After our good girl Aerial passed away we began the search to replace the empty place in our hearts. We went to pet stores and the more we looked the more angry we became. Over priced puppy mill dogs. We searched the pound with no luck and finally went to Indy Humane. We were looking at the available dogs and we both saw this beautiful young female. Unlike many we looked at this dog didn't bark or shy away but rather see walked up to the gate and kissed my hand. That was it. We took her. She still has all that puppy energy and loves to zoom in the snow and she is learning not everything is to be chewed on and is content to disassembling her toys. She has been easy to house break and although the word NO has been a challenge she is slowly learning. She also has the greatest capacity to love. She is a joy to have. Thank you Indy Humane. We have a new baby girl to spoil. We have accepted the fact that part of the couch now belongs to her. So far she is a joy.
…i got my sammie (previously known as clarence) from here- he was the most gentle giant- i care for two community cats so at first it was so challenging, lol- almost thought I couldn’t figure out them bonding- "but" tonsss of toys, a huge cat tree house, and love alongside patience made it work- sammie is family- for life ❤️ thank you.
Love this place. You might have to wait to get your foster cat or dog in to be adopted, but they are great people. Please donate if you can. The animals here are loved and very well cared for. With the staffs witty adoption blog and skilled care my foster baby was adopted quickly. If your looking for a fur baby this is the place. Lots of loving animals are waiting for a home and the staff at Indy Humane make sure they are happy and healthy till then.
I DO NOT recommend for taking an animal who needs an immediate home ! I brought a dog here in need of a home. She was not stolen. Simply just without a home. The woman who "helped" me wasn’t helpful AT ALL !! She didn’t seem like she cared much. Or maybe she’s just not good at her job for this particular need. We rang the doorbell to be helped. She opened the door (while I’m holding the dog) and had us standing out there (thank goodness the weather was nice today), and said she’s waiting for her "supervisors reply" before letting us in. She finally let us in to sit down. Then told us to fill out something connected to a QR code. We did that, and then a message popped up saying they didn’t have room for the dog. Understandable. But how this was handled was VERY POOR ! There was no real effort to provide other resources. I tried asking for some water and food for the dog while we waited to figure out what to do next. Then the lady told my girlfriend they wanted to scan the dog and make sure he wasn’t stolen, BEFORE giving supplies. I wonder if we were WHITE if this whole situation would’ve gone differently. If it’s not about race then the woman just didn’t seem to care enough for a so called animal shelter !!! Either way .. I WILL NOT be recommending this place to anyone for anything!
Today my little meow had her first appointment to get vaccines at the vaccine clinic. I am so happy there is an option to get vaccines that do not cost hundreds and hundreds! With the buy one get one free deal, Rosie got her shots for $22 instead of the $300 from her vet! All of the staff is so nice, educated, and just you can tell that they love their jobs and all of the animals. We will be back next year for shots. I will be recommending to everyone!
I come to the humane society to give some love and to receive some in return. I visit the kittens and cats. Maybe I’ll adopt one some time soon. I had to let my cat of 17 yrs old go to the rainbow bridge in June. I adopted her from this humane society when she was 7 months old. She was the best! She was my heart. Maybe I’ll find another here some time soon.
I love volunteering here and even ended up getting a cat too! The volunteer coordinator Sara is wonderful and did a great job at the orientation. They do a great job with training and the system makes it convenient. The facility is wonderful and they take great care of the animals. I love my cat that I got and the process was great! They have so much advice and material for taking care of her!
