The staff I interact with at Indy-West are so helpful. Any time we have a need they are immediately responsive, and I love referring my members to their team! Recently we had a fundraiser related to one of our seniors, and not only did Tammy offer her assistance after hours, she brought her whole family to support our event! I love how much this office loves the community they support. Keep it up!

I’m involved with Home Instead with my “adopted” dad. We have been using this service now for about four weeks. It is a service I can recommend if you are looking to keep your loved ones in their homes. There are some great care givers available, and the office staff is great to work with.

This place is a joke! I went through the interview and testing to get into a program, but they never reached back out. I was told they would give me a call to let me know either way, if I got accepted or not. I took the testing, and waited and waited. Never heard back. I reached out NUMEROUS times, left voice message after voice message and no one ever returned my call. They preach about how important it is not to miss class and how dedicated you have to be if accepted. What an example they showed by NOT even reaching back out. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!

Joys house has helped my family through the hardest times of our life. My father had brain cancer which changed a lot of things about him. He needed someone with him at all times. Joys house cared for him when we couldn’t. And they did a wonderful job. Everyone there loved him so much and he loved them back. The quality of care was always wonderful. I never had a complaint. He went to Joys house 5 days a week for almost three years. He recently passed away from the cancer Feb 16th. Some of the staff even came to his viewing to show their respects. I’m so thankful for everyone at Joys house and all they did to make the last few years of my fathers life so wonderful. I cannot thank them enough. If you are looking for a place to help you care for your loved one, this is it.

If you are planning to attend this program for Continuing Education “DO NOT” waste your time. You are instructed that it is mandatory to sit in 3.5 hour classes twice a week for 2.5 months only from them to tell you they no longer have funding for the classes. A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME if the classes you want to take is through WorkOne. All they care about is you signing in and out on the timesheet in order for them to get paid for you attendance. STAY AWAY they DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR FUTURE nor do they care to help.

I’ve been coming here for 3 1/2 years now. It’s a good place to go to make friends, go on outings to different places, and there is always an activity going on. I especially love the themed parties they have. The employees are caring and go out of their way to help with anything going on. I’m definitely glad my CICOA case manager told me about Independent. An extra bonus is unless I’m going shopping everything else is paid for by Medicaid. An absolute plus!!

They hire more people then they need, I barely got 6 hours a week. I guess that is why they have such a high turn over.
Im sleeping with no heat in my house now because I gave them the benifit of the doubt I would get more hours, gave up job opportunities in thinking they would give me more hours.
I dont recomend working for them.

I truly cannot put into words how deeply impressed and grateful I am for the exceptional care and compassion that everyone at Still Waters Adult Day Services has shown my sister Genia. When I began this journey to care for my sister during one of the most vulnerable times in her life, I knew it would be challenging. I have dealt with difficult situations and people before, so I was naturally concerned about finding the right place.
From the moment we walked through the doors at Still Waters, my worries were put to rest. What I found was a team of people who cared for my sister every bit as much as I do. They welcomed Genia with open arms and treated her like family, even on the days when I know she could be difficult. Their patience, understanding, and genuine love for the people they serve is something truly rare and beautiful.
Still Waters is not just a facility. It is a place filled with remarkable people who care for your loved ones as if they were their own. I can never thank them enough for the kindness and dignity they showed my sister. Because of the love they gave her, every single person there feels like family to me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I love all of you for the way you loved my sister.

My husband has dementia and Still Waters is a Godsend for us! Still Waters offers consistency, a schedule so he knows which day Rachel comes for music, when the kids will be there to visit, etc. Consistent care givers there on a regular basis help my husband feel more secure. All these are very important to someone with FTD and to their care givers. There are many activities each day on a level with the clients’ capabilities–games, art, discussions, exercise, speakers, and more. Bob’s brain is challenged and he’s kept active. The staff is “on it” with medications being given, communication with me when questions or problems arise, keeping an eye on the client’s progress in the phases of dementia and discussing changes with me. Knowing Bob is content and likes attending Still Waters gives me peace, time to get jobs done, to run errands, and to have some time for me. I’m very thankful for all the services that Still Waters provides. The friendships Bob has made give him something to look forward to each day. Still Waters is a blessing to us; I can’t imagine life without it.

My mother has dementia. She’s been attending this daycare for almost 4 years. I don’t know what I would do without them. They are a very important part of our life. They have so many activities and outside vendors that keep her very busy. When I pick her up she tells me how her day was at school. They also have pointed me in the right direction when problems arrive at home. Diana Keely is very knowledgeable about so many things that apply to the elderly. She provides classes and they offer a support group setting. I would highly recommend sending your loved one to this facility. If I could give them 10 stars I would.

I started attending Golden Goldens 4 weeks ago AND I immediately felt right at home. The staff is awesome we do puzzles, games, arts and crafts and the staff personalizes each individuals experiences to maximize your growth intellectually, spiritually ( yes the they take you to church if that’s your thing) but also have a few beautiful souls that visit and bring the church to us. The ladies that work here are extremely experienced in every aspect of caring for special needs. The friendships I have accumulated are dear to my heart. The Director, Ast. Director and especially the nurse are awesome, attending Golden Gardens is the highlight of existence at this point of my life. Last but most definitely not least the Bus Drivers make you feel safe, protected, and take care of you as if you were their family members.

Seeing all the elderly people on their bus not wearing mask and sitting side by side is very concerning. I see their bus daily and always witness the elderly being in harm’s way! They are the most susceptible to the virus but yet the drivers allow this! You can’t even get on a city bus without a mask so how is this allowed? The drivers usually wear one but they don’t take the time to enforce it on the most vulnerable! These actions is why so many elderly people died in nursing homes .

I felt the over all atmosphere was nice. I enjoyed watching the staff interact with the residents. They all seemed like family. When looking for my mother this is was a huge deciding factor for me. Someone to help her feel the love of family when family could not be there.

I have had many family member and friends at Millers and I will say that there have been many rocky moments but you will get that everywhere you go. The staff is there to do their jobs. They interact with the families on a professional level. They do not get personal because that is not their job. They interact with the residents and family member well. They laugh and joke with them to make them feel comfortable. They do their best to make sure all residents needs are accommodated.
Like I said, they have had their moments and I am a familiar face in the building. I am greeted every time I walk in and acknowledged every time I leave. After having my father at home for 22 years and then having him be in Miller’s for 3 1/2 years, it’s not the same as being at home but it’s better than being in other places I have looked up and toured.
The administrator(Erica) and DON(Leah), are very passionate about what they do and have always responded to my concerns with care and quickly.
They are worth a shot with your loved ones!

My mother resided in this facility from september till early January. She contracted covid due to a staff member bringing it in to the facility and infecting residents. Sadly my mother passed away January 16 having never recovered from the virus. Not a single administrator reached out to my father to offer condolences but you can be assured that the Bill’s arrived without a problem.and trying to retrieve her belongings was like pulling teeth. After 3 phone calls arrangements were made for pickup and yet my sister still had to sit in the parking lot for 25 minutes before the belongings were brought out. Her things were sloppily packed and many items were missing. There was also trash in the suitcases along with items that did not even belong to my mother. This facility should be ashamed of how they treat the grieving families of their deceased residents.

Miller Merry Manor – Indianapolis – Castleton
Poorly staffed facility. Our mother contracted COVID in March 2020 and the staff tried to hide it from us. She passed away from it. We have had a credit balance of just under $2,000 with them since March and they refuse to give us back our money. We are suing them to get our money back. There is no insurance money due to them. Nothing ..Zip. The upstairs long term facility is dirty, old, and looks like an institution. Dark and depressing and smells like a urinal. The residents wait for hours for their meals and there is only 1 person fixing trays. The food is nasty, cold and the residents are treated like cattle. It’s deplorable and if we could have gotten our mother out of there we would have but she had to be cathed and we were not equipped to care for her at home and the lockdown happened. The staff purposely lost her cell phone because they knew she was ‘on the ball’ and not suffering from dementia and should would tell us what was happening on the floor with the staff. No personal protection was used. Unqualified caretakers came in off the street from other facilities. The only thing Millers did was lock the residents in their 10×10 rooms day and night. HORRIBLE! There was only one qualified nurse on the whole floor. The rehab girls were rude and uncaring. The ‘nurses’ (I’ll use that term loosely) were cold, calculated and uncaring. Never put your loved one here unless you want the absolute worst possible scenario for them. This place is sad.

My mother is there now for rehab. I called yesterday to check on her and talk to her caregiver. No callback. I call today and ask for Lexi, I wait on hold for 5 min. I callback no one answers. I call a few more times and by this time I am upset and tell the lady that answered that I had been trying to reach someone about my mother since yesterday. Instead of her asking me questions to get to the root if the issue she becomes defensive and tells me how many patients she has and states that today is the first day she has ever taken care of my mother. I’m surprised that it was my mom’s nurse that I was talking to because never once did she introduce herself as such until she became defensive. I asked for a manager, she told me she was one. I told her she was very unprofessional and I was going to pull my mother out of there. She hung up on me. I take care of of both of my parents daily. My mother has dementia and is only there for recovery. I am pulling my mother out of this facility. Please listen when I tell you they are rude and unprofessional. Due to covid I am only allowed to see my mother at this place twice a week for 20 min. The last time I saw or spoke to my mom was Friday.

The staff doesn’t care or do their job properly. My grandma had a hip replacement and it had some leakage that should have stopped in 2 weeks. 4 weeks later and its still leaking. They never expressed concern with family or her doctors now she has a severe infection and has to go threw surgery all over again. They don’t get the patients drinks like they ask for, also when we went to remove her items a lady asked my Husband if he was dave and when he responded with no she said oh i was going to give you a person. It is apparent they need shut down or to go threw the proper training.

Guardianship, conservatorship, and decision-making support
In Indianapolis, civil attorneys can guide families through guardianship and conservatorship proceedings for adults who lack capacity to manage personal or financial affairs. They assist with filing the petition, assembling medical documentation, and coordinating capacity assessments. The goal is to protect the individual's rights while ensuring necessary support, and they also present alternative options such as a durable power of attorney or supported decision-making arrangement when appropriate, to preserve autonomy where possible.
Estate planning and elder law considerations
Civil attorneys specializing in elder law help with estate planning for seniors and their families, including wills, trusts, and healthcare directives. They also address asset protection strategies for long-term care costs, Medicaid planning, and steps to minimize probate complexities. By coordinating with financial professionals, they can align protections for heirs with the client's wishes and rights.
Public benefits applications and appeals
Assistance with Medicaid and other public benefits programs is a common focus. A civil attorney can help with benefits applications, documenting eligibility, and navigating appeals or hearings when denials occur. They may advise on long-term care eligibility and spousal impoverishment rules in Indiana to preserve access to benefits while protecting assets for a surviving spouse.
Elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation advocacy
When concerns arise about elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation, civil attorneys assist with investigation support, coordination with authorities, and pursuing civil actions or protective orders. They help document evidence, navigate reporting requirements, and pursue remedies that may include facility changes, compensation for harms, or changes to care plans.
Civil disputes with care providers and facilities
Disputes involving elder care arrangements, such as care contracts, billing disputes, or alleged negligence by facilities, can be addressed with civil litigation or alternative dispute resolution. Attorneys review resident rights policies, evaluate potential claims of brea ch of contract or negligence, and guide families toward fair resolutions while protecting the senior's interests.
Guardianship alternatives and supported decision-making
Beyond court-ordered guardianship, civil attorneys discuss supported decision-making arrangements and other less restrictive options that enable individuals to retain control over daily choices. They help draft durable powers of attorney, advance directives, and care plans, ensuring alignment with family goals and legal requirements under Indiana law.
Personal injury and accident claims involving seniors
When seniors are harmed in accidents or through negligent care, personal injury claims may be pursued to recover medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Civil attorneys review potential liability and coordinate with healthcare providers to manage Medicare liens or insurance coverage while protecting the client's rights and dignity.
Regulatory compliance and licensing for elder care programs
For elder care programs operating in Indianapolis, civil attorneys provide guidance on licensing, regulatory compliance, and quality-of-care standards. They assist with employee relations, background checks, and privacy protections (including HIPAA). They may draft policies and procedures, review vendor contracts, and support ongoing compliance audits to reduce risk and ensure alignment with state and federal rules.
Frequently asked questions about adult day care in Indianapolis
What is adult day care and who is it for?
Adult day care provides a structured, socially engaging daytime program for older adults and adults with disabilities who need supervision or assistance during the day. It is designed to support independence while offering a safe environment away from home. Participants often join for activities, meals, and light personal care, with the option of transportation in some programs. This service can help families maintain daily routines, reduce caregiver stress, and prevent unnecessary emergency visits. Centers vary in focus, from general social programming to specialized memory care for individuals with cognitive changes.
What services are typically provided at an Indianapolis adult day care center?
Most centers offer a blend of meals, structured activities, and supervision throughout the day. Common services include medication management, help with daily tasks, and opportunities for physical and cognitive activities. Many programs provide recreational therapy, exercise programs, and nutrition support through meals. Transportation arrangements and access to skilled services such as reminders for medications or assistance with routines are frequently offered, though availability varies by center. Some programs also include memory care activities and caregiver education sessions to support families.
How do I determine if an Indianapolis center is licensed and safe?
Begin by confirming the center is in good standing with Indiana state licensing and local health or aging agencies. Ask to see the current license and any recent inspection reports, as well as documentation of staff qualifications and background checks. Inquire about safety protocols, emergency plans, and incident reporting procedures. A safe environment often features clear accessibility, proper fall prevention measures, secure entry systems, and adequate supervision ratios. If questions remain, request a site tour and speak with both staff and current participants or families.
What are typical costs and payment options for adult day care in Indianapolis?
Costs for adult day care vary based on location, the level of care, and services provided. Centers may charge a daily or monthly fee, with some requiring a minimum number of days. In Indiana, Medicare generally does not cover adult day care, while certain Medicaid programs or HCBS waivers may help eligible participants with home and community-based services. Private pay is common, and some centers offer sliding scales or financial assistance options. It’s important to review the full cost structure and any additional charges for transportation or specialized services during the initial visit.
Who can benefit from attending adult day care in Indianapolis?
Individuals who benefit most are those seeking social interaction, routine, and supervision during the day. This includes older adults experiencing mild memory changes, people with disabilities who need assistance with daily tasks, and those recovering from illness or surgery who do not require 24-hour care. Participation can support cognitive stimulation, maintain nutrition, and provide a structured day that improves overall quality of life. Families gain respite and a clearer plan for ongoing care coordination.
How do I arrange transportation to and from the center?
Transportation is a key consideration for many families. Many Indianapolis centers provide door-to-door or curb-to-curb services within a defined service area, and some offer flexible pickup times. If transportation isn’t included, inquire about partnerships with local transit or alternatives such as rideshare options. Consider coordinating with family members or caregivers to ensure timely drop-offs and pickups. Clear transportation policies should be discussed during the tour and written into the enrollment agreement.
What should I look for during a tour or initial visit?
During a tour, observe the cleanliness, safety features (handrails, non-slip floors), and the overall environment for warmth and inclusion. Look at how staff interact with participants, note the staff-to-participant ratio, and ask about staff training in areas like dementia care, de-escalation, and emergency response. Review activity calendars to ensure a mix of physical and cognitive programs that align with the participant’s interests. Finally, request references and speak with a current family to gauge satisfaction and communication.
How does adult day care support caregivers and families?
Adult day care can provide meaningful respite for caregivers and an important source of information about care options. Centers often offer caregiver education, access to social workers, and assistance with care planning. Regular updates on the participant’s progress, emergency alerts, and coordination with healthcare providers help families stay informed. This support can reduce caregiver burden and improve long-term planning for health and safety at home.
What is a typical daily schedule at an Indianapolis center?
A typical day usually starts with a warm welcome and breakfast, followed by structured activities such as brain games, arts and music, and light exercise. Midday meals, perhaps with nutrition considerations, are followed by rest periods or therapeutic activities. The afternoon often includes more outings or social events, time for medication reminders, and transportation back home. Programs strive to balance engagement, safety, and comfort throughout the day.
How can I compare different Indianapolis centers and make a choice?
Start by listing your priorities: location, hours, and the specific care needs of the participant. Compare licensing status, staff qualifications, and safety records. Review the cost structure, availability of transportation, and the breadth of activities offered. Schedule multiple tours, prepare a set of questions about memory care programming if needed, and consider the compatibility with the family’s routine. Reading reviews and talking to other families can also provide valuable insights when choosing the right center for Indianapolis residents.
