I had a wonderful experience at Long’s Bakery! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. It was our very first time visiting, and they generously let us try the donuts, which was such a kind gesture.
The prices are very reasonable, and the quality is outstanding. We tried the donuts and cookies, and they were delicious. They also have a great selection of other treats like brownies and more, so there’s definitely something for everyone. I highly recommend this bakery!

This place is a must stop. I am traveling through the area for work and wanted to bring home a local treat for the family. This is the place that I found and this is the place that I would recommend to anyone. The staff here is amazing they are friendly and kind, warm and welcoming. I told them that I had never been to long before and the woman gave me one of their fresh, yeast, glazed donuts because those are what they are known for. It was delicious.
If you come here remember that it is cash only. I was glad that I had read that before I came in so I had some cash on me. Keeping it cash only is a wonderful nostalgic experience but also a great way for them to be able to keep the costs down for future customers.
Anyway, If you are in the area stop by and get yourself some donuts, or maybe some cream horns, everything is delicious.

CASH ONLY! Both locations in town serve up the BEST yeast donuts I’ve ever had. The donut holes are by far our favorite, with the cinnamon fry in second. I do like this location more since it has a nice parking lot and more space in general.

When I stop by the Southport Antique Mall, I also swing into Long’s for a fresh brownie. They have a great selection of items, a friendly staff and plenty of parking.
One note – cash only!
Grab some brownies (traditional, with pecans, with peanut butter or German Chocolate) and some milk and enjoy your day!

We all know Longs is amazing! We frequently visit other local donut shops. However, no one can compare to Longs! It’s just a good old fashioned donut shop. Delicious and affordable. I bought a dozen mixed and 4 apple fries and paid $16. I can go to another shop and get only 6 donuts for $9. Longs is a staple here in the city and will always be my go-to!!!

Sometimes it’s just this simple: Long’s classic glazed yeast is my favorite donut I’ve ever had, period. Since it was my first time, they gifted me a free one, and each bite just melted into a sweet, warm, gooey mouthful of pure deliciousness when it hit my mouth. Love, love, love! I came in with a plan to just try one (applesauce) donut (which was also very tasty) but after my free sample, I added 2 more glazed as well, and ended up wished that I had sprung for more! I’ll definitely be back! Did I mention love, love, love?

Heidelberg Haus is a slice of German Bliss in Indy
Every visit to Heidelberg Haus has been a delicious detour into joy. Whether we’re sitting down for a cozy bite or picking up one of their decadent cakes for a special occasion, this gem never disappoints.
The food and desserts are consistently delicious. My wife always raves about the Black Forest cake—rich, chocolatey, and perfectly layered. My personal favorite is the Yellow Cake with Rum Fudge and Caramel Butter Cream icing. It’s got the kind of flavor that makes you close your eyes and do the happy fork dance. Yes, that’s a thing now.
Beyond the baked brilliance, the shop itself is a treasure trove of unique gifts and German groceries. From quirky trinkets to authentic imports, every shelf feels curated with care and charm.
What seals the deal? The outstanding service. Warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. And the pricing? Surprisingly reasonable, especially for the high quality. You leave full—in both stomach and spirit—but your wallet doesn’t feel ambushed.

Angie was on duty and came over to take my cookie order. I get Almond Tartlet, Black Forest and Red velvet. I get three doughboys for myself, but hide them from my wife since I’m diabetic. Angie put them in a baggie for me. I’m glad Angie was on duty. She kept the same friendly attitude with the next customer.

Izzy was working when I came in to get my wife her order of cookies. Izzy was helping a few customers at the register, but she made sure to acknowledge me and made me feel welcomed. It didn’t take her long before she came over and helped me.
This update is let everyone know that if Izzy is on duty you’re going to be welcomed!

This my wife’s favorite place to eat and get cookies when we’re in Indy. I’m here for work so I’ve been coming here once a week for cookies. They have a large selection to choose from.
Each time I’ve gone in there’s someone available to help. They have a friendly staff. It doesn’t matter what time or day you go in you feel welcomed walking in. The cookies are sold by the pound. I usually spend about $20.
Today Lilly was on duty and she was more than helpful as she answered my questions and waited patiently while I was texting my wife to get her order.
Thank you Lilly for your great customer service!

OMG, I felt like I had just gone back in time and landed in Germany. The food brought tears to my eyes, it was exactly like Mom made. The atmosphere was charged to say the least. My only regret is that I live so far away from them. Everytime I find myself in Indy, I’m going back! I absolutely loved my experience at Heidelberg Haus. I got to meet the owner and his accent reminded of Mom’s accent. Thanks for transporting back to my childhood.

Best lunch ever. It was a delightful combination of flavors that danced on my palate, leaving me completely satisfied. The fresh ingredients burst with color and taste, making each bite a joy. The atmosphere was perfect, with soft music playing in the background and the warm sunlight streaming through the window. I savored every moment, knowing that this experience would linger in my memory long after the meal was over. As I finished my last bite, I couldn’t help but smile, feeling grateful for such a wonderful dining experience.

Happened upon this while visiting from out of town, I didn’t eat at the restaurant but we did get several things to do. The pastries the had were delicious, particularly the custard filled honey drizzled one.
But the star, beyond the fun outfits the staff wore and the general atmosphere was the pretzels. All I can say is it’s a good thing I don’t live closer, or I’d be eating pretzels until I pop.

I’ve been coming here for years. The decor is totally over the top which is quite entertaining. They offer a fantastic selection of all sorts of cakes and pastries, including things you will not find anywhere else in Indy.
Service here is excellent. It’s a great place for a hot meal that is authentically European, but my favorite thing to order is the iced coffee / coffee milkshake. It’s served in a frosted mug or tall fountain glass topped with whipped cream sprinkled with cinnamon. Refreshing and delicious!

Lovely. It’s such a unique place. From the moment we parked, we knew we were in for an experience. The outside of the building has a beautiful mural. Inside, the maximalist decor and various goods for sale hide hidden treasures. Tables tucked around every corner provide a unique dining environment for each party.
The menu is simple, reasonably priced, and delicious. The baked goods are fantastic. The atmosphere is priceless.

From the moment I tasted a sample cake from Sweet Escape Cake Company, I knew I found a treat that balances artistry with flavor. The sponge was light, the filling perfectly paired, and the frosting had a silky finish. The team listened closely to my theme, offered thoughtful suggestions, and delivered a stunning design that exceeded expectations. Their customer care felt personal and trustworthy, making the entire process enjoyable.
The cake arrived pristine, and the decoration was equally impressive, capturing the occasion perfectly. I appreciated the customization options, the transparent pricing structure, and timely delivery that kept the surprise intact. Tasting events were well organized, with clear communication and flexible revision options. If you want a dessert that stands out without compromising on quality, Sweet Escape Cake Company is a reliable choice that consistently delivers delightful results.

Highly recommend!!! Sweet Escapes made our Wedding cake and offered a free 1-year anniversary cake so you don’t have to worry about saving the top tier for later. They made our 1-year anniversary extra special with the most delicious raspberry-filled vanilla cake! The cake was not only gorgeous but tasted incredible—light, moist, and perfectly balanced with the raspberry filling. We traveled almost 14 plus hours from Indiana to Clearwater Beach with it, and it arrived in one piece, ready to celebrate by the ocean. It was the sweetest centerpiece for our romantic getaway and truly added to the memory of our first anniversary. Highly recommend Sweet Escapes for anyone wanting a cake that’s both beautiful and absolutely delicious! Thanks again Sweet Escapes Cake Company!

I custom ordered a cake from Sweet Escape, and let me tell you, I definitely will be again in the future. They are extremely affordable considering the amazing quality of the cake. They absolutely nailed the cake inspiration. I loved how my cake looked. I did think the cake was too sweet for me. However the cream cheese mouse filling was good I would have like to have more filling. I do feel like the filling was layered with frosting I got more frosting in the middle rather than the cheesecake filling. I would come back.! Thank you so much for making my wife happy she loved the look of the cake .!

I found the ordering process, very impersonal and confusing. It is all done online via email. No phone calls or personal contact. To be honest, I was very concerned what the final product would look like, but I was pleasantly surprised. When I arrived to pick the order up. It was ready the girls at the bakery were very pleasant and the order turned out perfect. The cake pops were fantastic, delicious.Everyone at the shower loved them and they looked just like I imagined them.

I recently threw a golf-themed baby shower and had been searching everywhere for someone to recreate a specific cupcake design I found on Pinterest. After several dead ends, I finally placed an order with Sweet Escape and I was blown away! The cupcakes, golf ball cake pops and pretzels were identical to the photo I submitted, down to the smallest detail. Not only did they look incredible, but they tasted amazing too. I will definitely be using Sweet Escape for all my future events!

I ordered online from Whole Foods market and received leaking, spoiled produce with a strong odor, along with bread set to expire in just a few days. When I reached out for help, customer service told me they couldn’t resolve the issue because the order was placed online. Completely unacceptable. I won’t be ordering from this store again, and I strongly recommend others look elsewhere for fresher products and reliable service.

I usually love coming here! I’ve been a regular since it opened several years ago.
Today my partner and I were treated as though we were doing something wrong by the manager on duty on a Friday evening. (Middle aged, long dark hair with silver)
There was a sale for a brand of pretzels and instead of honoring the sale she said we were wrong to the cashier (not acknowledging us or providing customer service) We checked multiple times to make sure we read the promotion correctly, being in customer service myself I knew for a fact we were correct but she didn’t feel like changing the price (for some reason)SO we left without!
Huge bummer tbh…
Daniel was super chill though <3

I really liked the place overall, but some of the staff were rude. At the deli, the woman just tossed the meat at me and said, “Have a nice day,” even though I still needed one more item—I only ended up getting two things.
The cashier also rolled their eyes at my husband, which didn’t make for a very welcoming experience. The atmosphere wasn’t friendly, but I did appreciate the quality of the food.
I’ll definitely go back, just not to the downtown location. It was a disappointing first visit.

Extremely sticky substance under the tray that I ordered meat off of. (It was almost like a glue or honey consistency) Not sure what that is but clean it.

Generally more expensive than a typical grocery store. BUT, the sale prices and house brand prices can be really great. The slice of pizza is the hidden gem. A little less cost for much better quality than most downtown slices.

Really love this location overall. For health food and vegetarian items. A bit expensive as all Whole Foods are but pretty great.
Great produce and food bar. Really love the bakery.
I will say some flowers I got weren’t as fresh as they could be but I was so ecstatic to find peonies.
The only negative is parking. Floor level parking is scarce…and going down is so steep and narrow I really don’t ever want to go that way if I can avoid it.
Also a good spot to do Amazon returns.

Taylor’s may be known for their donuts, but they’re cakes are just as good. I ordered my son’s First Communion cake online (easy, quick) and it was ready when I requested. We are the couple who ate our wedding cake topper the weekend after our wedding. We didn’t freeze it and wait to eat it on our first anniversary. But we did make it a tradition to buy an 8″ wedding cake every year to eat on our anniversary. A few years ago our caterer stopped selling wedding cakes, and that’s when we found Taylor’s Bakery. This is our 3rd or 4th year buying our anniversary wedding cake from Taylor’s, and every year we have an amazing experience with them. I always call them to order it, and they are so accommodating and friendly. I don’t know if they have an online ordering option, but if they don’t, they should. Don’t get me started on how magnificent their cakes are. Sublime would be a good word for them. Heavenly. I have been to of the great bakeries in Indianapolis, and Taylor’s is still at the top of my list. We will use them as long as they stay in business or until both of us are dead!

I really enjoyed my visit to cake bake for the most part. I love the aesthetic of the place. It’s so whimsical and fun. I’d just go back for that alone. I got the blueberry lemon cake while I was there. It was not my style of cake and your definitely playing for the novelty. I thought the crumb of the cake was alittle mealy and the I icying was really heavy. That being said it probably was just not made for my taste and I’m sure many others love that style of cake. Overall tho it was a pleasant visit and when I go again I’ll try another style of cake.

I decided to visit The Cake Bake Shop for the first time during a weekend trip to Indianapolis. As a big fan of sweet treats and desserts, I was excited to finally try this place.
My partner and I arrived earlier than expected, so we called to adjust our reservation. The restaurant was very accommodating, which we appreciated. Upon entering, I was immediately struck by how beautiful and sparkly everything was! The aesthetic is perfect for anyone who loves pink, florals, and a touch of glam.
As for the food, I wasn’t particularly impressed. We ordered the Lemon Caesar Salad and the Half Turkey & Gruyère Sandwich—both were fine but nothing special or memorable. That didn’t surprise me too much, though, since I had already assumed the desserts would be the real highlight. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. We ordered the Red Velvet Cake, and it was so underwhelming. Neither my partner nor I enjoyed it—the cake wasn’t very moist or sweet, and the frosting was plain and almost flavorless.
Overall, I’d only recommend this place if you’re looking for a visually stunning experience. The ambiance is gorgeous, and the service was good, but for the price, the food quality just doesn’t match up.

We have been going to this Cake Bake shop for years. We just held my daughter’s bridal shower here and it could not have been more perfect! The attention to detail and everyone helping was top notch. It made her day so special. Extra thanks to our server, I believe her name was Nolan. She was great and seemed so genuine and excited for the bride!

Me and my friends have been going to both cake bake locations for few years to celebrate our birthdays! We prefer this location over the Carmel because the service is much more personal and nicer and even the cake is more moist! My friends actually got the lil dragon brought out to her and glitter put in her hair with a candle in her cake. It was a complete surprise and this was the first time this has happened. Last year we went to the Carmel location to celebrate and not even a candle happens. 10/10 recommend this location!!

Leviathan Bakehouse offers a thoughtful lineup of pastries and breads that balance bold flavors with comforting textures. The crusts crackle, the fillings feel handmade, and the aroma welcomes you before you even approach the counter. The staff are friendly and efficient, guiding choices with a warm, unobtrusive charm. I especially appreciated the seasonal tarts and the rustic sourdough, which pair beautifully with a smooth, well-balanced coffee. Quality and attention to detail shine throughout the visit.
Even on a busy morning, Leviathan Bakehouse keeps lines friendly and moves with practical efficiency. The pastry selection feels inventive yet approachable, from almond croissants to sea-salt caramel buns, each item arriving warm and aromatic. I left with a light, satisfying lunch and a commitment to return. If you value consistency, craft, and thoughtful service, you’ll find this spot earns repeat visits.

An amazing bakery with beautiful pastries. The staff are super friendly and polite. Service was great. I tried the LVTHN BLT – the balsamic onion and the bread complimented very well. Coffee was decent. Would highly recommend. There is street parking and parking by the side street.

This place is always busy when I come here. AND all of the good stuff is always sold out. I am not an early riser, so it makes sense that all of the good pastries are sold out when I get there at noon on a Sunday. I did stop by on a random weekday and tried the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were incredible. While I wasn’t a big fan of the gravy… that is just me. Other people probably like it. It was good but honestly I was expecting a little more. But that doesn’t take away from the amazing pastries, beautiful ambiance and chill vibes of this place. I look forward to trying a breakfast sandwich next time.

Liiiiisten baaaaby let me tell you. I have droooooled over these online. I have saved videos for years watching people make a strawberry homemade croissant… I thought I had to go out of town somewhere to find these treats!! However This bakery was twenty blocks from my old house I just moved out of. I have driven by daily and never stopped. I found them on an app and these were a part of a mystery bag! To my surprise all of these treats were bagged when I arrived.
You could have knocked me over with a feather and it took the great restraint to finish my errands and get home to take pics. When I cut it open and saw the filling, I am sure I looked like a cartoon character with my eyes popping out. That was what appeared to be a cheesecake flavored fillings that was sweet and creamy, paired with a homemade strawberry puree that was a touch of sweet and tart so it wasn’t overwhelming but super intense flavor straight from heavens gates!
These were light and fluffy inside, crisp and flavorful outside. These are dangerous once you have one you will fall in love and want to go back daily, glad I live 30 minutes away from them now. I’ll be back soon enough when I need another treat! I can’t stop showing and telling people about these and the bakery!! The baguette was crisp and almost chewy inside. The other doughnut was a bit thick on the dough but it was tasty. These were literally the items I wanted when I peeked at the website so to my suprise they were both here and some bread, yes please French bread pizzas it is! Thank you for being amazing. I’ll be back soon to get one of my new favorites the strawberry croissant! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

They have the best Pain Au Chocolat I ever tasted. It was so flakey, chocolate was decadent and rich, just look at the layers.
I also ordered brown butter chocolate chip cookie, it was mildly sweet and not very chewy. They have a both indoor and outdoor seating which makes it a perfect brunch spot.

I’ve review a bunch of coffee shops. It’s kinda my thing when traveling. This place has the best iced vanilla latte I’ve ever had. The best. The food options and bakery options are top notch. I can see why it was busy. When traveling to Indy this will become a pit stop for sure.

I’m not sure how I haven’t left a review sooner, because I loooooove Leviathan!
Truly a favorite neighborhood gem. I’ve done both dine-in and takeout, and everything has been wonderful anytime I do either option.
I’m a big fan of their London Fogs & chai lattes when I don’t want coffee, and the strawberry hibiscus iced tea is fantastic for the summer!! Highly recommend trying the original croissant breakfast sandwich or a slice of quiche if you’re feeling brunchy, or the Leviathan TBA for lunch. The chocolate croissants are also the best around!

Their chocolate croissant just sent reverberations of sensory pleasure from my taste buds to all throughout my body. I feel reborn, as if nothing could bring me down from this new height of crispy airy chocolate deliciousness I’ve just experienced. If man can walk on the moon, and if Leviathan can execute a difficult recipe such as this so flawlessly, maybe there is hope for humanity after all.

Overall they are a wonderful bakery but I was given the most horribly presented cake ever for a BABY SHOWER and even if it wasn’t for a baby shower it was horrible to even be used as a birthday cake.

Stopped in to grab a dozen donuts for our customers, but ended up with even more. The blueberry donut holes are the BEST!
Don’t forget to try the thumbprint cookies as well. Everything we tried was great and our customers loved the donuts.

When I took these doughnuts in for my students on the west side they always said yes, he brought in the good doughnuts. Their blueberry cake are the best in the city, their toffee cookies are too die for. Been going there for 28 years and I’ll go there for as long as I can.

They have almost everything you need and more here. I always love myself good tamales and this place doesn’t disappoint. All you have to do is take a tray and get what you need. I was a little intimidated at first because not all baked goods have signs and prices but we walked away with 6 tamales and 8 baked goods with total less than $20. Staff and owner walked around and make sure we have questions answered. Everything tasted so good and I will def come back for more!

Their pastries are delicious! Always made fresh daily. Huge variety of pastries and cookies!
These took a hit during transportation home. But it doesn’t change the flavor. The Bavarian creme pastry has smooth and creamy flavor while not being overly sweet. These donuts are huge compared to name brand donut places. The churros are filled with a raspberry jam (or what I believe is jam). Slightly tart but that what I want in a raspberry jam. The Danish has a glaze that gives the pastry a sweetness to satisfy any sweet tooth. And the cannoli has a sweet cream filling with each end being dipped chopped pecans topped with chocolate sauce. The cannoli itself is crisp. Great contrast of texture. Prices are very reasonable. They also sell cakes, which I look forward to trying someday.

Frequently asked questions about bakeries in Indianapolis
What types of baked goods are most popular in Indianapolis bakeries?
In Indianapolis, shoppers seek a broad range of products, including sourdough bread, artisan croissants, donuts, pies, and cookies. Many bakeries feature seasonal pastries that highlight Indiana produce, such as fruit-topped tarts or squash-based desserts in fall. The most popular items often include freshly baked loaves, flaky pastries, and specialty items like cream puffs or bakery-cakes designed for celebrations. Customers also look for clear labeling of gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options when available. Weekends often bring a surge of demand for baked goods perfect for gifts and gatherings.
How can I find a bakery in Indianapolis that fits my dietary needs?
To find a bakery that accommodates specific diets in Indianapolis, start by checking for gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, or vegan options on the bakery’s menu or website. It’s helpful to call ahead and ask about cross-contact practices and dedicated equipment. Look for shops that clearly label allergens on each item and offer certified or clearly stated ingredients when possible. If you have severe allergies, consider visiting in person to discuss ingredient sourcing and kitchen practices with staff. Reading customer reviews can reveal how well a bakery communicates about dietary needs and substitutions.
What should I expect when I visit a bakery in Indianapolis?
When you arrive at a bakery, you’ll typically find a counter with a display of fresh pastries and breads, with staff ready to take orders. Expect a quick ordering process, a friendly staff, and options to sample small bites in some shops. Many bakeries offer coffee or beverages to pair with your selections, and you may have the chance to watch bakers at work during peak times. It’s common to pay at the counter and receive a to-go bag or a box for celebration items. Some shops provide seating, which makes it easy to enjoy a treat on-site if space allows.
When is the best time to visit for fresh selection?
For the broadest selection of freshly baked items, aim to visit in the early morning hours, soon after the doors open. Breads and croissants are often at their best shortly after baking, while delicate pastries may be restocked mid-morning or late afternoon. If you’re after limited-edition or seasonal items, visiting on a weekday can mean less crowding and more access to specialty flavors. Some bakeries publish daily schedules or social media updates to alert customers when new items arrive.
Do Indianapolis bakeries offer custom cakes or celebration desserts?
Many bakeries in Indianapolis do offer custom cakes and other celebration desserts, including fondant and buttercream designs. Place orders well in advance, as custom work requires planning, flavors, and decorating time. Design consultations may be available in-store or by appointment, and most shops require a deposit and a clear final headcount or design details. It’s helpful to bring references or sketches and to discuss any allergies or dietary restrictions during the planning stage.
Are there bakeries in Indianapolis that focus on local or seasonal ingredients?
Yes, many Indianapolis bakeries emphasize Indiana-grown produce and local suppliers, which can influence the daily menu. Seasonal ingredients often appear in pies, tarts, and pastry fillings, and some shops offer collaborations with nearby farms or farmers’ markets. Shopping locally not only supports the community but also provides opportunities to try unique flavors tied to the region and harvest cycles. If you value sustainability, ask about local sourcing practices and the farm partners used by the bakery.
How much should I tip at a bakery?
Tipping at bakeries varies, but for counter-service purchases, tips are typically not required and appreciated if the service is exceptional. For items that require extra handling, custom orders, or catering deliveries, you may consider a modest tip or a round-up to the nearest dollar. If a staff member provides specialized assistance or a delivery, a tip of 15-20% of the total is reasonable in many cases. Always check the bakery’s policy if a tip jar is present or if gratuities are included in the service charge.
Can I buy bread or pastries in bulk for events?
Bulk orders and event catering are common offerings at many Indianapolis bakeries. Shops can provide bread platters, pastry trays, and custom cakes for parties or corporate events. To ensure availability, place bulk orders with ample lead time and confirm quantities, flavors, and delivery or pickup arrangements. Some bakeries offer delivery services or pickup windows designed for event planning, making it easier to coordinate large orders.
What is the best way to store baked goods at home?
To keep baked goods fresh, store bread and pastries in a cool, dry place in a paper bag or airtight container for a short period. For longer storage, many items can be frozen or kept in the freezer after wrapping tightly. Reheat pastries briefly in a toaster oven to restore crispness, and warm breads in a conventional oven to revive aroma and texture. Avoid refrigerating items that may dry out quickly unless you plan to keep them for several days.
How do I report a problem with my bakery order?
If there is an issue with your order, contact the bakery’s customer service or the store manager as soon as possible. Provide your order number, a clear description of the problem, and any supporting details such as photos or receipts. Most shops are willing to offer a replacement, refund, or credit when appropriate. Clear and respectful communication helps resolve concerns efficiently and can improve future experiences for you and others.
