I have been meaning to try Mama Carolla’s for a while now and let me set the stage. First off you need need a reservation. Not that you can’t do walk ins but given how busy the place is, it’s a long wait and definitely not worth your time. Second, the ambience needs a shout out – Mama Carolla’s has won awards for its ambience and it’s beautiful. Next the food, every single thing we ordered was so so so delicious. The artichoke fritters were so delicious and I couldn’t stop at one. The pasta too good was definitely too good! It was a lot for me alone and I definitely recommend sharing unless you can fill up on just pasta. The dessert was Okayish and I don’t see that taking over the fritters and the pasta. Service was very quick despite being so busy and we had a great time. A very festive atmosphere and it was definitely worth it!

I loved sitting outside, great atmosphere. The food was delicious and I recommend the steamed mussels as a starter. The flavor was strong but not overwhelming, and it was perfect to dip bread into. Very tasty. The veal medallion was also very good. If you're lucky, you'll get Ashley as your waitress. She did an amazing job accommodating us and I would come back just for her service. You can tell that she has a lot of experience in hospitality.

Delicious, hearty portion sizes and great service. Definitely do yourself a favor and get a reservation and get dessert, you won't regret it! I ordered the manicotti with a meatball on the side and WOW was that ever a delicious plate of food. The meatball was juicy and packed with flavor as well. The canolli was heavenly and the perfect ending to a tremendous dinner! The waitress was very polite, knowledgeable, and had great suggestions for what to order.

We recently went to celebrate a friends birthday and she has spoken very highly of the restaurant, so we had high expectations. Our server was pleasant and attentive throughout the evening. We were seated in the screened in porch area; we requested indoor seating so just an FYI for anyone wanting to sit inside the house, you might need to further clarify which indoor seating you are wanting. We ordered the bruschetta which had smoked mozzarella cheese on top of it. The cheese was it's saving grace as it wasn't as flavorful as you would expect and lacked basil or balsamic. The "Holly's Artichoke Fritters" were a favorite for the table and if returned, I would order them again. At the servers suggestion, I ordered the Rosemary Chicken Lasagna that came with a side salad. The salad was mainly wilted/brown iceberg lettuce and their house dressing was more oil than anything else. The lasagna was decent lasagna with the sauce tasting like something straight from a Prego jar. We did not order dessert as we had a second destination for that.Overall, it's a pleasant restaurant with beautiful architecture and friendly service, but wouldn't call it the best Italian around, nor were there any standout dishes that would draw me back for a second visit.

Second time here & it was as wonderful as I remembered. The prosciutto and melon appetizer was a delight to the senses – mixing sweet & salty. Our server recommended the Mediterranean salad & it was also delicious. The service was timely & professional. A great date night spot! The Mediterranean pasta was extremely delicious and the spumoni gelato was like no other! Highly recommend if you’re looking for the best Italian dishes around, but expect a wait unless you have a large party with reservations.

This place is great but very busy…I recommend making a reservation online or showing up with the 4:30 people. It did seem like it was clearing out around 8pm when we left. Food was great and it's a very cute spot. Service was amazing!

KC McD

It was good. The appetizer came out at the same time as the entrees so that was a little odd. The waitstaff was pretty good. They asked if we wanted a to go cup because there was a full soda on the table. That person said yes but it didn't come. It wasn't a big deal to us but the kind of thing you need to remember if you are the one that offered in the first place. The chicken added to the pasta Alfredo was bland. No salt on the table but we didn't want to ask for it. The eggplant parmesan was very good . On one side the pasta was cold so I assume it was not under the heated lamp on that side while it waited for the other meals to be ready The portions were very large. We each enjoyed a second meal out of it at home. It was good the next day. The Marco's meal for two was a good deal for the price. We would do that again if 2 people wanted pasta. They picked the butter cake for their dessert and one of them had a bite while it was warm but we took the rest home bc we were full. It is better in restaurant rather than taking it home. We were greeted and sat promptly. All the staff were very friendly. The environment is nice. Good for a special occasion, business dinner, family dinner (what we were doing), casual dinner. We have been to Maggiano's all over the country and this one had the same vibe. Would recommend. Would go again.

We had a wonderful dinner at Maggiano’s yesterday. The chicken piccata was perfectly cooked—tender, flavorful, and balanced with just the right amount of lemon and capers. The four-cheese ravioli was rich and comforting, with a creamy sauce that tasted truly homemade. Portions were generous, the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and everything came out fresh and well presented. A great place for a relaxed, delicious meal—we’ll definitely be back.

We often go in for late night dessert and drinks. We were a little disappointed tonight. We felt a little ushered out the door when our ticket was brought just after our dessert arrived. My tiramisu martini ($13.50) didn't even have the chocolate sugar rim. My husband got the Irish cream coffee and it usually comes in a mug vs the tall skinny glass. It just cools off quicker this way. The atmosphere was good. We will go back but hopefully it's a little better the next time. This is a regular stop for us for our date nights.

Not the cheapest Italian restaurant out there BUT you get what you pay for applied here. Best to go in off time hours to avoid the crowd. Loved their sangria I likes you can actually taste the fruit in it. So many out there yoy can't. The pasta was cooked correctly and the sauces had a lot of flavor to them just not simple. Now if great flavors and correctly made pasta is not your thing than skip this place totally now worth it. On the other hand if that quality is something important to you than you should definitely hit this place up.

Excellent family style thanksgiving dinner. An incredible combination of holiday classics with Italian fare created a great mix of flavors providing something for everyone. Thank you to all the staff working on making it a holiday to remember.

Wonderful place to celebrate an anniversary or a birthday or just life. Food was delicious, and in adequate amount… the dessert was scrumptious and finger licking good. The only thing that bothered us was the inability to split the bill among 6 people… but the overall ambience of the place made up for it. Would definitely recommend with friends or family.

We had a company party and it was excellent. The bad part was a small group was sick and couldn’t attend. The food was great. The calamari was the best I e ever had. We had a small selection of apps and food and it was all great. The service was amazing they were attentive and on top of their game. The atmosphere was perfect for group setting. I’m not a huge fan of Italian food, but this Italian food could change your mind. The only reason I did not give a five for the food and atmosphere is because I have been to other establishments which were better. I wish you were able to give half scores.

What an interesting place to eat. The old world charm of dark wood and elegant antique furnishings is charmingly played up by soft tunes from the 40s. The railcar in one section of the dining room would likely be popular with kids. The food was mostly good. Lasagna that my husband had was very good. It held its shape even though it was tender, and the sauce was tasty. The chicken Parmesan was rather bland, and while not terrible, it was a bit disappointing. The meals are a good value that included salad or soup and ice cream for dessert. Our server was fast friendly and efficient. All in all it was a great place to eat in the downtown.

01/07/26- We stopped by after a visit to Riley Hospital for Children because our daughter (6) loves the Old Spaghetti Factory. We were seated immediately, and to make for a perfect day, we sat on the trolley 🚋. Our favorite server, April, was on duty. April has been there for a few years, and she's the best! She's friendly to all our kids and makes them feel welcome. Today we only had one child. Our daughter immediately asked for sweet tea and macaroni. My wife ordered the meat lasagna, and I ordered the spaghetti Vesuvius. All meals come with bread and butter, so we don't order appetizers. Besides, it never takes long for our meal to come out. April was busy, but we never felt ignored. She made sure to ask for what we needed when she checked on us. The meals are freshly made and come out hot. All meals come with a side. My wife ordered the salad. My daughter ordered the applesauce and I ordered the minestrone soup. We all enjoyed our meal, followed by the Spumoni ice cream included with the meal. If anyone is going to criticize the restaurant industry, then cook at home 😁 Thank you, April!

Absolutely loved this place, especially the atmosphere! Service was also great and the shrimp fettuccine was delicious! It’s a 3-course meal with salad or soup, entree and an ice cream dessert choice of two flavors. They also bring bread & butter to begin with. I will definitely be coming back.

Our server was Kimberly! She was wonderful and gave us great service. We loved the atmosphere. That night the restaurant was packed as the FFA convention was in town. We stopped into Bazbeaux on Mass Ave on a busy evening, and it was fantastic from start to finish. Even with the crowd, every pizza and garlic bread we ordered came out perfectly prepared—hot, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The service was outstanding as well; the staff stayed friendly, attentive, and efficient throughout the rush. A wonderful experience all around and an easy recommendation for anyone craving great pizza in Indy.

It took me way too long to try this place out, but better late than never. The pizza was absolutely delicious.I chose to do a build your own pizza but they have several signature pizzas I would like to on my return visit. The service there was great as well. 10/10 would recommend.

I had a great experience at Bazbeaux Pizza in Indianapolis. Our server, Evan, was fantastic—friendly, attentive, and full of helpful suggestions. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the *Tchoupitoulas* pizza (being from Louisiana, the name definitely caught my eye), but Evan recommended it, and it turned out to be absolutely delectable. The flavors were unique and really well-balanced. I also ordered half *Colossus*, which was hearty and satisfying. While it might not be the absolute best pizza I’ve ever had, it was definitely very tasty and worth the visit. Overall, between the great food, reasonable prices, and outstanding service from Evan, Bazbeaux is a spot I’d definitely return to next time I’m in town. They could use a couple of TVs though because the game was on too.

We stopped in on a Friday night, so we expected it to be busy, but it was a little later in the evening and we were seated right away. There were a number of empty table, so we weren't expecting to wait on our food for almost an hour. The table next to us actually left before their food came because they felt they had waited too long. Our waiter was fine, and did seem to be doing a lot of running around in the dining room and outside, but wasn't particularly personable. The pizza was good, as were the salads, but there was quite a bit of icky brown lettuce in the Caesar. So, I would give this place another shot, but wasn't terribly impressed with my first experience there.

What a great pizza! Such a wonderful tomato taste. The crust was nice and crispy. I had gotten a mixed salad and they definitely did not skimp on the shaved Parmesan. The atmosphere was inviting and I am sure is really lively at night. I went in the afternoon for a late lunch. Parking is pay parking outside by meter. I think the only thing that would have made it better if there was a nice place to sit outside as the weather was amazing when I was there.

Found this place on a top ten restaurant list on trip advisor and it did not disappoint! Me and my husband split the bayou chicken pizza and it was delicious! The crust was thin and crispy, the chicken was spicy and moist, and the sauce was tasty! Even the ranch was good! Our server was amazing too. Highly recommend!

I had visited Doc B’s once before and while it was memorable, I felt indifferent when my brother chose it again to celebrate his birthday. That second visit completely changed my view. The food was delicious, and the presentation of several dishes felt like true culinary artistry. I’ve never seen fries, especially sweet potato fries, plated so thoughtfully and stacked with such creativity. It immediately stood out. Our table sampled a wide range of dishes, from ribs and smoky Gouda mac & cheese to the wok-out bowl, fresh guacamole served with airy, light sweet potato chips (absolutely delectable), burgers, wings, chicken wraps, kabobs, and a crispy chicken sandwich. Every dish was enjoyed, there were no misses. The meal was elevated even further with dessert. The house-made cookies and cream ice cream, Rob’s Double Decker Chocolate Cake, and the tres leches were the perfect ending. This visit turned me into a fan. Doc B’s delivered on flavor, presentation, and overall experience. I’ll absolutely be back.

The 1 lb meat balls were AMAZING you could have them either with pasta or bread and the sauce was really good!! Also the pumpkin cheese cake was yummy! Drinks were strong and tasty. Service was a little off. We were to have one person at first however we ended up being passed around so I do not feel we received the best service. Overall I would certainly come back!!

This place is absolutely amazing and also beautiful on the inside. Perfect place for a date night with your spouse. We ended up sitting at the bar because we didn't have reservations which I highly recommend that you do. The patio outside looks amazing for a perfect date night on a summer day. But since we did not have reservations, we ended up sitting by the bar which was not bad at all. Our waiter, Shea, was amazing! He helped us out navigating through the menu since it was our first time being there. The chicken parm was delicious. A little bit too much cheese, but it was still delicious. We got the cheesecake which I highly recommend. The salsa could needed a little bit more seasoning, a little bit more spice, I could be biased since I'm from California. All in all, I give this restaurant a 10 out of 10. Great food, great atmosphere, great vibes.

Really enjoyed my visit here! The staff were friendly, efficient, and made the meal feel effortless from start to finish. The food was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic, and the pricing made the visit feel like a real win—you get a lot for what you pay. The overall vibe was comfortable and inviting, which made it easy to relax and just enjoy the meal. This is exactly the kind of place I’d keep an eye out for when traveling, because it hits all the right notes: great service, tasty food, and fair prices. Definitely planning to check out another location next time I’m on the road—it’s the kind of place you remember and want to revisit.

Ate at this restaurant while visiting The Fashion Mall. We did not have reservations but were still seated right away. The ambiance of the place is really nice; clean, good lighting, and the noise level is minimal. Our service was delayed during our visit but not too badly. The staff was friendly and apologetic for it. I ordered a burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was cooked and seasoned perfectly and very well. Everybody else enjoyed their meals as well and because our service was delayed, they provided a free dessert. We got the tres leches cake and it was excellent. Overall, very impressed with the restaurant and its food and service. A+

The Zozo Shrimp and the salad was probably the only good thing that my husband and I had. His chicken parm tasted like the sauce has been burnt. It just tasted very bitter. My chicken Alfredo didn’t have enough sauce or chicken, perhaps if the chicken was cut smaller it would’ve been better. As for the restaurant itself, it’s a cute location. I think they get more business than they anticipated when they picked the location because the inside is very crowded and small. The tables do look nice. And staff was friendly but busy, she was so busy that she’d walk away before hearing the rest of the order at times. But she was very nice. Overall I’d probably order the shrimp and/or salad to go. I wouldn’t dine in again. Spent $100+ and was mad.

We made reservations and glad we did! We overheard people being told it was going to be 2.5-3 hours wait… the experience was worth it and so was the food. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive. We started with the calamari which was cooked well and came with two sauces. It wasn't rubbery at all and both sauces were flavorful. I had the veal Parmesan. It was delicious and there were two good sized pieces of veal on top of the noodles. The edges did get slightly over cooked in some areas but not enough to send it back. My husband had the veal marsala which was also delicious. We were given house bread with oil and tomatoes which was a nice break after the appetizer while we waited for the salad and dinner. The house salad was unexpectedly flavorful.

Final meal of my weeklong trip in Indy, and this by far was the best meal I’ve had. My waitress Sarah was cheerful, helpful, and friendly. The rest of the staff were very attentive and they even went so far as to offer me some focaccia to soak up the last of the sauce from my entree, so it really does feel like an Italian trying to stuff you with the best they had to offer. I could not think of a single complaint despite knowing one usually signifies realism to a review.

Really enjoyed my dinner here. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is warm, and the food was excellent. The shrimp entrée was my favorite — perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and honestly the highlight of the night. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. I’d definitely come back.

The restaurant is overpriced and does not live up to the "Best Italian restaurant in Indianapolis" claim. I really enjoyed the pasta in Vodka sauce, the salad and the house baked bread! However, the Spinach Artichoke Bruschetta was served with a burnt bread (literally black on the bottom) and the topping was cold straight from the refrigerator. We personally did not enjoy the Shrimp scampi swimming in a pool of wine, but I would consider that as an opportunity for personal development. The seating is mediocre with high tables and uncomfortable rocky chairs, hardly contributing to the "fine dining" experience. Service was good (our server was awesome and very knowledgable). Overall, I think the live grinding of Parmesan and black pepper does not justify the prices on the menu.

This place has been on my bucket list for a few years now and it did not disappoint. Everything we had was delicious and every detail was thoughtful. The staff was so kind and attentive. The courtyard is the perfect vibe for a friday night date after a long week. We will definitely be back!

What an amazing family dinner. They were able to accommodate our party of 12 (with prior reservation). Our server Daryl (or his younger brother) was great and on top of the service all night. We never had to wait or ask about anything. He made it fun for everyone. The food was amazing. Great meals for all our variant needs (no dairy, vegetarian, special orders). We spent about $80 per person with appetizers, entrées, drinks, and desserts. And the history of the restaurant is amazing, spanning almost 100 years with lots of drama. Ask about it when you visit. Eating at Iozzo's is a must if you are local or visiting from out of town.

Had a great experience here! We came on a busy Saturday night, but they were able to move through people quickly and we didn’t end up having to wait very long! The food was incredible, I am so happy we found such good pizza! We have a picky family and it is hard to please everyone, so they let us do an half-and-half pizza to please everyone! Our server was friendly and the food came out so fast! Pepsi products, which is always a plus for me!

My Family and I had the park avenue, Madison Avenue and pepperoni bread sticks and they were all delicious. Loved the atmosphere, food came at good timing even though place was packed. Great service and server was friendly. Will definitely come back to try other pizzas. Almost forgot the brownie dessert was huge and tasty. My kids and husband loved it.

The pizza was on par if not better than what's in NY. It's the best in Indy by a long shot. The ingredients are primo, Grandma's sauce is perfectly balanced, and the pizza is cooked perfectly. The only detractor of the pizza being world class is the gluten needs more time to develop, as you have to eat the pizza with a fork and knife because the slice sags. The dough is delicious, it just needs a longer ferment and/or more protein in the flour. The restaurant was spotless on a Friday night. The staff were very friendly and professional. And it's worth the 16 mile trip across town. The 20" pizza is huge, and will feed 3 easily.

I love this place. The food and service was excellent. The appetizer was great and received fast. There is a long wait on deep dish pizza but totally worth it! It's very filling with 2 pieces. The walls could use a fresh paint.

They were short staffed. For a small thin crust margarita pizza it took an extremely long time !! once we got it they tell us that they were out of basil. And there was no tomatoes on it. Why would you make just a cheese pizza and not tell us first so if you wanted to change your minds, we so we just got a cheese pizza. It was OK tasting, but I’ve had better !! Our server never came back to us at all so we got a different one and he was nice. we won’t be coming back here.

Had such a great experience here! The atmosphere is super cool, clean, and welcoming—perfect for a relaxed meal or a fun night out. Our server, Glenn, was outstanding—friendly, polite, and really knew his stuff. He made the whole experience effortless and enjoyable. We started with the calamari, which was cooked perfectly and full of flavor, and then went all in on a Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. Honestly, it was incredible—fresh toppings, rich, flavorful sauce, and those cheesy pulls that make you go "wow." Every bite was just perfect. The whole vibe, combined with amazing service and seriously good food, made this spot a total winner. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Indy—it’s the kind of place that makes you excited for your next visit. Highly recommend if you’re looking for great pizza and a chill, fun atmosphere.

Solid dining experience. I had the tomato bruschetta, which was overflowing with the perfect mix of chopped tomato, garlic, basil, balsamic vinegar, all sitting atop mozzarella cheese and crispy bread. I ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture! The deep dish pizza was cooked as ordered and was the perfect size for one. Service was prompt and friendly.

Giordano's Deep Dish pizza is a Chicago classic for a reason! I brought my family, and we were all impressed. The deep dish was exactly what you'd hope for—thick, cheesy, and absolutely delicious. The kids, who are usually picky eaters, couldn't get enough, which made the meal a definite win in my book. The only small hiccup was the garlic bread. While I didn't mind it, the rest of my family only had one bite and passed on the rest, saying it had a strange smell. It was a bit odd, and they ended up leaving it untouched. Despite the garlic bread, the food was great, and our experience was made even better by our server, Max. He was fantastic—so friendly and polite, and he made sure we had everything we needed. His service really elevated our dinner. We'll definitely be back for the deep dish, and hopefully, the garlic bread is better next time!

MY EXPERIENCE: Showing up to Buca di Beppo solo? No worries! The vibe was authentic, and the server was a total pro, making the standard family-style feast into a solo entree experience. I went with a Caesar salad, some Italian bread and real butter, and the creamy fettuccine Alfredo—yum! To top it all off, I could not resist a heavenly cannoli drizzled with chocolate syrup. Seriously, the textures and flavors were on point and even more enjoyable while immersed in the all Italian atmosphere, making it an unforgettable dining adventure. HISTORY & CONTEXT: Buca di Beppo has been serving up Italian classics since 1993, bringing the heart of Italy to America's tables. Known for its authentic dishes and cozy, family-friendly atmosphere, it's a staple in the restaurant scene. This spot has been a go-to for those craving a taste of Italy without leaving the city. With a rich history and a loyal following, it's no wonder this place is a must-visit for anyone seeking a genuine Italian dining experience. I will be back!

I was in Indianapolis for a work trip, and a group of colleagues and I chose this Italian spot for dinner. We kicked things off with a sampler of appetizers—meatballs, fried calamari, shrimp, and fried mozzarella. The calamari and meatballs were fairly standard, but the mozzarella was nicely done, crisp on the outside and gooey inside. The shrimp stood out with a fiery after-kick that I enjoyed, though several people at our table found it a bit too spicy. For the main course, we took advantage of a four-for-four special, which let us order four different entrées for a set price. We went with chicken mozzarella, Alfredo pasta, chicken lemon, plus a Caesar salad and garlic bread. Portions were generous—so much so that several of us had to pack leftovers. Flavor-wise, everything was solid and satisfying, though nothing particularly memorable. That said, I should mention that my bar for Italian food is pretty high. Compared to those standards ( in Boston and NYC) the dishes here were decent but not exceptional. Still, the restaurant itself was popular and welcoming, with a relaxed, charming atmosphere. If you’re in Indianapolis and craving Italian, it’s definitely worth a visit for a casual, hearty meal

Fun for a family or group of friends. Wish I knew it was family style, we would have waited to visit with some friends. Tons of food for just my wife and I. Translated into lots leftovers an unfortunately we had to eat the same plate since it made no sense for us to order two family portions of food. The lasagna was pretty good but could have used more seasoning. Meaty and stayed together well! We’ll return with friends on our next trip, I’d like to try their other dishes.

I just can’t seem to fathom why this place only has like 3.9 almost 4 stars. When I tell you, I just experienced the best customer service by TC, I have not experienced anything like this before. If I could rate it 10/10 stars I would! He was clever, hilarious, communicative, and he does a great job at his job. My food was hot and fresh and he brought that out pretty fast. The food was absolutely amazing. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, he helped me find out where I needed to go and was on top of everything I needed as a customer. I can’t wait for this to be my new go to spot whenever I’m in Indianapolis. Thank you so much TC!

I was in town for meetings and decided to satisfy my craving for Italian cuisine. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and garlic cheese bread. The experience was disappointing from the start. As soon as I tried to mix in the dressing, I noticed the chicken had hard ends. At first, I thought I was given fried chicken, but upon closer inspection I realized it was simply overcooked—so dry it looked fried. It ruined the entire salad. I ended up boxing it back up and tossing it in the trash. The garlic cheese bread was no better. It was plain, colorless, and had only the faintest hint of garlic. For $30, I walked away still hungry and in search of lunch elsewhere.

If you have a good size group and you are hungry thing is the place to go. I know my 3 star review on the food isn't screaming go but I was the only one disappointed with my food. The penne alla vodka and it left me wanting. I also ordered a mule that did not warm my soup. However, the rest of the table seemed to be happy with that they ordered: baked rigatoni, prosciutto stuff chicken, and the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp. The servers ALL were extremely friendly and attentive and the decore was perfect for the place so I'll definitely come again just will try something else…

Met some friends downtown for dinner. Our server was very nice. They were out of the stuffed shells and lasagna at 8 on a Friday… not completely unexpected but still. We got the appetizer trio, the calamari was freezer burnt and extremely bland. The fried mozzarella was good, and the spicy shrimp were decent but very oily. We just had apps and drinks. The manager was nice enough to comp our calamari and gave us coupons for a future visit, but I don’t think I’ll be returning. For the price, the food was very uninspiring.

Friday Night we decided to go with Iarias and we’re pretty pleased with the experience we got . Firstly walking in it is not like your typical Italian restaurant atmosphere but almost bar like , it was very cold . Ordering the food I got the Cheese Tortellini. The sauce was great and food was extremely hot and clearly cooked to order . The pasta on the other hand was still great but I’m not sure if it freshly made , taste really similar to the frozen from home . Their Garlic Bread is pretty good along with the service bread . Our Waiter was really polite and hard working . Overall a pleasant experience and I will eventually visit again .

I ate dinner here one night after a long time wandering downtown. It’s got an old-fashioned ambience and friendly staff, and I was able to sit down right away at the bar even without reservations. I got the spaghetti and meatballs, which seems to be a well-regarded dish here. It was delicious and the meatballs had an interesting flavor I loved but couldn’t quite place. It was quite filling too. It’s cool to see such places are still around. I’d definitely visit again someday.

My husband is from New York and we've been looking for a great local Italian spot. We finally found it. Highly recommend the mussels in white wine, fried mozzarella (fav), eggplant Parmesan and the grouper picatta.. We are fasting for lent and the eggplant Parmesan tasted like crispy meat. It was surprisingly better than I thought it'd be. Also, the service was excellent. They were very attentive!! 10/10

I have been looking for a good local family-owned Italian restaurant in the area for a while, and this one did not disappoint. Probably the best lasagna I have had in years. My kids had the pizza and said it was great too. I love the building. It reminds me of a time before everything was corporate. I would definitely eat here again.

Frequently asked questions about Italian restaurants in Indianapolis

What makes Indianapolis’ Italian restaurant scene unique?

Indianapolis’ Italian restaurant scene offers a diverse range of experiences, reflecting the city’s growing culinary landscape. While traditional, family-run establishments remain a cornerstone, a new wave of chefs is bringing innovative approaches to classic dishes, incorporating local ingredients and modern techniques. The city's location, bridging Midwestern and Eastern influences, contributes to a distinct flavor profile you won’t find everywhere – a blend of hearty comfort food with a touch of refinement. Regional specialties, like cavatelli and sfogliatella, are gaining popularity alongside familiar favorites, demonstrating a genuine appreciation for authentic Italian cuisine.

Are there many authentic Italian restaurants in Indianapolis?

Yes, Indianapolis boasts a significant number of restaurants that pride themselves on providing an authentic Italian experience. Many establishments are owned and operated by Italian families who have been bringing their family recipes to the city for generations. These restaurants are known for utilizing traditional cooking methods, importing high-quality Italian ingredients, and offering a truly immersive experience. Seeking out restaurants that emphasize fresh pasta made in-house and utilizing imported olive oils is a good strategy to find these authentic gems.

What kind of pasta dishes can I expect to find?

The range of pasta dishes in Indianapolis is impressively extensive. You can expect to see classics like spaghetti Bolognese, fettuccine Alfredo, and penne alla vodka readily available. However, many restaurants also specialize in regional Italian pasta dishes like cavatelli con le sarde (with sardines and fennel) from Sicily, pappardelle al cinghiale (with wild boar ragu) from Tuscany, and handmade tagliatelle featuring seasonal ingredients. Don’t be surprised to find creative interpretations of traditional favorites – chefs are constantly experimenting with unique sauces and preparations, using ingredients like locally sourced mushrooms and seasonal vegetables. Handmade pasta is a significant draw for many establishments.

How much do the main courses typically cost?

The cost of main courses at Indianapolis' Italian restaurants varies depending on the restaurant's location, the ingredients used, and the complexity of the dish. Generally, you can expect to pay anywhere from $20 to $45 for a main course. Higher-end restaurants specializing in more intricate dishes and utilizing premium ingredients tend to be on the higher end of the spectrum, while more casual eateries offering familiar classics are often more budget-friendly. Family-style dining options, where dishes are shared amongst the table, can sometimes offer better value for groups.

Do any Italian restaurants in Indianapolis offer vegetarian or vegan options?

Many establishments offer dedicated vegetarian pasta dishes, such as aglio e olio or pasta with seasonal vegetables. Some restaurants also provide vegan options, like pasta with pesto (made with plant-based ingredients) or eggplant parmesan without the cheese. It’s always best to inquire directly about specific dietary restrictions to ensure you receive a suitable meal. Creative vegetable preparations are becoming more common.

Are there any popular Italian restaurants with a good wine list?

Several highly regarded Italian restaurants in Indianapolis have curated extensive wine lists featuring a selection of Italian wines, ranging from affordable everyday choices to premium, aged vintages. Many establishments specialize in wines from regions like Tuscany, Piedmont, and Veneto, pairing them expertly with their menu offerings. In addition to Italian wines, some restaurants also offer a selection of international wines to complement a broader range of dishes. Wine pairings are often recommended by the staff to enhance the dining experience.

What’s the typical atmosphere like at an Italian restaurant in Indianapolis?

The atmosphere at Indianapolis’ Italian restaurants varies considerably, depending on the establishment’s style. You’ll find everything from cozy, family-run trattorias with rustic decor and checkered tablecloths to more upscale restaurants with elegant interiors and a sophisticated ambiance. Many restaurants feature warm lighting, traditional Italian music, and a focus on creating a convivial and welcoming atmosphere for diners. Some restaurants have private dining rooms available for special events.

Are there any popular Italian restaurants that are good for families?

Yes, Indianapolis has several Italian restaurants that are particularly well-suited for families. Many of these establishments offer a kid-friendly menu with simpler dishes, such as pasta with butter and parmesan, or chicken parmesan, which appeals to children. Some restaurants have dedicated children’s areas or high chairs to accommodate families with young children. A focus on creating a welcoming and relaxed environment is key for these family-friendly establishments. Early evening dining can be a good option for families with young children.

How can I make a reservation?
