever need one again!

Our beagle started having seizures out of nowhere so we ended up having to make about 4 back to back trips to Noah’s. In December his seizures got really bad and we had to euthanize him and the staff there was so incredibly compassionate and caring. They gave us little chocolates to give him before he passed and let us spend as much time as we needed. They are hands down the best!

We were transferred from IndyVet to here for surgery for my dog, they took excellent care for her and gave us a very good list on how to care for her. They let us visit her because she’s an anxious dog who is always with her other Canine companion or us. They even gave her a quick bath and before she wasn’t eating or even moving. She was much more willing to move around and even enjoyed chicken when she got home and then laid down and dozed off. Her care at Noah’s was excellent and they knew the severity of my dog’s health and since she was dehydrated they took care of her before going into surgery at 4 in the morning! And they were done by 6! Although we were asleep of course it’s good it was a quick surgery and there were no complications. Here are some pictures of when we went to visit her and pick her up and the moment she got home and went to sleep excellent reaction time for her emergency as she could’ve passed away without us knowing and Noah’s took care of it immediately, even after having done a surgery before hand!

Our sweet cat is happy to be home, and it’s all thanks to the staff at Noah’s! They saved his life, after whisking us in immediately for treatment. This is our third experience with Noah’s Emergency 24/7 care. During his entire stay, they provided consistent updates and thorough communication.
This isn’t the first time we have needed the life-saving care Noah’s provides. Our first two experiences were for our pet dog, who also received excellent treatment.
All the staff at Noah’s goes above and beyond! They are fair and up front about all costs associated with the care they provide. I highly recommend them for all pet emergencies.

We recently moved, shortly after our beloved Max, 11 1/2 year old Rottie had given up. This team of professionals took us in and treated us with so much respect! We were going through a very difficult decision to help our poor boy. They made everything go smootly and Max did not have any issue saying goodbye, he was very comfortable and in a good state. Thank You so very much for helping us! We are so lucky we found you. The pic is Max at 6

Came in to get my babygirl Gracie checked out when she lost a lot of weight out of no where. Had no idea she was extremely sick. During her stay, I received clear and regular communication about her status (not needing to track down her care team as I had to at another hospital) and everyone was kind and compassionate. I wasn’t too upset at the 2 hour wait as I appreciated that Noah’s takes the most dire cases first. When I had to make the difficult decision to put her to sleep, the team was so patient as I took a lot of time to say goodbye. I got a lovely paw print and a card later on too. Thank you to Noah’s staff for making this process as comfortable as it could be for our family ❤️

The doctor was extremely thorough and kind, even offered me a hug as she left when we realized euthenasia was the only option. When we returned the next day for that, they were extremely caring as well. I love you Charley!

An emergency vet trip is never fun, but I am blown away by how the staff at Noah’s makes each visit as easy as possible. I have a reactive dog and Robert B. expertly handled my dog with care, and calmed my fears. My dog is on the mend, and I can’t thank Noah’s enough.

Broad Ripple Animal Clinic presents a calm, organized environment where pet owners feel supported from intake to discharge. The team combines professional insight with gentle care that respects anxious animals. Scheduling is flexible, and the front desk staff offer practical guidance on medications and routines. The exam rooms feel clean, well lit, and the technicians communicate clearly, helping families understand diagnoses and next steps without unnecessary jargon. Overall, the experience reinforces trust in ongoing wellbeing for pets.
During visits for preventive care or urgent concerns, the clinic demonstrates efficiency and empathy in equal measure. The team takes time to answer questions, review test results, and tailor plans to each pet’s lifestyle. I appreciate the emphasis on transparency and owner education, so families feel confident following through at home. The lasting impression is a sense of depth of knowledge paired with genuine warmth toward every patient.

I absolutely love the staff, the way they treated my dog and I was absolutely outstanding!
Taking my pup to the vet has never been the best experience, he is a bit picky on who he likes. But the staff here went above and beyond to make sure he was as comfortable as he could be. I highly recommend Broad ripple animal clinic to anyone!!!

Brought my baby cat to the clinic last year. The clinic was too busy and looked like they did not have enough staff/docs.
The doctor was not compassionate with my cat and recommended thousands of tests that racked up the bill to the roof.
She ended up giving him a steroid and put him on a diet at the same time. We later found out steroids makes them more hungry and my cat did not have a weight issue to begin with. He is a 14 pound tall boy which is perfectly okay at 14 pounds.
They asked us to come back in couple of weeks which wasn’t necessary and they only asked if the symptoms are gone during the second visit.
I honestly don’t know how they have 4.8 stars on Google. Stay away if you can.

Our 12-year-old lab, Levi, was under the weather, and our regular vet could not see him for a week. I reached out to the BRAC, and they were able to work him into the same-day schedule. Dr. Barr and her vet tech were kind, compassionate, and helpful. Levi is on the mend, and we look forward to revisiting the clinic soon for a recheck. I highly recommend this clinic!

Had to run our pup to the ER. They were close and reasonably priced, so we went here. I’m so glad we did!! The staff is AMAZING! Our pup was seen by Dr. Crenshaw and Cai, and they were so friendly and easy to talk to! They really set us at ease, and our pup is feeling so much better! Thanks for a wonderful experience in a time of crisis!

Airport Animal Emergi-Center proved to be a reliable, responsive option when a pet emergency struck. From the moment I arrived, the team moved quickly, assessed the situation, and reassured us with clear explanations of options. The veterinary staff demonstrated calm, professional care, easing our stress during a frightening moment. I appreciated the transparent communication about costs upfront and the compassionate treatment my pet received, which helped us make informed decisions in a difficult time.
Even after the visit, the team followed up to check on my pet and offered practical guidance for home care. What stood out was the emergency workflow, the clear notes left for the owner, and the gentle handling of a scared animal. If you find yourself in an urgent veterinary situation near the airport, this center feels capable, compassionate, and dependable when every minute matters.

We woke up to the heartbreaking discovery that our beautiful girl, Blanche, had unexpectedly passed away over night. I called AAEC for cremation service and Sabrina was extremely nice, empathetic, and explained their services. When it was time to pick up her remains, there was a mix up on her last name but they discovered the mistake immediately and asked me to come back the next day so they could fix the issue with the place that cremated her. I have never taken my pets here for an emergency. This review is solely based on this experience. One thing I have an issue with is when they took her vet information, they said they would contact them to stop notification reminders for Blanchie, however, I received this email from the a couple days later (see photo). They just need to update their email settings.

We were treated with care, compassion, and kindness when I had to bring my dog in on a weekend. He’d been seizing and was very obviously was at the end of his life and I needed to humanly allow him to pass and no longer be in pain- and they took care of him right away. The tech we worked with was incredibly kind to us as well as my sweet boy, giving me as much time as I needed and making sure he was comfortable. They were transparent about our options and upfront about cost. I hope I don’t need to, but I will use again if needing a pet emergency.

On 7/19 we came home to find our 72# German Shepherd mix sick. At first we were unsure of what was going on. It didn’t take long to find she had gotten into the kitchen and self served with mini Semi Sweet Chocolate chips. Like 2/3 pounds of Chocolate. I immediately started calling emergency clinics. First one the vet was headed into emergency surgery so they were closing the clinic. Second one was so busy they were on furlough to get caught up. That landed me at Airport Animal Emergi Center in Indianapolis.
Our girl was very very sick. She was vomiting on our way to the vet. Was I prepared for this absolutely not. I was not prepared to lose our 7 year mother to our other animals. But we made it to the vet. We waited maybe 5 minutes for a room to be emptied and cleaned. The staff jumped right in and hit the ground running. The vet told us as we hit the door to treat her was $500 starting. He wanted us to be prepared. He also told us of everything that can happen quickly if things go south. Thankfully either she didn’t eat it until just before we got home or we got her there before real trouble set it. He was going to keep her through the night. I explained my husband and I both were on disability so much is always something we needed to discuss. He said as a practicing Vet for 22 years he would feel comfortable letting us take her home. They sent home active charcoal for her next dose when we got home.
I pray this never happens again because if it does she will be staying in clinic. But the time we got the 3 BIG syringes down her it was coming out her back side. It forced all the remaining chocolate out of her body. Thankfully the vet sedated her so she was very calm throughout it all to include the multiple rinses she got getting the charcoal off.
From the bottom of my families hearts to yours THANK YOU to everyone who helped with our Chocolate girl. Forever Gratefil

We recently had to take our family dog of 10 1/2 years here to put him to rest. My husband and I have had him our entire marriage and it was so difficult for us. The vet tech that put him to sleep was amazing, she was so gentle and sweet to him. Told him how cute he was. The entire staff was very accommodating and we received a card in the mail about 2 weeks later with the staff’s signatures inside and warm words from a lot of them. I just want to thank you all for helping us through this and making it as peaceful for him as it possibly could have been, he was an amazing pup.

We just had to take my boy cat in because he had done something to his tail, whether licking or getting it stuck somewhere. It was bleeding everywhere. I was terrified. The techs and the vet made me feel so much better. They wrapped his tail, gave me some information, and helped ME feel better about taking care of my sweet boy. It was such a nice interaction, especially in a moment of panic. They had us in and out quickly, while making sure we had everything we needed to care for him at home. Thank you thank you to everyone there. If I need to bring my babies in for anything emergency related, I’ll be coming here.

Our dog needed emergency surgery. We live an hour and a half away and took her to Airport emergency center . They were very kind and helpful and answered all of our questions and even walked us through signing up for financing. They explained everything very well and took excellent care of our fur baby. We truly appreciate your kindness and for taking such great care of her. We highly recommend taking your animal here. Thank you!

This is a tough one. I should have known not to go here by the lack of compassion in the girls voice when I called. The vet and tech were polite, for the most part. They were upfront and honest about care and costs. They were professional. Yet, they lacked the level of compassion needed for someone who comes in alone in a situation that was totally unexpected. Yes, they would say “I’m sorry-I know this is hard”-with empty eyes that did not sound genuine. That’s just my perception. The tech actually came across as rude in her tone a few times. I struggled with payment for what was needed and felt a little rushed to make decisions while trying to make calls for help. No wiggle room for payment if you don’t qualify for Care Credit or Scratch pay. My baby girl passed less than an hour after leaving.

We have nothing but positive things to say. The whole experience was very organized and straightforward. Dr. E. Rose spayed our dog, and she set us up for success with the medications prescribed. She had surgery last Thursday, and thanks to your thoughtful care, she has remained calm and her pain well controlled. Thank you, Dr. Rose and the entire team at IndyHumane! You do an excellent job!!

Excellent and affordable clinic. Got my cat neutered from here without any issues at a quarter of the price quoted by his regular vet. His recovery went smoothly and he is a happy kitty. They were great at communication and quick to respond when I sent them a photo of his incision just to make sure that it looked ok (it did).

Routine preventive care and wellness exams
In Indianapolis, veterinary clinics emphasize routine preventive care to help pets live longer, healthier lives. Regular wellness exams and preventive care plans include comprehensive physical assessments, parasite prevention, and vaccination status reviews. During these visits, clinicians check behavior, nutrition, dental health, and weight, looking for early signs of illness and baseline health data to track over time. Veterinary teams tailor recommendations to each patient, offering examinations and age-appropriate screenings that evolve with the pet's life stage. The goal is to detect problems before they require more extensive treatment, and to educate owners about home care routines that support ongoing health.
Vaccinations and disease prevention
Vaccination programs in Indianapolis clinics provide core vaccines and non-core vaccines based on species, lifestyle, and exposure risk. Clinics outline recommended schedules, boosters, and considerations for shelter or boarding environments. Alongside vaccination, parasite prevention—including heartworm, flea, and tick control—is integral to disease prevention. Clinicians also discuss infection control measures, zoonotic risk awareness, and vaccination records to ensure ongoing protection as pets age.
Diagnostic imaging and laboratory services
Imaging and lab work are used to diagnose and monitor conditions. Many Indianapolis clinics feature digital radiography, ultrasound, and in-house laboratory capabilities for rapid results. These tools help veterinarians interpret abnormalities in organs, bones, and soft tissue, enabling accurate diagnoses. Additional services may include ECG, dental radiographs, and advanced imaging through referral networks when needed. Robust diagnostic services support condition assessment, treatment planning, and progress monitoring.
Dental care and oral health
Oral health is a focal point of pet care in Indianapolis, with preventive cleanings, comprehensive dental exams, and dental radiographs to detect hidden problems. Dental services often include scaling, polishing, and tooth extractions when necessary. Clinicians emphasize anesthesia safety and pain management during procedures to minimize stress. Regular dental prophylaxis helps prevent gum disease and supports overall health, nutrition, and quality of life.
Surgical services
Veterinary surgery in Indianapolis covers soft tissue procedures, spay and neuter programs, and specialist surgeries when required. Surgeons employ aseptic technique and anesthesia monitoring to ensure patient safety from preoperative assessment to recovery. Patients may receive pain management plans and postoperative instructions that support healing and reduce complications. In many clinics, surgery is complemented by preoperative testing and postoperative checkups to track progress.
Emergency and urgent care
Emergency services in Indianapolis offer 24/7 access at designated clinics for critical situations. Triage, stabilization, and rapid diagnostics are key components of care during urgent episodes. Clinicians provide life-saving interventions and coordinate with specialists when necessary for complex emergencies. Owners are guided through decisions about treatment options, prognosis, and costs, ensuring compassionate support during stressful times.
Nutrition, weight management, and metabolic support
Nutrition plays a central role in disease prevention and management. Veterinary teams recommend therapeutic diets, portion control, and weight management plans tailored to age, breed, and activity. They monitor body condition scores, advise on feeding routines, and consider metabolic health factors that influence energy balance. In cases of food allergies or chronic conditions, clinicians coordinate with owners to select appropriate dietary strategies that support overall wellbeing.
Behavioral counseling and training resources
Many clinics provide or refer for behavioral counseling to address anxiety, aggression, or house-training challenges. Veterinary teams work with owners to develop behavior modification plans and recommend environmental changes that reduce stress for pets and households. When needed, they can connect families with certified trainers or veterinary behaviorists for professional evaluation and ongoing support. Behavioral health is viewed as an essential component of humane and harmonious pet ownership.
Frequently asked questions about veterinary clinics in Indianapolis
What services are commonly offered at veterinary clinics in Indianapolis?
In Indianapolis, veterinary clinics provide a comprehensive range of services to support pets through all life stages. Preventive care such as vaccinations, parasite control, and wellness exams helps detect issues early. They also offer diagnostic services like blood work, radiography, and ultrasound, as well as surgical procedures ranging from routine spay/neuter to complex soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. Dental care, nutrition counseling, and emergency care are other common components. If your pet has special needs, many clinics coordinate with external specialists and offer cardiology, dermatology, or behavioral consultations when appropriate.
How can I find an Indianapolis veterinary clinic that fits my pet's needs?
Consider factors such as location, hours, communication style, and the clinic's reputation for compassionate care. Look for clinics with board-certified specialists on staff or accessible referral networks if your pet has specialized needs. Read client reviews, ask for referrals, verify accreditations, and confirm that the facility maintains cleanliness and safety standards. An initial phone call or short visit can help you assess staff responsiveness and facility atmosphere.
What should I expect during my first visit to a clinic in Indianapolis?
During the first visit, you will typically complete medical history forms and present vaccine records. The veterinarian will perform a physical examination, discuss any behavioral concerns, and outline a tailored preventive plan for your pet. Depending on age and risk factors, the visit may include screening tests such as blood work, urinalysis, or fecal testing, as well as a review of nutrition and exercise needs. If needed, scheduling for follow-up exams or procedures will be discussed before you leave.
How are vaccination schedules determined for Indianapolis pets?
Vaccination schedules are guided by core vaccines relevant to all pets and risk-based recommendations based on lifestyle and exposure. The clinic will review your pet’s age, health status, and local disease prevalence to determine timing for booster shots and annual or triennial boosters. Maintaining a clear record of immunizations helps protect your pet and the broader community from preventable diseases.
What are typical costs at a veterinary clinic in Indianapolis?
Costs vary by service and pet needs, but commonly include consultation fees, diagnostic tests, medications, surgical costs, and anesthesia. Preventive care packages may offer discounted plans for routine vaccines and parasite prevention. It’s helpful to ask for a written estimate before non-emergency procedures and to check whether the clinic accepts pet insurance or offers payment plans.
Do Indianapolis clinics offer emergency care after hours?
Many clinics provide after-hours support or have relationships with dedicated emergency facilities in the area. After-hours care often involves a triage process to determine urgency, with emergency physicians available for critical issues such as severe trauma, vomiting, inability to stand, or breathing difficulties. If your pet develops a medical emergency, knowing where to go and having contact information on hand can save valuable time.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring your pet’s medical history, vaccine records, a list of current medications, any allergies, and details about recent changes in behavior or appetite. If you have a referral letter or prior test results, bring them as well. Having a short note of symptoms and a recent photo can help the veterinarian quickly understand your pet’s situation.
Is boarding or day care available at veterinary clinics in Indianapolis?
Some clinics offer boarding or day care services designed to provide routine monitoring, exercise, and feed management while owners are away. When considering boarding, inquire about facility cleanliness, staffing levels, medical supervision, emergency procedures, and comfort measures (personal spaces, quiet rooms, and climate control) to ensure a safe environment for your pet.
How do I read a veterinary bill and understand charges?
Common line items include examination fees, procedures, laboratory tests, imaging, medications, and facility fees. Some clinics offer a pharmacy option or home delivery for medications. If anything is unclear, ask for a line-by-line explanation and request a copy of the receipt for your records.
What should I do if my pet needs a specialist?
If your pet requires specialized care, your primary veterinarian can provide a referral to a board-certified specialist in areas such as cardiology, dermatology, oncology, or orthopedics. Coordination between clinicians is common and can improve outcomes through shared diagnostic information and a cohesive treatment plan. Discuss timelines and insurance coverage with both your main clinic and the specialist to minimize stress for you and your pet.
