Nothing happened. I sent pictures as requested, I texted with Jim and gave all of the detail. One person showed up who had not been briefed on anything, only to tell me he had to come back another day. No one has reached out to reschedule anything. Pile of aluminum is still in my backyard.

I needed someone to carry out a relatively simple task; remove and dispose a broken down refrigerator. I called other companies and many required so much non-relative information; never once having contact with a live person. I called Indy Pickup and pretty quickly a live person responded; very courteous and professional. They asked what I want done; I told them, they gave me a price and inquired when I want it done.
We settled on both and the next day: job well done! Sometimes old school is better than high tech. Let’s talk and decide and get the job done and that’s what they did.

I was told I’d get a courtesy call when the pickup team was on the way so I wouldn’t need to wait at home, but the tech called only once he arrived. He hadn’t been told by dispatch to call ahead, but was kind enough to wait after I explained. There was a miscommunication, but the tech was friendly and accommodating. The service is affordable and reliable—they have even picked up an old grill from us for free. Despite the mix-up, I’d still recommend them and will continue to use them for my bulk pickup needs in the future!

The service was great and they came to remove my sleeper sofa the very next day after I scheduled online. The crew was friendly, and moved the furniture from the second floor of our home and had to maneuver a narrow hallway, but did so while ensuring no damage to our walls/home. The ONLY thing stopping me from giving 5 stars is that the website implies that you will receive a text/call in the morning of your service with a time frame, which I never received. I was hoping to be given a shorter window for when to expect them to arrive but was told they would call 30 minutes before arrival, which meant I had to stay home/available for the entire 12 hour window. The company was very responsive via text, however, and once I was notified they were en route, they did arrive within the hour. This may have been because I scheduled last minute. All in all, a great service, but just be willing to be flexible and plan to be homebound for a day. 🙂

Republic Services is HORRIBLE to deal with. After 20 years with them and auto paying them every three months I looked and couldn’t believe my residential service had gone up to $421.54 per quarter I called to see if there was something I could do to lower my bill. They said no. Then I called WM and the same service was $135 per quarter. I signed up for WM and when I called to cancel my service with Republic then they offered to lower my bill. But they couldn’t get close or match the WM pricing so I tried to cancel. Then they wanted over $100 to pick up their containers. So I said I’ll just bring them to you. I stood outside their office for 30 mins and nobody ever came and unlocked the door. The whole time I was on hold trying to reach someone. This company is the perfect t example of how to provide lousy customer service and overcharge people hoping they never notice.

Update: today is May 13th… even though I closed my account with Republic Services and canceled service last month AND stopped the “Auto-Pay” function on their website… they still deducted $421.54 from my account.

I called customer service and was told that they can’t reverse the charge because my account was closed and they should mail a check in a few weeks. Hopefully.

Your company constantly misses our pickup or only takes half of the trash. Your driver took our yard waste bags (dry leaves) the previous week but he refused to take it this week. Support always tell us they will be back tomorrow or Monday (pick up is Friday) over the phone when we call, but it never happens. Five times you have not came and picked it up until the following Friday. The driver sits in front of my house every Friday morning for 15 minutes cleaning the front window, adjusting the mirrors and rearranging the cab but often doesn’t take all of the trash even though it’s obviously ready to go. All that time walking around the truck and too lazy to pick up the lightweight bags with dry leaves in them and toss them in the truck. Your service has been nothing but problems and you never follow up on your word, ever.

Edit: telling every review to email a copy of this review to your email is ignorant. What are you even doing exactly? How about YOU share the review with the company YOU work for! Even the customer service YOU provide for people complaining publicly is horrible. Get better, we expect more…

Edit 2: Well a supervisor promised us they would be here Monday to take our trash. They never came this morning so we called them and they said that they had until 6:00pm and to let them know if they didn’t show up but of course the office is closed and they are not here. They have never once came when they said they would send a driver after missing our trash. This is the sixth time no one has came when they promised they would come the next day or by a specific day. This service is literally trash. Luckily there’s two other options in my neighborhood!

Edit 3: We were promised trash would be picked up on Tuesday. Trash was not picked up on Tuesday either. Supervisor told us to let her know if they didn’t make it by 6:00 which they didn’t, again. This has been happening since the summer when we first became customers. They will just forget to come to your house then not come at all for a whole week.

Edit 4: They came on Wednesday. It looks like the real problem is that their customer support has no direct line of communication with the drivers unless they personally call which isn’t the default method of communication when there’s an issue. This is ridiculous that we will still be changing trash services for 2024. The lack of communication is losing you customers.

Republic Waste has always provided excellent service, but when Account Manager Cindra Venturella answered my call, I was genuinely surprised by how much better the experience became. Her responsiveness and ability to resolve issues efficiently took customer service to a whole new level. My only concern is that Cindra is so outstanding, she’s bound to be promoted soon—and I’ll miss having someone who handles problems so well, I almost look forward to them.

I am sharing some of the same issues that has been repeated on this review thread –which is that our recycling never gets picked up. We have attempted to contact them.directly where we are always put on hold for several minutes (30-60) with never any solid resolution. This has been going on for about 7 months. I really wish this company becomes more transparent with the capacities of their service (which is beyond limited), and halt services they cant provide. The billing service works perfectly though — I get charged every single time. Lol.

EDIT: Here’s the nothingburger response you get if you forward your dissatisfied Google review to their customer service:

“Thank you for sharing your experience. Customer feedback is very important to us here at Republic Services. We apologize for the frustration you experienced.”

With every interaction it becomes more apparent that Republic does not value their customers. Customer feedback is NOT important to them, and they have no compunction about creating additional frustration.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
We do not recommend Republic. Republic was supposed to collect our recycling every other week, but nearly half the time they didn’t. We would call and report that they missed (or skipped) our pick-up. They would say “Ok, someone will come in a few days to get it.” Usually 4 or 5 days later they still hadn’t come, and when we called their solution was “Our truck will be back in your neighborhood next week, and we’ll be sure to get it then.” That ends up being a month between pick-ups, when we were paying for every-other week! Our family generates enough recycling that the bin was nearly full after two weeks, so this created regular problems for us. We finally cancelled this service.

We called ahead to get some information and the lady we spoke to was very helpful and polite. I made about a 15 to 20 minute trip there and found the directions on where to go for my drop off type very easy to follow. There was a very helpful and also polite young man that greeted me at the dock door (the bay doo me I needed) and he began to help offload my items. He was fast and well informed. I had a couple things in my batch of electronics I wasn’t sure about and he knew what they could and could not take and it turned out they were able to take everything! I was very happy with the visit and service.

Green Wave is a great asset to Indianapolis, the circular economy, and the planet on the whole! Overall easy consumer electronics drop-off process, friendly staff, and they accept a wider variety of e-waste than most. Recommend calling ahead to be sure, but it’s likely they accept something you might not think they can!

Was able to recycle a sizeable collection of old, beaten up remote-controlled cars and their controllers from my childhood. Many places won’t accept electronic toys due to how complicated harvesting electronics from them can be. I called ahead to confirm, and they said they could accept my RC cars no questions asked. The hand-off was just as easy at the facility.

Despite their best efforts to idiot-proof the process, I still managed to miss the large button in front of the dock which is used to easily call for assistance. Once you have been met, all you have to do is hand off your e-waste to the employees and they bring it into the facility for you. If you’re bringing a lot of stuff, I recommend sorting it as best as you can before getting there although it’s not required. This makes the process easier for the Green Wave employees and in turn quicker for you.

Green Wave also participates in various recycling events. If you can’t go to their facility, definitely take advantage of their services during these events! Wish there were more e-waste businesses with Green Wave’s capabilities out there!

As a recycling facility, WM – Indianapolis White River Recycling Facility provides clear signage, helpful staff, and reliable curbside or drop-off options. The site runs smoothly, with accessible disposal streams and well-organized areas that reduce confusion for first-time visitors. I appreciate transparent pricing and timely pickups, along with the commitment to diversion and community education. The atmosphere is clean and secure for families and volunteers.

Accessing the site during busy hours can be a bit hectic, but the staff consistently guide visitors and maintain safety rules. I value the efficient sorting systems and the well-lit areas that help residents separate plastics, metals, and paper. If improvements are made to online scheduling and customer support, the experience would be even smoother. Overall, WM remains a trustworthy option for responsible waste management in Indianapolis.

Worst service ever. Our recycling has not been picked up for more than a month and this is after numerous promises that it would be picked up next day. On line it states containers were not out. Simply not true. They’ve been and the curb for days. Oh and do not even try to report anything on line. It’s disastrous. We were actually told to call mayor action line…they had no idea why we were calling. Worst service ever. I’ll be canceling once it’s picked up.

Do not use this company. Their service is terrible, they try and charge you $250 if there is anything above the top of dumpster. I mean anything! Someone put a Christmas tree in my dumpster and now I am getting charged $250 extra!

Read their generic answer to our review. Shows how little they really care about serving customers!

UPDATE* the drivers get to pick and choose which days they want to take multiple containers. I have a curb service. It does not have a restriction on container quantity. They took the one container that was the heaviest and left the rest. Waste management won’t call me back. Or return my emails. I have requested multiple times to be contacted. The online website is the absolute most difficult thing they offer, besides the inconsistency in service and pickups.

Have requested help multiple times. No help.
Have had my service changed without notice.
Have missed trash days.
Have had toter issues.
Billing issues.
Service days switched no notice.
App is difficult.
Website is more difficult.
Computer AI makes it impossible to get anything done.

Victoria is the best! Very patience to new drivers! Great yard employees. . One stopped what he was doing to let me know that I wasn’t all the way on the scale and volunteer to help be. These guys are team players not workers. Easy in and out! The easiest pick up ur’ll ever make

Needs to move out of the 200 Harding St. location. They’re destroying the road and railroad crossing and backing up traffic; and in warm weather it really smells.

As of July 2021 they are no longer excepting trash Dumping so if you come there with a truck and or trailer full of trash you will get turned around they will probably never except trash again from what I was told but it was up to the owner so I will just keep calling back once a month ,,,you have to watch it if you are a residential trash dumper, if you come in with a truck or truck and trailer sometimes they are not accepting public dumping but that only happened to me once other than that I have dumped there quite a few times and it went smoothly they charge by the ton and the minimum is a 1 ton charging fee around 40 bucks roughly, so not bad at all!

It’s very sad that they don’t care about all the huge bumps and all the nails laying everywhere. I’ve been going to zores for years and they just let the entire area go to hell. I’ve messed up one of my trailers from going here, broke the stand on my trailer from the huge bumps on the ground. I’ve gotten numerous nails in my tires it seems like they don’t even care about their customers and their vehicles and trailers. The staff is absolutely amazing. But the area where we have to dump our scrap has huge bumps in the ground there’s always nails everywhere and it’s truly sad that they don’t even care to clean it up, to level the ground, to try to get the nails out of the way. I’m actually considering going to a new scrap yard because I have a brand new trailer and I don’t want the ground to mess up the jack stand and I don’t want to get a bunch of nails in my tires. I seriously hope the higher-ups see this comment and make some changes because I’ve been going to you guys for years and it’s not fair that I have to risk my vehicle and damaging my trailer just to go somewhere that I offer loyalty. Please do better for your customers

They took 20% off of the weight the scales said for what I dropped off (80lbs vs 100lbs), and didn’t give me the change for what was owed for that already shortchanged weight ($6 instead of $6.40)
Also has lots of metal bits on the ground that make me fear for my tires

Although maps and their sign say they’re open until 12:30 on Saturdays, they were closing their gates when I drove up at 12:10 this afternoon, and said they close at noon. This was very disappointing, as I drove 45 minutes to drop off some electronics I’ve been needing to get rid of, and have been struggling to find the time. (Edit: moderating the review after I’ve cooled off a bit.)

Awful service! New service and they delivered a container that was used and very beat up; it was dirty and smelly inside. Their automated system is horrible. It asks for the service address or customer ID and neither will actually work. I had to keep insisting on talking to a rep and going about three rounds of putting in the address or ID until it gives up and sends to a rep.

Once I finally connected, after all the trouble, I just made a judgement call that this is not a company that I felt would be easy to work with, so I requested to cancel.

The rep said she would schedule container pickup and to just leave the container at the curb. I had to press her for a date…which then, I learned would be three weeks out! I said you expected me to leave this nasty looking container on my curb for three weeks? Or keep it in my garage? At which point she said yes. I told her I will have disposed of it before then. She said she would check for an earlier date and I have not heard anything.

Meanwhile, I’m still being billed after requesting cancellation.

Multiple missed weeks, about 2 months of paying for 2 cans but they refused to drop the other off, weve had to call and complain to get out trash picked when up they claimed it was blocked by a vehicle… there was no vehicle its at the end of the driveway. WM sucks, theyll come on and give the same canned AI response theyve given to others but they don’t care. They have the oligarchy of trash in the indiana area. Bring back rays. Trying to get ahold of customer service is horrible as well.

Waste Management is a terrible company offering a terrible service. They bought Ray’s trash, which had been fantastic, and it’s been nothing but problems since. They raised the price to nearly double what I had been paying and offer far less services, refusing to pick up yard waste or any additional bags that do not fit in the trash can. To top it off, they recently accidentally took my trash can when they picked up my trash, told me it would take 4 days to deliver a replacement, and have yet to make that delivery. I have cancelled my service in favor of Republic Services, even though Republic is more expensive. It’s just not worth it. Avoid this company at all costs. Would give 0 stars if I could.

Horrible service! Stole one of our $140.00 trashcans and still has not replaced it. Tried to charge us to use theirs instead. Sometimes only picks up half our trash load. Leaves the site a mess! You call customer service and you are on hold for a very long time. You leave a message and NEVER hear back or the supervisor is not in that day.

WM service is absolutely terrible. I would not recommend them to anyone. Our old trash provider was acquired by WM a few months ago and our trash gets picked up at best every two weeks. Which means, of course, that I have to call and wait on hold for at least 10 minutes to complain. They usually promise to pick it up on Monday (which they also frequently forget to do), and I am left with trash for an additional week. After months of my husband and I spending so much time just trying to get basic service, we will be switching providers. And then when I called to cancel services, they cut me off!

Everyone shops online now and WM requires customers plan large item pick-up in advance and also charges $35 for a large, empty box. We usually break down delivery boxes and put them neatly into one larger box for pick-up. We are not willing to schedule a box pick-up as we typically have a box every other week. Also, we are not going to go with a trash service that has a hidden end use fee for return of the trash bin. Charging $94 fee to collect the trash bin when service is terminated is outrageous.

WM recently purchased Ray’s Trash and that is when the quality of service declined for me. I’ve experienced multiple missed pickups. When they do manage to remember I’m a customer the claw on the truck squeezees the cans so tight only half of the rubbish gets emptied. Don’t bother calling on the weekends the automated ansering service will take 10 min of your time just to say they are not open.

Catalog of services offered by electronics recycling in Indianapolis

Regulatory compliance and environmental law for e-waste operations

Civil attorneys can provide extensive guidance on environmental compliance for electronics recycling facilities operating in Indianapolis. They help interpret and apply requirements from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), federal rules such as RCRA, and local ordinances to ensure ongoing adherence. Services include conducting regulatory due diligence for new ventures, preparing permit applications, maintaining recordkeeping and reporting obligations, and developing comprehensive compliance programs to manage hazardous waste classifications, storage, and disposal in a responsible and auditable manner.

Contract drafting and vendor agreements for e-waste recyclers

Drafting and reviewing contracts and vendor agreements is a core area where civil attorneys add value. They craft clear liability allocations, define service levels, address indemnification, and establish robust data-handling obligations for suppliers, transporters, and downstream processors. By aligning terms with current regulations and industry standards, they help minimize disputes, protect intellectual property, and create enforceable documents that support secure, compliant operations throughout the supply chain.

Data security and electronics data destruction compliance

Data-rich electronics pose privacy and security risks. Civil attorneys can guide data destruction compliance, including creating chain-of-custody protocols, ensuring adherence to privacy laws, and aligning with selected standards for sanitization. They advise on how to document audit trails, implement secure recycling practices, manage notices for data breach risks, and coordinate with clients to meet their data protection requirements while maintaining efficiency in the recycling workflow.

Product stewardship and take-back program guidance

For programs that involve product stewardship and manufacturer take-back initiatives, civil attorneys outline legal frameworks, reporting obligations, and compliance considerations. They assist with designing and documenting take-back programs, evaluating producer responsibilities, and ensuring that programs meet applicable state and federal rules. This support helps electronics recyclers collaborate with manufacturers, retailers, and regulators to advance responsible end-of-life management.

Liability management, risk assessment and insurance coordination

Assessing and mitigating risk is essential in electronics recycling. Civil attorneys conduct risk assessments of operations, including activities around handling hazardous materials, transport, and processing. They help secure appropriate insurance coverage, advise on incident response planning, and structure liability management strategies to protect the entity, reduce exposure, and facilitate efficient claims handling following any incident or regulatory action.

Dispute resolution and civil litigation support

When conflicts arise—whether with regulatory agencies, customers, suppliers, or community groups—civil attorneys provide dispute resolution and litigation support. They offer guidance on mediation and arbitration options and prepare for potential court proceedings, helping to resolve issues efficiently while preserving business relationships and compliance commitments.

    Employment law for e-waste facilities

Operations in electronics recycling involve employment considerations. Civil attorneys advise on employment law compliance, including safety requirements under OSHA, wage and hour regulations, workers’ compensation, and anti-discrimination protections. They assist with workforce policies, training requirements, and grievance procedures to maintain a compliant and productive workplace.

    Corporate governance and compliance programs

Establishing strong corporate governance and compliance programs supports sustainable operations. Attorneys help design policies, implement training initiatives, and create audit-ready frameworks that align with industry best practices and regulatory expectations. This includes governance structures, internal controls, and ongoing oversight to ensure accountability and ethical conduct throughout the organization.

Frequently asked questions about electronics recycling in Indianapolis

What counts as electronic waste (e-waste)?

E-waste includes discarded electrical or electronic devices that are no longer wanted or have reached end-of-life. This category covers a wide range of items such as computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, televisions, monitors, printers, audio players, game consoles, and small appliances with electronic components. It also includes components like circuit boards, batteries, and chargers that are often removed from devices before proper recycling. Not every discarded item is accepted by every program; some items may require special handling due to hazardous materials or separate processing streams.

Why is electronics recycling important in Indianapolis?

Recycling electronics helps prevent toxic substances from entering soil and water, reduces demand for virgin materials, and saves energy. In Indianapolis, programs and facilities provide safe, compliant ways to manage e-waste; proper recycling reduces pollution from improper disposal and supports local jobs in recycling and refurbishment. It also protects personal data when devices are processed through approved channels and ensures that valuable metals and plastics are recovered for reuse.

How can residents recycle electronics in Indianapolis?

Residents can recycle via city-provided drop-off sites, special collection events, or through certified recyclers. Look for local e-waste collection programs, participate in sponsored drop-off events, or drop off at partnered retailers or recycling centers. Always check schedules, item lists, and any appointment requirements to ensure your items are accepted.

Are there items that cannot be recycled via regular programs?

Some items may be excluded from curbside recycling or require separate fees or processing. Common examples include CRT televisions and monitors, large household appliances that contain refrigerants, and devices with unknown components. Always verify with the local program before assuming acceptance; some items require retailer take-back or special collection arrangements.

What should I do before recycling electronics?

Before recycling, back up and protect your data by performing a factory reset or data removal. Remove any batteries or power sources and keep them separate in proper containers. Gather accessories (cables, remotes) if they will be recycled separately, and keep the device model and serial number handy for documentation if needed.

How is the recycled material managed?

Recovered electronics are sorted into streams such as metals, plastics, glass, and circuit boards. Refurbishment programs may give working devices a second life, while other components go to remanufacturing or are used for material recovery to produce new products. Reputable facilities publish their processing methods and recovery rates to demonstrate responsible management.

What about e-waste restrictions during holidays or events?

During peak seasons, municipalities may host special collection days or partner with organizations to handle higher volumes. Check the official calendar for Indianapolis to learn about extended hours, appointment-based drop-offs, and what items are accepted on those days. Plan ahead to avoid long lines or missed collections.

How can I safely dispose of batteries and hazardous components?

Batteries, especially lithium-ion and button cells, require separate handling and should not be placed in regular trash. Use battery recycling programs or the drop-off locations listed by the city. When possible, keep batteries in their original packaging or taped terminals to reduce risk during transport and storage.

Is there a cost to recycle electronics in Indianapolis?

Many municipal programs offer free drop-off for standard e-waste items. Some specialized services or bulky items may carry a small fee, or require a paid pickup. Always confirm costs upfront and look for free or low-cost options through city resources or nonprofit programs that support responsible recycling.

What happens to my data if I recycle a device?

Data security is a common concern. Devices are typically wiped or refurbished in a way that protects personal information, but you should take control by performing your own data removal before drop-off. Some items may be refurbished for resale, while others are securely destroyed to prevent data exposure and protect privacy.
