The oldest Catholic Church in Indianapolis…and a real beauty. If you like old school Catholic…organ music, lots of statues, people dressed respectfully (instead of looking like they stopped off on the way to the beach), then this place is for you.

My wife and I have made it a habit to attend Christmas Eve mass here and regrettably. We’ve been deeply disappointed the last two years. We both love the thundous sound of one of the finest pipe organs in Indiana, and they use it only sparingly.
We have also been deeply disappointed in the fact that while the topics for the homily on Christmas seem endless,
the pastor’s output is mediocre at best. Christmas offers a unique opportunity to touch the hearts of children and adults alike and yet somehow, the pastor manages to miss the target. We understand that the evening is to give thanks for our Savior’s birth and to celebrate his arrival. It’s just that such a revered evening, such an awesome facility and an enthusiastic crowd deserve better.

The greeter at the door was very nice and welcoming, I really appreciated that.

If you go to Confession here, be sure to be there no later than 11am. I arrived at 11:20 (it goes till 12pm on weeekdays) and waited in line for 40 minutes, I was next in line and then no, Father abruptly leaves. I know he needs to prepare for Mass, but perhaps he should not take insanely long with each penitent.

I had been struggling in my faith and this was to be my “coming home” confession, which turned out to be a disappointment. Just make sure to arrive very early for Confession.

I visited this parish briefly while passing through Indianapolis. I attended the Saturday Evening Mass. The Mass was one of the most beautiful I have ever attended! The music was beautiful, the homily was great, and the Church featured amazing artwork. I highly recommend this parish if you are looking for a Reverent Novus Ordo or Traditional Latin Mass in the Indianapolis area!

I was in town for the NEC, decided to attend this church because of the Tridentine mass. I went at 4:00 both days, and 6:30 am on the 21st. It is a great church, traditional, beautiful, and spaghetti dinner was available. It was packed full both days. I wish more parishes and bishops took an example from this parish, and could see the TLM’s beauty and how it unites the church.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) offered here. The liturgy was reverent, the church beautiful, and the sense of tradition deeply moving. Very reverent holy sacrifice of the mass at Holy Rosary church. Mass in Traditional Latin (four times each week, as of May 2025) as said by RC priests since St. Gregory in the 6th century. Reverent Novus Ordo mass in english and sometimes in latin. Pastor who cares about the souls of his flock. Stain glass windows from early 1900s and beautiful marble altar. Many large families with young and older children give it a feel of vibrancy.

I am not making my review about the church… it’s for the Italian food festival ! They claim that it is homemade.. it most def is not.. almost none of it. It’s all from vendors and big box stores which has been very disappointing in the last couple years at least. The same breadsticks come from turanos and the pizza made with flour tortillas.. none of this is homemade.. even the dressing on the salad is store bought and the bruschetta is just uncooked garlic bread w tomatoes.. and they didn’t even care to switch it out or anything and they KNEW it was bad smh. We won’t return next year and neither will our friends and family that came along w our companies . We won’t be back. It should be at least a little authentic.. but they have made it all about the money and no authenticity.

What this church does very well:
1. Outreach to Hispanic and LGBT communities.
2. Gorgeous services, CD-quality music from the choir every week.
3. Socially engaged with the community. (If you are a political or social conservative, you probably won’t like this church. Consider attending an ACNA church, instead.)
4. Not afraid to make political or social statements, based in Scripture (putting the Holy Family in a cage as a protest against the really cruel and inhumane policies of Donald Trump and Greg Abbott).
5. Summer strawberry festival. DO NOT MISS THIS IF YOU ARE IN INDY IN JUNE!!!

Where this church needs work:
1. Welcoming newcomers. I attended this church for six weeks and was not greeted one time during those six weeks, so eventually I left.
2. Cliques. There are strong cliques in play at this church. The parish as a whole needs to work on disengaging these cliques and making newcomers feel welcomed.

A great place full of diversity and wonderful worship and services. I do have a few issues with them, though. It seems as if they’re catering to what people want to hear more than what they need to hear. They teach me things that I could learn from a daily devotional, and oft times, they don’t even really go as deep as that. Sometimes the sermons seem like they should be directed more toward a children’s ministry. They don’t usually talk about sensitive subjects (hell, judgement, purity, holiness, etc.) and I think that’s primarily because people don’t want to hear The Truth, and if they were tell it completely and consistently, they would probably lose half of their congregation. They’re heavy on tithing and asking for money, which is understandable considering the size of the building and all the good things that they have there, but it gets to be a little much when they start passing around buckets. They do have a nice clothing boutique, and they help the community with food every Saturday morning. They do this thing called “at the movies” where they take secular movies and try to draw out spiritual truths from them. I understand the concept, but when they dressed up like Disney characters and had a movie about magic, and came out with an electric guitar jamming out when they did the Top Gun movie “sermon” I was disappointed that they were trying to reach the world by becoming more like the world, instead of just reading the word of God and letting it do its job. I prefer expository teaching, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, all the way through the Bible, teaching the whole council of God to equip the saints. You’re not going to get that here. It may be a good church for new believers or for making new converts, but if you want to grow in your walk and have close fellowship,
I don’t see that happening very easily here. It’s just too big of a church, the sermons are overly simplistic, and they don’t stress the importance of purity and repentance as much as they should. They do have smaller core groups, and they do suggest that the congregation should go to them and participate in a more intimate environment. They won’t lie or mislead you, as far as I’ve seen, but if you’re a mature or seasoned believer, this isn’t the place for you. It’s good for younger people, new Christians, or people who aren’t very far in their walk with Christ.

Danielle was the most rude and snobbiest person I’ve ever talked to out of a church! I was requesting to speak with the pastor for assistance but I also wanted prayer because of a situation that I’m going through she kept interrupting and disrespecting. You want to be disrespectful get out of the church scene and go be disrespectful somewhere else. And by the way you want to make assumptions of someone yelling I wasn’t yelling I uncovered my mic on my phone because I realized that my hand was over it you are a very judgemental and hateful individual. My voice is naturally high just an FYI Danielle.

I used to attend this church over 10 years ago as a student and a fairly new immigrant. I was always so blessed. One day, I got very depressed and thought it best to contact my church for counseling and guidance. When I called, there was an Asian lady(Indian maybe) who answered the phone. I asked if I could come and meet with a pastor. She asked me if I tithed and first searched my name in their database. This made me feel uncomfortable, any way I was scheduled eventually. When I came in physically and met her. She told me that they don’t give money if that’s what I wanted. My soul and spirit was crushed even more considering I was already broken and thought godly counseling might help. I wondered what she saw in me that she thought I was coming to ask for money. This experience has stayed with me for over 10 years and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope a lot of training has happened since then. I’m writing this to inform the church of my experience and hoping no one will ever encounter this. The pastors themselves (senior and another pastor) were very kind to me. They met with me individually and were welcoming , even blessed me with a boundaries book that I have to this date. Because of this I continued attending church until I moved out of state. I hope the lady in front desk received training and hopefully learned not to be judge mental and I hope this never happens to anyone.

We were looking for a new church and decided to check out TP downtown campus. Super cool building. Parking situation is a bit crazy. You walk in and everyone is friendly. Smoke machine is going full blast so the place looks pretty hazy before you even walk into the sanctuary.
Here’s where right away the red flag goes up. I meet the campus pastor and they take us over to the welcome table and we are handed welcome gifts. The gift is a gift card to the leviathan bakery and coffee. Why !? Why would you choose out of all places this place to promote. Leviathan is a powerful and demonic spirit that should not be praised, celebrated or promoted in a true biblical church.
There’s a whole lot of feel good message and not so much scripture in TP. Lots of smoke and mirrors. Not to the place for us

⛪️ Traders Point – Downtown

LOCATION – One of the prettiest evangelical church buildings I’ve seen live. Perfectly nestled in downtown Indy.

HOSPITALITY – They have the typical door greeters and things like that, but when I walked in I was approached by a man named Micah, and he spoke with me and shared his testimony and very much made me feel welcome.

WORSHIP – Worship was honest, high level of production, extremely talented & Exactly what you might expect of a church this size. Very well done.

WORD – 20 – 30 minute sermons / 3 point typically / Funny – utilizing story telling, parables and props as example for driving home the points. Used scripture as guide for lesson.

❤️ AUTHENTICITY – Felt very real, not like they were trying to be like anyone else.

Overall Thoughts – High recommend, would definitely return.

My wife and I have been members at faith for years and have really established a community where neither of us are from.

Very welcoming. I was greeted by many people and each was willing to have a conversation. Good biblical message. Hymns in the early service. Several members told me that after their first Sunday at Faith they stopped looking for a church. That says a lot!

A good-sized church (not so big you can’t know and connect easily with the pastors well, nor so small it’s “awkward”), this is a church that is serious about understanding the Scriptures deeply, about understanding that the Kingdom of God reaches all corners of the world, which includes people of diverse groups across the continents and a vast population of immigrants and refugees in its own neighborhood as well. People come from those neighborhoods and from all across greater Indianapolis for a reason…this is a unique place that is theologically serious and solid, is intellectually-challenging, but thoroughly comfortable and welcoming, and has a heart for justice and mercy. All ages “fit” here…rather rare today in the American church. Vibrant traditional worship and energetic contemporary worship co-exist happily because those who attend each see the bigger picture. Sunday adult classes are outstanding, with excellent teachers, and last only three months (not an “eternal commitment”). Amazing opportunities for kids to grow and flourish. Lots of opportunities to be connected or just to grow. The facility was just remodeled and seems to make a visit much easier.

Ian so excited to be in Faith Church. I love seeing everybody and it is a good feeling to give all glory and praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has brought me a long way since my time on the streets of Cali. I have my own apt. I also have a job that I love and look forward to helping as many people as I can. God bless faith church!!! Nice mix of conservative doctrine and informed, intentional service towards others. There are always missionaries visiting and reminding the church of a world-inclusive perspective. This church is home of one of the larger immigrant-focused English class programs in Central Indiana (about 10% of attendees volunteer in that ministry alone). Highly educated–enough to have an exclusive/inclusive faith–I sometimes joke you can’t throw a stone without hitting a doctor or a seminary graduate. Attendees homes are fairly spread out from Pendleton to W. 38th St.

Catalog of services offered by religious institutions in Indianapolis

    Governance, bylaws, and corporate structure

Civil attorneys can provide detailed guidance on governance frameworks for religious organizations in Indianapolis, including the creation and updating of bylaws and articles of incorporation. They help ensure that fiduciary duties are clearly defined for boards and officers, and that conflict of interest policies are in place to protect the integrity of decision-making. Attorneys can assist with board governance training, standard meeting protocols, and transparent record-keeping practices so that minutes, resolutions, and financial reports accurately reflect actions taken. They also review and refine internal control processes to support compliance with state nonprofit laws and to facilitate IRS compliance through proper documentation and reporting. By drafting comprehensive governance documents, they support long-term organizational stability and prevent common governance disputes. In addition, they help implement policies on governance continuity during leadership transitions and ensure alignment with charitable purposes and public accountability. Overall, these services contribute to a solid legal foundation that underpins the religious institution’s mission and operations.

Real estate, property acquisitions, and facilities management

Civil attorneys play a central role in real estate transactions for religious organizations, including acquisitions, sales, donations, and long-term leases. They assist with title reviews, due diligence, and the negotiation of favorable terms that protect opposed parties and the organization’s charitable purposes. Zoning, land use, and permits for construction or renovation are managed to ensure compliance with local ordinances and state regulations in Indiana. Attorneys help draft and review donor-restricted gift agreements and facility-sharing arrangements with partner congregations or community groups, clarifying usage, maintenance responsibilities, and insurance. They also navigate complex construction contracts, change orders, and compliance with environmental or accessibility standards, safeguarding the organization from unforeseen liabilities. When property issues arise, including easements or boundary disputes, civil lawyers provide clear resolutions and enforceable agreements. These services collectively support safe, efficient, and compliant facilities that serve congregants and the wider community.

Tax-exempt status, registrations, and ongoing compliance

Assistance with 501(c)(3) status and ongoing eligibility is a core function, including guidance on state charitable registrations and annual reporting requirements. Civil attorneys help religious institutions prepare for Form 990 readiness, ensuring accurate financial disclosures, governance disclosures, and public accountability. They advise on unrelated business income tax (UBIT) implications for revenue-generating activities and assist in structuring programs to minimize tax exposure while preserving charitable purposes. In Indiana, counsel helps coordinate with state agencies to maintain compliance with charity and tax laws, donor acknowledgment rules, and charitable solicitation requirements. They also craft policies to manage donor intent and ensure proper donor reporting and recognition. By aligning operations with both federal and state requirements, these services promote sustainable tax-exempt status and public trust.

Employment, clergy relations, and workplace policies

Employment matters within religious organizations involve nuanced considerations, and civil attorneys provide guidance on employment law as applied to clergy and lay staff. They help design fair and compliant employee handbooks, non-discrimination policies, and grievance procedures, while addressing unique issues such as clergy appointments and compensation structures. Guidance on sexual harassment prevention, safe environment policies, and background checks helps protect congregations and children, alongside compliance with applicable wage, hour, and benefits regulations. Attorneys assist with contract negotiations for staff and clergy, as well as disputes arising from terminations or separations, ensuring that resolutions are legally sound and ethically appropriate. They also advise on workplace safety and risk management to support a respectful, inclusive, and compliant work environment.

    Risk management, safeguarding, and insurance

Comprehensive risk management is essential for religious institutions, and civil attorneys contribute by drafting and reviewing child protection policies, security protocols, and crisis response plans. They guide organizations through insurance program design and vendor contracts to obtain appropriate coverage for property, liability, employment, and events. Legal counsel conducts risk assessments of programs and facilities, helping identify gaps and establish incident reporting and investigation procedures. They also assist with disaster preparedness and continuity planning to ensure operations can continue during emergencies. Through careful documentation and policy development, these services reduce liability exposure while promoting a safe environment for congregants and staff.

Dispute resolution, governance conflicts, and congregational integrity

When disagreements arise within a religious community or between affiliated entities, civil attorneys facilitate mediation and, if necessary, arbitration or litigation strategies. They help resolve congregational disputes, governance conflicts, and issues related to facility usage or donor stewardship with an emphasis on preserving mission and relationships. Attorneys draft or revise settlement agreements, policies for dispute resolution, and formal governance amendments to prevent future conflicts. They also provide guidance on maintaining organizational integrity and public trust, ensuring that processes align with both legal obligations and ethical standards.

    Intellectual property, publications, and branding

Religious institutions increasingly rely on intellectual property to communicate and connect with members. Civil attorneys advise on trademarks and copyrights for logos, liturgical texts, websites, and publications, protecting the organization’s identity and rights to use materials. They help draft and review licensing agreements for music, artwork, or multimedia content, as well as usage guidelines to prevent unauthorized use. Counsel ensures proper handling of online content rights, databases, and archival materials, including privacy considerations for member information. By establishing clear ownership and licensing terms, they support sustainable outreach and educational programs while mitigating infringement risks.

Interfaith collaboration, consortia, and community partnerships

Civil attorneys assist with interfaith collaboration agreements, joint programming, and multi-faith ventures in Indianapolis. They help structure joint venture agreements and shared facility arrangements, addressing governance, contributions, fundraising, and risk sharing. Counsel ensures that collaborations comply with non-discrimination laws, charitable solicitation rules, and tax considerations for the involved organizations. They also guide risk allocation and dispute resolution mechanisms in partnership agreements, fostering constructive relationships while protecting each institution’s legal and charitable purposes. These services enable religious organizations to expand community impact through responsible, well-documented collaborations.

Frequently asked questions about religious institutions in Indianapolis

What types of religious institutions are present in Indianapolis?

Indianapolis hosts a diverse tapestry of religious institutions across many traditions, including churches from multiple Christian denominations, synagogues and temples for Judaism and Hinduism, mosques for Islam, and centers for Buddhism, Sikh and other faith communities. In addition, there are interfaith centers and non-denominational congregations that welcome people from varied backgrounds. This array reflects a long-standing multicultural heritage and a robust ecosystem for worship, study, and service.

How are religious institutions in Indianapolis governed?

Most houses of worship operate under a mix of clergy leadership and a congregational or denominational governance structure. This may include a board of trustees, a pastor, rabbi, imam, or a senior minister, and committees responsible for worship, finances, education, and outreach. Congregants may participate through volunteering and donations to sustain programs and facilities. The exact model varies by tradition and local congregation.

Are religious institutions in Indianapolis required to obtain permits?

Yes, building renovations, additions, or changes to facilities may require zoning and building permits from city authorities. Large events, amplified sound, or changes to parking and evacuation routes can trigger additional compliance with fire codes and public safety requirements. It’s advisable to consult the facility administrator or the local planning department before undertaking substantial changes.

What role do religious institutions play in the local community?

Religious groups frequently provide community services such as food banks, shelter, youth programs, counseling, and education initiatives. They often partner with schools, nonprofits, and government agencies to advance health, families, and economic stability, while promoting peace and mutual respect among neighbors.

How can I visit or attend services at a religious institution in Indianapolis?

Most places welcome visitors for worship and special events. Check the service times, language offerings, and any guest etiquette. Dress modestly, arrive a few minutes early, and be respectful during prayers or rituals. If you need accommodations (translation, accessibility, childcare), contact the staff in advance to ensure a comfortable visit.

What resources support interfaith cooperation in Indianapolis?

Interfaith dialogue and community collaborations are supported by several networks that host forums, educational programs, and service projects across faith communities. These efforts aim to foster understanding, reduce prejudice, and promote joint charitable work that benefits the broader city.

What should I know about the facilities and accessibility of religious buildings?

Many sites provide ADA accessibility features, including ramped entrances, accessible restrooms, and guided assistance for visitors. Some centers offer translation services, sensory-friendly spaces, or childcare during services. If accessibility is important to you, contact the facility staff ahead of your visit to confirm available accommodations.

Can religious institutions host events or community programs?

Yes, houses of worship frequently host weddings, lectures, cultural celebrations, and community meetings. Booking arrangements typically involve a facility coordinator, insurance and liability considerations, and adherence to security policies during events. Some organizations also offer education programs and outreach activities open to the public.

What are common concerns regarding historic religious buildings in Indianapolis?

Historic sites often face challenges related to maintenance costs, preservation requirements, and the need to balance heritage preservation with modern safety and accessibility upgrades. Communities may work with preservation commissions and architects to ensure that renovations respect architectural integrity while meeting current codes and community needs.

How can I learn about a specific congregation’s beliefs or practices?

The most reliable path is to contact the congregation’s office or visit the official website for a summary of creeds, worship style, language, and daily routines. Attending a service, meeting with a rabbi, imam, or pastor, and reviewing published statements of faith can provide clear insight into doctrine and community expectations.
