Great bikes. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. BGI is so easy to work with. I live an hour away, so I was able to buy my bike over the phone during their tent sale. They held it over the weekend until I could drive down to pick it up. I test rode it, got all my questions answered, and I was on my way. Great experience all around!

I’m a beginner in road biking and bought my first used bike in March 2025. At the time, I had no idea what to choose, but the staff were incredibly helpful and guided me through the process. I quickly fell in love with endurance sports, and just five months later, I traded in that first bike for a better one. They’ve treated me really well throughout, and I’m very happy with my second bike too.

Excellent local bike shop. First they have tons of bikes on hand for sale that lets you try them out before purchasing. That, and everything on hand for bike maintenance. Second, they have every accessory you’ll need for your cycling adventures. But mostly, they have an excellent shop that is fast and friendly.

Auston is the best! I first met him at a different store, and ever since then he has consistently gone above and beyond to help. He’s made getting into this hobby so much easier by taking the time to answer my questions, guide me through different options, and even help fine-tune my setup. His knowledge, patience, and genuine willingness to help make all the difference. Couldn’t be happier with the experience!

Had such a great experience at BGI buying our first road bike. Clay helped us out and guided us through every step in the process – showing us how to use the bike, things to consider and ensuring we were knowledgeable and happy with our purchase. Felt very lucky to have him assist us and will definitely return as our bike journey continues. Would absolutely recommend BGI for bikers at all levels.

BGI North is a great place to find the perfect bike for your needs. The only thing better than their immense inventory is the sales staff! Todd went above and beyond to ensure I was completely satisfied with my bike purchase. I was also assisted by Patrick who was very knowledgeable and upfront about the models we looked at. Overall I am extremely pleased with my experience at BGI North, I will be returning for all future bike purchases!

I’ve been looking at getting a nice full suspension mountain bike for a while. My local bike store did not have much inventory at all, and nothing close to what I was looking for. So went to check this bike store out. They had a very large store with a lot of inventory to choose from. I found several mountain bikes that were nice. They let me take one out for a quick test ride, and absolutely fell in love with this electric full suspension mountain bike. I definitely plan on going back to find a bike for my little girl, as soon as she outgrows the one she’s on. I would recommend anyone in central indiana stop in at this bike store before making a purchase somewhere else.

Was skeptical when my buddy told me he booked this for his birthday, the whole concept just seemed kind of odd and not what we usually went out to do. We’re more of a bar hopping, top golf, concert kind of group. I could not have been more wrong!!!

This was an awesome experience, our driver, Grant, was super awesome. You could tell he enjoyed doing what he does and created a great atmosphere from the second we showed up. We were able to play our own music, Grant gave us a drinking game to play throughout the ride, and made a few stops at a couple of bars he recommended.

Could not have been more happy with the experience, all of our group kept mentioning how much fun it was and we really enjoyed ourselves. It was a great time especially thanks to our driver, he sealed the deal. Super down to earth, did his job amazingly well, and made us feel right at home!! Met who was either the owner operator or manager when we got back and he was just as great of a guy from the short chat we had. Thank you Grant and the others at pickle for the most fun we’ve had in quite a while without a doubt

10/10 would recommend and we will hopefully be back in the near future. Thanks again especially to Grant for being such a fun and welcoming host, be safe, and keep being awesome!

Great local, long time, shop. Mike is such a professional guy, knows his bikes and has decades of experience but more importantly, honest. I feel like he gave a fair deal on my trade(s) and I got the great bike I was after.

I cannot stress enough how amazing Mike is and the entire staff at Matthew’s. We have been buying bikes from them for decades. Buying a brand new bike can be a little overwhelming, and the staff not only makes it easy, but will nerd out with you if you love to talk about gear and parts. Mike was so helpful, answered all my questions and took the time (as always) to make sure my first road bike fit perfectly to ensure it was comfortable on Day 1. Thank you Mike!!

Mike Dowling was perfect to work with. I came in to look, with a bit of a budget in mind, with only a vague idea of what I wanted. You work with the pros and they’ll get you what you want, but Mike got it for me at a price right where I had planned. No pressure whatsoever, besides knowing you can’t pass up a good deal. What a great repair, and at a reasonable price!

I developed a loud creak in the bottom bracket of my 30 year old mountain bike.

I brought it to the Bike Line and they quickly diagnosed the issue, and were very friendly while doing so!

They treated me like an old friend, and they treated my bike as if it were their own.

The repair was completed quicker than I expected, and for what I consider to be a very reasonable price.

I wish I had brought my bike to them sooner. It is now quieter and smoother than it has ever been.

There seems to be absolutely no friction anywhere in the drive train.

It really is better now than it was when it was new. Amazing.

Everyone I dealt with was knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you Bike Line!

My wife loves this place. Admittedly, I don’t have the same attachment, but they’ve never done me wrong. Always polite, professional, efficient and competent. Prices are a bit high, but it’s a bike shop in Broad Ripple. I’m surprised it’s not higher. Trust them with your bike, they’ll do good work

Very good experience. Went in with an unknown problem. I explained what the bike was doing, they examined the bike, and took it for a test ride. They had diagnosed the problem possible with the chain. Although they were willing too do the work, they suggested it may be a self fix and save some money on a DIY. Well they were right. It was a chain issue that I was able to fix in about 10 minutes.
Thanks Bike Line for your help and the no cost diagnosis.

We purchased a new Trek bike for my wife here two years ago and since then our experiences have been very disappointing. The few times weve brought the bike in for servicing, something that we needed done had always been forgotten.

Two weeks ago we brought her bike in to have a bent rotor replaced and a few other additions. My wife called in and paid and then when I arrived to pick up the bike there was great confusion as to whether my wife’s payment had “gone through” . After 10 minutes I paid again so I could finally leave the store.

Two days later she started to ride the bike for the first time only to find that the rotor was still bent . We immediately went back to the shop and the first attendant agreed to quickly replace it again for free. While I was waiting for the repair to be completed an older male employee walked over and angrily got in my face and shouted that the rotor was not bent when the bike left the store two days ago. I was stunned. He was shaking and angry and loud and the whole tantrum was totally inappropriate. His face was red and he was shaking and I worried that he might get violent. I took offense at his accusations and aggressive behavior and the whole thing escalated into a shouting match between me and three of their employees. At one pont, they placed my wife’s bike in the parking lot minus the whole front tire and refused to do anything. . A younger more mature employee and my wife finally calmed things down and they did end up replacing the rotor for free.

I’m a business owner in my 60s and i have never been treated so inappropriately in a retail establishment. If you shop there beware of the older guy with the anger problem and be prepared for a fight if you question any of their work.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the Best Experiences I’ve Ever Had!

We recently participated in a team scavenger hunt with Pedego Electric Bikes Indy and it was an absolute blast! As someone who hadn’t ridden a bike in over 20 years, I was a little nervous — but the electric bikes were incredibly easy to maneuver and so much fun to ride!

Scot and Cathy, the wonderful owners, made the entire experience smooth, welcoming, and memorable. Their kindness and passion for what they do really shines through. I’m new to Indy, so solving the clues and discovering local landmarks added an extra layer of excitement. Chatting with Scot and Cathy to see if we guessed correctly made our victories even sweeter!

And of course, I can’t forget the real stars of the show — Hamilton and Schuyler, the adorable “employees of the month,” who greeted us with wagging tails and made us feel right at home.

I may be a little biased (our team did win, after all ), but this was hands down one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, I highly recommend checking them out. Pedego Indy is an absolute gem!

First time to Indianapolis. We own 2 Pedegos so familiar with excellent brand quality and ride experience. Rented 2 Pedego e-bikes, and also “rented” Scot, who gave us a wonderful personalized tour of Indianapolis, then we spent time on our own on Monon Trail. Never realized how much history there is to Indianapolis – and so many stories to hear. Cathy was wonderful in helping to set everything up. Plus an added bonus, we got to feed and pet their two dogs! Great bikes, great tour, great people. Check ‘em out!

As a team building exercise, my company did the Pedego Pursuit. I cannot say enough great things about the experience! We had so much fun riding through the city on the Cultural Trail and finding all the answers to the clues. It was a great way to get out in the city and remember all the cool things there are in Indy while riding in style. Once our ride was over, none of our team wanted to get off our bikes, we wanted to keep riding! It was truly such a wonderful experience and we can’t thank Scot and Cathy enough! 10 out of 10!!

I enjoyed a great afternoon with colleagues on a guided e-bike tour! The owner, Scott, was our tour guide and did an amazing job teaching us the basics of riding electric bicycles and leading us through hidden gems of downtown Indy. We learned so much about our city and were impressed at how fast time flew! 2 hours with a brewery stop was perfect.

In addition to guided tours, they offer individual bicycle rentals with maps of the cultural trail provided, fun corporate events, and retail. There are 4 bike style options and rentals include helmet, smartphone mount, and attached storage pack for wallet, beverages, etc. The tour definitely surpassed my expectations!

If I could give this Pedego 1000 stars I would. Have you ever had an experience so amazing that it literally changes your life? Scot, Cathy and their brand new Pedego Indy in the Bottleworks district did just that for my husband and I. We came to their recent opening and talked to Scot about getting a tandem bike, my husband unexpectedly lost his sight in February of this year and with it all of our favorite activities slipped away. We thought if we could get a tandem bike we could bring back our ability to ride together. My husband could feel the wind in his hair again and we could find some joy and freedom together. Scot let me know they didn’t have one in stock but he would do his best to find us a tandem and he reached out the next week to let us know he found one in St. Louis! His mechanic went and picked it up for us brought it back and got it all set up in just a little over a day! We were able to pick it up and get it for the long Labor Day weekend. I had never ridden a tandem but Scots mechanic has lots of experience with tandems and taught us how to ride before we took off down the Monon. Everything about our experience was beyond outstanding! You may not need this type of support but knowing that Scot, his wife Cathy and their mechanic all care this much about one customer you can rest assured you will be taken care of and you are supporting a business that cares about its customers. Our first ride was amazing! Pedego bikes are high quality and gave us such a smooth ride we felt free and laughed and talked about all of the places we are excited to go now that we can ride together again. If you have been thinking about getting an e-bike do it now and make sure it’s a Pedego!

Ok, BGI, your counter guy could not have been more insulting. That left-over counter / manager from the previous shop has not changed his rude disposition. BGI greenwood – never had a bad experience. Went today to check out the sale, and buy an electric bike, but the moronic, anti-salesmanship of the guy behind the counter with the flowered shirt motivated us to walk out. “Sure, maybe $20 bucks for the trade-in” – really?? In front of everyone? I knew the value of the bike but my wife loved it and didn’t need to hear your pompous comment. Probably just setting expectations, right? Plenty of other comments could have been found by a competent and people-oriented employee. Our sales guy was nice and friendly, though. Two stars awarded for the nice guy and the guys hard at work fixing bikes, to be fair. Won’t be back.

I wish I would have gotten everyone’s names who helped me today. Came in to get two bicycles fixed. From the beginning every person I came in contact with was friendly and so helpful. They fixed both bikes very quickly and the price was way lower than I thought it would have been. I honestly don’t think the experience could have been better. This place is amazing and professional, if you need a bike or need something repaired, they are awesome!

I stopped by around 6 pm yesterday evening, there were 2 or 3 customers being helped. Looked like 2 guys buying some repair parts and not sure about the others. I was interested in more information and looking into a Specialized EPIC 8 Comp I have been looking at through the Specialized website. I walked around for about 15 minutes or more while others were being helped. I was never acknowledged or asked if I had any questions or needed assistance. One or two people stood behind the counter talking about reasons they don’t do daily transfers yet never gave me the time of day. I use to be in the Bicycle Industry and continue to work in various types of Sales and Customer Service and this opportunity lost is not acceptable in any market. I left and will not return. I doubt this is the normal expectation but if it happened to me it will happen again. Time to look to do better for the next person looking to spend money.

Never disappointed with Bicycle Garage on Southport Road. Ben ordered new grips which didn’t end of fitting with my mirror. When the mirror didn’t work Luke replaced my handle bars and added a new mirror which fit my new grips all free of charge ~ no questions asked. I think Ben may have even smiled once! 🙂

Highly recommend using Pink Pony vs other bike companies. Jon made the night so much more fun. You pick the music and he sets the vibes. He gets down with the whole group and makes sure that everyone is having the best possible time. He is super interactive and gets the outside crowd involved too. You will truly feel like the ultimate VIP on your ride. You are in for an incredible night filled with a great time if you choose Pink Pony.

Used Indiana Pacers Bikeshare to explore downtown Indianapolis in August. There was light rain with an overcast during my ride but I still had fun exploring downtown Indianapolis by bike. I rode along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail to see key places of interest.

I used the Pacers Bikeshare Bcycle app to check out a bike and find stations to return the bike. The bikes I rode were in good condition.

I love using the ride share program! It’s inexpensive, easy and convenient! There are 50 stations in total, all located near the Cultural trail. Indy is a great city to experience from a bike-seat! So fun. On some bikes, they even provide some storage options. Maximum weights do apply on the storage options on each bike. If it’s your first time and you have a vehicle, I recommend parking near the station you wish to start near. There happen to be parks with parking option or side street (free) parking near most stations. Enjoy!

I thought at first it was a pretty sweet deal . The kiosk read eight dollars for 24 hours. A week later my credit card statement said it was charged eight dollars and an additional $34 for the rental . BULLSHIT! somebody is getting rich and lying at the same time . You would think that the city of Indianapolis and the Pacers would be honest about things like that before they put their name on them, not so in this case. The best part about the whole experience was probably the actual bicycle . It seemed to be very well-built from a cyclist point of view . Either way though had I have known it was going to cost me $42 for five hours I definitely would not have done it

Great service for convenient downtown transportation. I rented a bike for $8 for 24 hours and used the bike twice that day. I was charged $134 a couple days later for usage fees and was very confused. I called and Joshua was very helpful. He researched my account and quickly corrected and refunded the charge. I gave him the locations of where I docked the bikes and he said it may have been that the bike docked, but the 3 beeps from the machine may not have went off. Long story short, save yourself some time and trouble and make sure the bike gives 3 beeps after you dock it. Also any trip over 30 minutes will accrue extra usage fees.

The time should be extended. It took the 30 minutes trying to find another station. When I called customer service the lady acted like she knew nothing about the serives. She was rude and seemed she had better things to do. I will tell my friends and family it is not worth it. Never will I use this service again. I didn’t even get to enjoy downtown without worrying about time.

The Bikeshare Stations charge OUTRAGEOUS FEES if you do not check them in every 30 minutes!! The kiosk says “$8 for 24 hours” however I was charged $120 for having the bike checked out for 12 hours. Do not fall victim to this scam!!

It’s an awesome idea but having to check in every 30 minutes is unrealistic. I got caught in a pouring rain and had to duck for 4 plus hours. Doesn’t seem fair to get charged for not wanting to get soaking wet trying to return the bike in time. Please change to at least an hour. 30 minutes isn’t close to enough time to run one errand and get it returned in the 30 minute time frame.

Used the app and was able to quickly unlock two bikes. Used for about 70 minutes and was billed correctly at $11.50/bike. This was less expensive than renting a bike at the canal (unless you plan on riding for 3 or 4 hours) and there are a lot of drop off points. The 8 mile trail around town is flat and wide and we felt safe in all the areas. After docking, we got a message that the bikes were returned. Note that many of the bad reviews about the app were for other cities not Indy. Bikes are 3 speeds which is all you need for this trail.

Indianapolis was supposed to have an easy and fair bike share. Turns out they have changed the way they operate. No more day or week passes for people from out of town to be able to use it within a reasonable price. Now it’s $0.15 per minute plus $1 for every time you pick the bike up. So an hour is $10. Not too bad if that’s all you need it for, but if you come to town for the purpose of checking out the bike infrastructure then you’re out of luck and that can get fairly expensive. Basically it is bikeshare that is only good for residents.

Terrible experience – family of four having to check in every 30 minutes is unreasonable. We ended up returning them at the first check in, basically paying $32 for 20 minutes of riding. There were no slots to return a bike; luckily an employee showed up to pick up 8 bikes, or we would’ve been charged late fees on all of them. Not worth the hassle/panic of meeting the check-ins. Great idea, but not in practice. They should at least extend the check-ins to an hour.

I had a wonderful time riding around downtown. The process of checking the bike in an out is simple. It’s very helpful that you get a message letting you know when the bike is being returned. This helps avoid any late charges. If your downtown and want to enjoy a tour I suggest you to rent one.

I love Pacers Bike Share and use it daily for my commute.

To clarify for some of the other reviewers, this is bike SHARE not bike rental. You can check the bikes out for up to 30 minutes an unlimited number of times during your pass period (day, month, year). If you need a bike continually for the whole day, there are a number of bike RENTAL places around such as BGI at City Market YMCA.

    Consultations and Legal Advice

Civil attorneys in Indianapolis can provide thorough consultations and legal advice to assess a case's facts, identify applicable laws, and outline potential strategies. They examine rental terms, liability waivers, and safety policies to determine enforceability and risk allocation. These consultations often cover issues arising from equipment maintenance failures, accident scenarios, and insurance coverage. Clients gain clarity on their rights, timelines, and the likely outcomes of different approaches. Each session aims to translate complex legal language into practical steps, helping stakeholders make informed decisions. In addition, case evaluation helps prioritize actions and estimate potential costs and recovery options.

    Contract Drafting and Review

When rental terms require precision, civil attorneys can assist with contract drafting and review to ensure clarity and fairness. They tailor agreements to address hazard allocation, rental durations, and deposit policies. They scrutinize language around damages and liability waivers, ensuring enforceability under Indiana law and municipal guidelines. They can propose contingencies for weather disruptions, equipment malfunctions, and reservation changes. This service helps prevent disputes by making expectations explicit and legally sound. They also help draft privacy policies and data collection terms relevant to customer information.

    Dispute Resolution and Mediation

Many conflicts within bike rental ecosystems can be resolved through dispute resolution and mediation before litigation. Civil attorneys in Indianapolis facilitate negotiations between operators, customers, and partners, aiming for mutual agreements that protect core interests. They prepare mediation briefs, present positions, and explore alternative dispute resolution options. When necessary, they can outline procedural steps for arbitration or court action, ensuring readiness and proper documentation. The goal is to reduce costs, shorten timelines, and preserve business relationships where possible.

    Personal Injury and Civil Claims

Injuries may occur during bike rental activities due to falls, collisions, or equipment failures. Civil attorneys can handle personal injury and civil claims, seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. They investigate incident reports, collect evidence from the scene, and coordinate with experts to establish liability. They evaluate whether there is negligence, product liability in rented equipment, or potential premises liability issues. Clients receive guidance on settlement options, insurance coverage, and, if needed, pursuing court remedies through legal action.

    Property and Real Estate Law

Property and real estate matters intersect with bike rental operations in areas like commercial leases, site access, and space utilization. Civil attorneys help interpret lease provisions, negotiate amendments, and resolve ownership and access disputes. They address issues involving zoning compliance, landlord-tenant relations, and equipment storage agreements. This support ensures that operators can plan expansions, relocate docks, or renegotiate terms with property owners while maintaining compliance with local regulations.

    Employment and Labor Law

Operators rely on staff who understand safety, customer service, and compliance. Civil attorneys explain and enforce employment and labor laws, including classification of workers, wage and hour rules, and workplace safety standards. They handle matters related to hiring practices, employee contracts, and dispute resolution with personnel. They can also advise on discrimination and harassment policies, leaving workplaces better prepared for audits and investigations. Through proactive counsel, they help reduce risk and improve operational stability.

    Regulatory Compliance and Licensing

Bike rental businesses must navigate a complex landscape of regulatory compliance and licensing. Civil attorneys in Indianapolis help interpret city ordinances, state laws, and federal requirements affecting transportation, safety, and consumer protection. They advise on licensing applications, inspections, and ongoing compliance programs that cover helmet laws, advertising disclosures, and data privacy. They also assist with responding to audits, handling enforcement actions, and implementing changes to align with evolving regulations. This guidance supports sustainable operations and minimizes legal exposure.

Insurance, Risk Management, and Preventive Counseling

Insurance considerations are critical for bike rental ventures. Civil attorneys provide insurance guidance, assist in selecting appropriate coverage, and help design risk management programs to reduce incident frequency. They review policy language around liability limits, indemnity clauses, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage when relevant. Preventive counseling emphasizes safety training, incident reporting protocols, and claims prevention strategies. This proactive approach helps operators protect assets while delivering reliable services to customers.

Frequently asked questions about bike rentals in Indianapolis

What types of bikes are commonly available for rent in Indianapolis?

Common bike rentals include standard bicycles (cruisers and road bikes), electric bikes for pedal assist, and occasionally kid’s bikes or tandems. Some shops also offer comfort bikes with upright seating and wider saddles to suit casual riders. When selecting a bike, consider your route, distance, and comfort level.

What are the typical age and identification requirements?

Most rental shops require renters to be at least 18 years old and to present a valid photo ID. A credit card may be used for the rental agreement and a security hold. Always check the shop’s policy before you arrive, as requirements can vary by business and location within the city.

Is a helmet required or recommended for riders?

Helmets are strongly recommended for all riders, and some shops include a helmet with the rental. Indiana law does not universally require helmets for adults, but local ordinances or age-based rules may apply. Always wear a properly fitted helmet and follow safety guidelines while riding.

What do I need to know about deposits and payments?

Most shops request a credit card hold or a cash deposit to cover potential damage or late returns. The deposit amount varies by shop and bike type. Payment is typically due at pickup and may be charged when the bike is returned in good condition. Be sure to review the rental terms before signing.

How do I reserve a bike and what are typical rental hours?

Reservations can often be made through a shop’s online portal or by calling the shop directly. Average rental hours run from morning to evening, though some outlets offer extended hours on weekends or during peak seasons. If you have an itinerary, consider pre-reserving to ensure availability, especially on weekends.

What is the typical cost of a bike rental in Indianapolis?

Costs usually include a base hourly rate, a daily rate, or a combination. You may also encounter a security deposit, a delivery fee, and taxes. For longer rides, some shops offer discounted multi-hour or day bundles. Compare pricing and inclusions to avoid surprises.

Are there any extra charges I should know about?

Possible extras include a lock (if not included), a helmet rental, a trail map, or a delivery option. Late returns, damage to the bike, or loss of accessories can incur additional fees. Always review the terms of service for a clear understanding of potential charges.

What should I know about riding safely on Indianapolis streets and trails?

Know local traffic laws and follow bike traffic rules, including staying in designated lanes and using lights at night. Popular routes include the Monon Trail and paths near downtown. Wear visible clothing, carry a light if riding after sunset, and use a bike bell to alert pedestrians and other riders. Plan your route in advance and keep a map handy.

What is the difference between standard bikes and e-bikes available for rent?

E-bikes provide pedal-assist to make hills and longer distances easier. They are heavier and require more careful handling than traditional bicycles. Some shops restrict e-bike usage to riders above a certain age or require a brief instruction before use. Check battery life, charging time, and the maximum assisted speed for safe operation.

Can I rent bikes for groups, tours, or special events in Indianapolis?

Many shops offer group rentals, guided tours, or see-and-do itineraries around popular districts such as Downtown, Mass Ave, or Broad Ripple. For special events, confirm space availability and any required permits. Always coordinate with the rental provider for safety and compliance considerations.
