Stepping into The Inferno Room feels like entering a warm, adventurous retreat. The staff blend hospitality with theatrical flair, guiding guests through a menu that rewards curiosity. The tropical decor and carefully lit corners create a mood where conversations spark and laughter travels easily. Our server offered thoughtful pairings, explaining the ingredients behind each drink, and checked in without hovering. It’s a memorable experience built on atmosphere, speed, and attentive care.
Drinks here command a playful, well-executed focus on presentation and flavor. The flame-kissed cocktails glow on the glass, while non-alcoholic options stand proud for friends and designated drivers. The kitchen does a solid job with shareables, and the whipped feta dip is a standout. If you appreciate craft cocktails paired with a courteous atmosphere, you’ll leave feeling satisfied, inspired, and eager to return for another creative night.

Such an awesome and on theme place! We did not have a reservation and were looking to just grab some drinks and were able to be seated right away. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The drink menu was extensive and very creative! Overall a fun time – we’re glad we stopped!

Came here for a birthday, staff was inviting and accommodating to our table requests. I’m not normally a fan of fancy drinks, but their cocktails were amazing! The presentation and complex flavors were truly a treat! The only reason for the lower stars was the poke bowl was far from appetizing. It was majority rice with little to no flavor. All in all the rest of our meals and appetizers were of a reasonable quality. It’s apparent the focus is on the drinks and they crushed it!

A neat place, love all the tiki decorations. Drinks were ok. I’m a little disappointed that they only had one drink that comes flaming. But still a cool sight to see. We didn’t order any meals, but we did order the whipped feta dip, and it was amazing. Highly recommend it. Staff was friendly and allowed us to walk around and check the place out. Definitely worth a stop in to check it out.

You must visit! Pictures and descriptions will never do it justice. My friends and I had a fantastic time during our first visit to The Inferno Room. The bartender, Quinn, was super engaging and easy to talk to.
The atmosphere here is unlike any other bar I’ve been to – it’s perfect Tiki. Despite the name, The Inferno Bar has a super relaxed vibe, great lighting, themed music, and awesome decor.
The drinks were all superb. They also have great non-alcoholic options for those who do not partake. Highly recommend the Titillating Tart and the Shadow Armada. Quinn also made a fantastic Mai Tai for us.
Thanks for having us, especially during NBA Finals! We can’t wait to return.

I went here at 10 p.m. yesterday. Our server was incredibly kind and funny. I got an embutido sandwich and the coconut explosion. Both were incredibly good, and I brought home half of my food for my boyfriend, who said it was fantastic even while cold. The environment and atmosphere were great, and even the cook was incredibly kind and humble. Great experience i definitely would go again. It is a bit pricey, though!

The Inferno Room leans into the goofiness that Hawaiian culture is marketed at. The menu has lots of fun things like tiki and animals. The food has a lot of Hawaiian feel. Mac salad and adding spam to a dish. The mocktail I had saw really good. And the rice had some nice fruit that paired with the spam

Such a fun and unique spot—The Inferno Room totally exceeded my expectations! It has that classic tiki bar vibe with amazing decor, great music, and an atmosphere that feels like a mini escape right in the heart of Indy.
The bartender was incredible—super knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what he does. You could tell every drink was crafted with care, and the cocktails were just as fun as the vibe itself.
I’ve lived in Indy for years and somehow had never been before, but I’m so glad I finally checked it out. Highly recommend to anyone looking for something fun, different, and full of character. I’ll definitely be back!

Won’t be returning they have a $20 cut and light fee. Even if you buy their cigars you can’t smoke your own (better) cigars. Had no problem buying their cigars and smoking my own to support the business….also planned to get food and drinks… but no thanks. Went to another place north of them and had a great experience.

Went into Blend on a random Tuesday to have a drink. We’re big cocktail fans and love intimate experience where to can learn and understand the spirits you are drinking. Brian at the bar was AMAZING! He was great talking bourbon, rye, and other spirits with us. We really appreciated him taking time to make us feel like family. We’ll be back

In a word, Amazing! This is my second time here… The first time, I had some chips and left after coming to get the lay of the land on mybinaugral trip. The Blend struck me as absolutely my vision of a cigar bar. Rustic and classic detailing and furnishings create the setting for a relaxing..no hustle moment of relaxation. As I sat at the bar or the side tables..stress left and relaxation sat in.
This time I came in looking for food, a drink, cigar and peace of mind free from decision making. Rhe Blend has a nice compact menu, which I love. Very impressive and extensive spirits menu and cigars for daysbin the walk in humidor. The Cuban sandwich was excellent, their Makers Mark was very nice and smooth and the Davidoff Winston Churchill was what the doctor ordered.
Big shout out to Dave (cigars) and Richard on bar…top tier service! In both cases I gave them scant details of what I thought I was looking for and they superbly filled in the blanks making the final selection. I was not let down!!!
As the terminator said…! Will be back!

Valentine’s Day Break-up (Save your relationship, DON’T GO HERE)
I’ll make the play-by-play short because who wants to stick around for that…
I’ve purchased hundreds of Davidoff cigars from Blend over the years, I usually buy boxes. In fact, I currently have more than 400 Davidoff cigars in a Humidor which I affectionately call my “Davidoffidor” (see pic). Almost all of them were purchased from Blend. Although I have purchased hundreds of cigars from them, I haven’t frequented the lounge that often, maybe 10 times. Here’s the break-up…their employee wasn’t pleased that I lit up a cigar not purchased from them, even though I made him aware that I’ve purchased 100’s of cigars from them previously – including 6 the week before ($200). I had one of those sticks with me, but my wife asked me to smoke the smaller of the two cigars I brought. I also pointed out that we already purchased $30 worth of drinks. (FYI – $30 gets you an Old Fashioned and a cup of coffee) His response was “I’ll let you finish this time” and “you can’t smoke here without a cut fee”. (He didn’t explain what a cut-fee is) I then pointed to the DD cigar I bought the week before and asked “what would your reaction be if I were smoking that one?” He said “I would give you the benefit of the doubt.” “We have rules and you know them.” Well, in fact I didn’t know them, I still don’t…but I also have rules. Don’t treat me like that. I avoid places where staff uses phrases like “we have rules”, I’m not a 21 yo frat boy burning a cigar to death. Most importantly, I don’t pay people to treat me that way. It’s important to note that after having this conversation, he dropped the check and didn’t offer any additional service to us. You know, on Valentine’s Day.

This place is amazing!! This was our first time coming here. Staff were phenomenal! We didn’t even have to open the door! As we approached Blend bar we were greeted by Tom who opened the door for us! He was also very helpful recommending cigars for my husband. Their ventilation system is top notch! There was no stale smoke smell at all in there and we were talking amongst ourselves when we got home that you could hardly smell lingering smoke on us as well. Only on his hand basically. One thing I will say though is that the ventilation does make it a tad chilly inside but nothing a light jacket or long sleeves can’t remedy. Our bartender was a lovely lady named Jojo. Very friendly and provided absolutely wonderful service. My husband and I both had the Cuban sandwiches which were very good actually and even paired well with his cigar. Jojo also recommended the Irish Cream Cheesecake for dessert and it was amazing. Perfectly balanced, the chocolate was not too sweet or too bitter. The fresh mint and blackberries were a wonderful touch. We also had the Davidoff VSOP, Giesen Sauvignon Blanc and some Benedictine. Everything was wonderful. We will be back again and bringing our friends! Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Multiple Port Wines options & an extensive whiskey list, with the stick selection, ranks this lounge near the top!

My wife loves Christmas so we take a trip every year to a different city in December. Hotel Tango had a Christmas pop up bar advertised on Facebook so we wanted to check it out. The decorations were fantastic and they did a Christmas theme for their cocktails. The drinks were great and we were able to sit by the fireplace. They stoked the fire and we were very comfortable. Pets were welcome and they even have a house cat that wonders around! Great place and very happy we stopped in!

This is one of the coolest spots I found while visiting Indy. Top-top shelf cocktails, very hip, casual and comfortable vibe. All kinds of different eclectic seating throughout. Their spirits are no joke and I brought home the Barrel Reserve and the 4-year straight. The one bartender (sorry forgot your name) was mixing 4 cocktails at once. Very impressive. Friendly place, met a bunch of people and we all just vibed about life, love and stuff.

Hotel Tango is our home away from home. An absolute spectacle of a distillery with incredible liquors & spirits.
Stopped by tonight and had some holiday themed cocktails, Santa should be stopping at Hotel Tango before the big day this year.
Great pop up decor, great bar tender, just great. The Swiss Miss Shmello is unreal, by it and impress your friends.
Freddie Purcury keeps swatch over the bar and will encourage you to dip I to their old fashions or take a ride in the wild side with an Oat Rye cocktail.
Let the bartenders be your guide!

This Place is the Cat’s Meow!
I stumbled into Hotel Tango in Fletcher Place and immediately felt like I’d found a hidden gem. The vibe is perfectly rustic and cozy, like your coolest friend’s cabin, but with way better drinks. The whole place just wraps you in a warm, friendly hug the second you walk in.
Speaking of drinks, let’s talk about the “Summer Camp Inspired” cocktails. What a blast! Each sip was a nostalgic trip back to bonfires and ghost stories, but with a delicious, grown-up boozy twist. The creativity is off the charts, and the staff are more than just friendly; they’re genuinely helpful and seem to love what they do, which makes the experience even better.
As someone who deeply values safe and inclusive spaces, my heart soared when I saw the Pride rainbows. It’s a simple gesture that speaks volumes, letting you know this is a place where everyone is welcome. It’s clear they care about their community. The history here is incredible, too. I learned that the name “Hotel Tango” comes from the owner’s initials and that “Tango” is a nod to their history as a combat veteran. It’s actually the first combat-veteran-owned distillery in the United States and was the first to open in Indiana after Prohibition, which adds a profound layer of honor and meaning to the whole establishment.
But the absolute, undisputed highlight of my visit? Meeting the four-legged legend, Freddie Purrcury. This charming feline is the real star of the show, sauntering around and accepting pets like the royalty he is. A distillery with a resident cat is my new favorite thing.
Hotel Tango isn’t just a place to get a great cocktail; it’s an experience. It’s got heart, it’s got history, and it’s got a cat named Freddie. What more could you ask for? I’ll be back, for sure!

Whether you’re going with friends or just looking for a chill evening, it’s a great choice for quality cocktails in a laid-back setting.

My husband and I were visiting Indianapolis for our anniversary and found this gem as we wandered around looking for interesting things. We popped in, immediately spying classic board games by the door for patron use. Then we found a comfortable table and checked out their cocktails. My husband and I each had two, and all four were delicious, I would rate them between 9/10 and 10/10. I highly recommend the book-themed cocktails. The best, if you enjoy sweeter, fruity drinks, is Shy-Hulud, which adorably had a gummy worm included, fitting the theme. The music was excellent, the types of songs I go “Oh yeah! I really like that one, haven’t heard it in a while.”. The sound volume and temperature were quite comfortable, and our server was a 10/10 named Giselle, she is friendly, playful, and knows their products and what to recommend based on your preferences. If we lived nearby we would definitely be regulars! “The spice must flow…”

Cool atmosphere ruined by poor service and choice of movie to share on screens. I only caught five minutes of a movie being shown, but it was enough time to see a man force himself onto a woman twice in whatever choice of film some employee thought was a good choice to show. Not a very good vibe from that, or the employee’s lack of care on my comment mentioning it. Also, the Negroni pictured below is what I was served. I’m not certain an actual bartender made this drink because what is that? Could have been a cool spot but I will not be recommending or revisiting based on that experience. Sharing in hopes you will look into this. It was weird

We had a great time, but we’re with a large group and the kitchen was a bit overwhelmed with 12 food orders at once. Took quite a bit to get our food (over an hour for all of us to get served), and it was just ok. The drinks were very good. The service otherwise was good. It felt like we just overwhelmed them with a large number of items at once.

I didn’t even make it in before being verbally accosted by some crackhead looking guy says he’s an owner trying to beef over daytime parking like he’s some meter maid…
That’s not how you should treat anyone that might potentially be a patronizing customer…they weren’t open yet and I’m from out of town so I was just going to take a look around but I got my head but off for no reason…

Pulled into a parking lot in Fountain Square to check out a new spot that the parking lot butts up against. Some guy comes out of Brass Ring and asks if he can help me. When I said I was going next door, he tells me I need to leave and park elsewhere. After I made a snarky comment about not being very busy, he told me I should show some common courtesy and only park in places I’m going to deliver to. It was 1pm on a Wednesday. Brass Ring doesn’t even open til 4pm, so I’m really not sure what harm was being done. As far as I’m concerned, it’s impossible to have customer only parking when you don’t even have customers. Wasn’t planning to come here before, and most definitely won’t patronize this place going forward either.

This was the smallest cigar lounge we’ve been to in the area, but the service was great! They have a small food menu, with actual food, not just a couple of bar type appetizers like other places. My husband had the hibachi steak sandwich and fries and I had spicy dragon roll. Both we’re excellent! Great place for a bite and a smoke, however, it would’ve been nice if it was more like a lounge with comfortable seating like other places, instead of tables and hard chairs.

Great place that I stumbled upon. Fast and friendly service. The appetizers were yum and the cigar selection is top. Atleast 30 plus cigars. Our waitress cut our cigars and the drinks are top shelf as well with a huge selection as well. I’m glad I found this spot and will for sure come back.

We were in town for a few days and looking for a nice, intimate cigar lounge to enjoy some sticks and have some conversation. Stixx Cigar Lounge did not disappoint. This is a really cozy and laid-back cigar lounge that offers a nice selection of cigars and quality cocktails.
Unfortunately, we had already had lunch, otherwise we would have partaken in the sushi, which we heard was the best in the city.
Steve and Ben were very gracious, and it felt as though they went out of their way to accommodate us and make us feel special.
Next time we are in town, we will be sure to return and be sure to have our appetites to enjoy the food as well.

Absolutely wonderful experience. The hosts and hostesses were all very knowledgeable and friendly. The humidor had a decent selection of cigars and they had a great menu. It’s a bit pricey but it’s a very classy place, so you have to expect that it will be. Food was pretty good. The jazz band was phenomenal. Overall, absolutely top notch. Entering 8th Day Distillery – Bottle Shop & Cocktail Bar, I encountered a thoughtfully curated selection paired with a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, offering helpful recommendations and thoughtful pairings that enhanced every drink. The cocktails themselves balanced classic craft with modern twists, each presenting clean technique and balanced flavors. The space invites lingering, with comfortable seating and a quiet energy that makes conversations easy and enjoyable.
In addition, the tasting notes revealed a thoughtful approach to flavor development, with each drink telling a small story rather than merely delivering sweetness. The bar’s pace was relaxed, making it easy to sample a few different profiles and compare them without rushing. I left impressed by the attention to detail and the consistency across staff and menu, and I already look forward to returning for another evening of inventive drinks and friendly conversation.

So we would of loved to like this place as the cocktails were good but the customer service by one girl, not so much. We came in and sat at the bar. She looked at us a few times but did not say anything until I said hi then she came over to take our drink order. Not pleasant at all. She spent more time on her phone than anything. There was another girl that eventually showed up, seemed new but very pleasant and sociable. I wish I would of gotten her name.

Of all the local distilleries I’ve tried, 8th Day is my favorite. They have spectacular spirits and an amazing seasonal cocktail menu!
After I tried their products for the first time at the Yelp Totally Bazaar, I had to plan a visit to their bar and bottle shop. I just wish it wasn’t so far off the beaten path. The big, industrial space near the Circle City Industrial Complex is a great place to unwind with a drink, but beyond a handful of artist studios and the Indy Winter Farmers Market, there really isn’t much around that would draw you to the area otherwise.
Despite that, it was still a busy scene on a Saturday evening. We found a spot at the bar and chatted up the bartenders while they made us a couple cocktails — watching them mix everything up is half the fun! They were very friendly, knowledgeable about their products and happy to share the back story of 8th Day. I’m typically a bourbon drinker, and theirs is exceptionally smooth. That combination with their great variety of house-made simple syrups really made these drinks stand out.

Had a great time at 8th Day. The cocktails are very inventive and the menu is constantly changing. The bartender was knowledgeable and whipped us up some amazing cocktails. My personal favorite was “Citrus got real”, but I don’t know if that will do anyone any good since it may be off the menu next week.

Been here a few times. The vibe is dark, cozy, with a good music. They have a good variety of drinks and always creative seasonal fun. Cocktail are about 14+, so not to pricey. Bathrooms are clean with big mirrors. Really want to try their hotdogs, but don’t know how I feel about getting a got dog with drinks. The name sounds like it should be in Brooklyn and I think that’s apart of the fun.

Girlfriends and I arrived for an after dinner drink on a Saturday evening. While the front area and bar were well filled we quickly found a couple of tables to accommodate us in the back part of the space. The tables were clean, cozy chairs and comfy booth bench, good playlist playing at a volume that both allowed us to hear our conversation, vibe, and drown out our adult topics to the surrounding tables . Bartender was friendly and passionate about crafting the drinks, especially my Matcha sour. Reasonable prices for this level of handcrafted cocktails and mature ambiance. Perfect for a sexy date or friend get together. We had fun thank you to the staff, we’ll see you next time we’re in Indy

Thank your Nowhere Special for the early preview last night! The food, atmosphere and cocktails were amazing! My favorite cocktails were the Old Fashioned and the VERY unique Ocean Martini. The ceviche and beef dumpling were also delicious and I can’t wait to have them again.
Definitely hurry into this place when they officially open, snag yourself a few cocktails and amazing food!

This location holds wonderful memories (former Libertine). I expected to be disappointed but was pleasantly surprised.
The bar tender (Leo – who is likely a high level mixologist) asked for my drink preferences and then made the BEST whiskey and malort based cocktail. I typically don’t love either.
Excellent.

First time and I am glad about it! It’s a hidden ge, but the climate is so warm and intimate. A free space to be and the drinks were magical. Magical looking, too. Shout out to Grace for being an attentive server. She made my first time experience quite comfortable and ignatious.

The service provided by Jacob was both amazing and admirable. The receipt reads, “Jacob.” However, I saw a bracelet that reads, “Jake.” The calm under pressure displayed by Jake maintained a positive atmosphere. The restaurant experienced increased foot traffic due to The Queens Concert June 1, 2025. Then the computer system shut down. In the midst of it all Jake went above and beyond to provide excellent customer service. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was electric. It was the Sunday following the Saturday that the Indiana Pacers won the Eastern Conference Championship. If you are in the downtown Indianapolis, Indiana area this restaurant is a great choice! It is where great food and great people meet to maintain a great atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a laid-back yet elevated experience in the heart of the city, this rooftop bar inside the Hyatt is a must-visit. Offering a solid selection of cocktails, wine, and beer, along with a menu of light fare, it’s the perfect place to unwind or kick off your evening. The prices are surprisingly fair for a rooftop venue, and the friendly, attentive service adds to the welcoming atmosphere.
What truly sets this spot apart is the view—absolutely unbeatable. Overlooking Gainbridge Fieldhouse, it’s an ideal vantage point whether you’re in town for a game, a concert, or just soaking in the city vibes. It’s also a prime location for people-watching, with a clear view of the bustling streets below.
Whether you’re a local looking for a new favorite hangout or a visitor wanting to take in the sights with a drink in hand, this rooftop bar delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended!

Nice place, beautiful outdoor roof-top-like patio. Terrific bar tender! Food was great . Tried the nacho and Caesar salad topped with a delicious piece of tasty salmon. The only reason I didn’t give the food 5 stars is because the salad was described as “grilled Romain” on the menu…hopefully I didn’t read it wrong. In any event, the salad was good. Cocktails great!

After two years of frequent stays at the Hyatt House Downtown Indy, I’ll admit the menu at Pivot Bar + Balcony has started to feel… let’s say familiar. But there’s one reason—two nights a week—that I always look forward to dinner here: Angel.
And let me be clear: that’s not just her name, it’s her culinary identity.
Angel is, hands down, the heart and soul of the kitchen on Wednesday and Thursday nights. She doesn’t just make food—she crafts experiences. She’ll ask what flavors I’m into, what I’m craving, and then—like some kind of kitchen wizard—she creates something custom, delicious, and totally within the limits of their in-house ingredients. It’s like a choose-your-own-adventure meal… but every path leads to “WOW.”
Beyond her talent, Angel has that rare kind of warmth that makes you feel like a guest in her home rather than a hotel bar. She regularly steps out of the kitchen to check in, always with a bright smile and genuine care for how you’re enjoying your meal.
So if you’re staying at the Hyatt House and find yourself hungry on a Wednesday or Thursday, do yourself a favor—ask for Angel. Your taste buds will thank you. Probably your soul, too.

Its a rooftop in indy. So not many to choose from, however there are a few things I’d consider.
Seems like the kitchen is used to more of hotel service not so much a restaurant kitchen. Had an experience where i was waiting a lot longer than I predicted.. 1.5hr experience.
Drinks are solid, cocktails are a little on the sweet side but again… It’s outsiiiiddeeee.
Servers aren’t terrible, their kind but the service is not fast. Overall just an experience i was hype about and it started to fall down hill.
I think if you just want a pretty spot. Here is the place. But if you want good food (across the board) and more of a restaurant experience. Then not really the spot.
Beautiful though.

Commodore is one of those “secret” gems that never disappoints. The dim lighting and rotating themes always make for a fun and immersive experience. On my last visit, the spooky theme was in full effect, complete with smoky vapor swirling around, and the drinks and ambience matched the vibe perfectly.
Tyler, along with all the bartenders, is a true master of the trade. They consistently deliver exceptional cocktails with precision and creativity. After years of coming here, I can confidently say I’ve never had a bad experience. Whether you’re in the mood for something classic or experimental, Commodore is always a prime spot to indulge in a great night out.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Commodore, and I must say, it is hands down the best speakeasy I’ve ever been to. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I had stepped back in time to the days of Prohibition.
One of the things that stood out to me was the amazing selection of cocktails. The Old Fashioned and White Russian were both exceptional, perfectly crafted with just the right amount of ingredients to create a rich, full-bodied taste. I highly recommend trying both if you get the chance.
Another unique feature of The Commodore is its hidden entryway. It adds an air of mystery and excitement to the experience, and makes it all the more special. Once you find the entrance, you’ll be transported to a whole new world, one where the rules of society are a little looser and anything seems possible.
I should also note that if you want to enjoy The Commodore, it’s best to get there before 8 pm. After that, the crowds start to pour in and it can get quite busy. But trust me, it’s worth the effort to make it there early.
Overall, The Commodore is a true gem of a speakeasy. From the delicious drinks to the hidden entrance, it has everything you could want in a bar. If you’re a fan of classic cocktails and a unique, vintage atmosphere, then The Commodore is definitely the place for you.

I really enjoyed the bartenders at this place. We can for some afternoon drinks and some tacos but stayed to hang out and ended up chatting it up with the bartenders. The tacos connected to Turner’s was really good. Esp with there being the pick up window in the establishment. This place seemed like a hot spot happy hour place and highly recommend coming with friends.

My new fave! Located in the Stutz building, it offers such a cool vibe in a fun spot. First time visiting and staff was so friendly. Their Polaroid photo “game” is a blast! I went here yesterday with my boyfriend. The bar was really cool. It had a nice vibe to it. We both tried their daiquiris for the first time. They were good. A little on the sour side, but still good. They had plenty of drinks to choose from though. They had classic cocktails, house cocktails, and even limited time Halloween cocktails. They also have this window where you can order tacos. We didn’t try them this time, but we will next time for sure.

A cool new bar in town. It gives dive bar vibe when it’s not. The ambiance is great. The bartenders even better. The cherry on top for me was the little window to the taco spot next door, so you can order taco and get your food, without having to leave the bar. Also, the tacos were exceptional!! I would definitely go back.

Great place to meet with friends downtown. Nice, no-frills vibe with good mixed drinks and cheap beers. The dollar hot dogs are a lifesaver and the Julietta’s tacos next door are fantastic. They have Coors Banquet on draft, which rules.

I love this place! It’s our go to place for date nights. It’s really nice being able to order Julietta’s Tacos and then eat them at Turners with some great drinks! The cocktails are really well made/mixed and for a reasonable price. I’m in my mid-30s and really appreciate the vibe here. Music isn’t to loud, people are inviting and it overall just has a chill, neighborhood bar vibe.

Give a one star because they did not hold to a no line rule for a mgk pop up concert. Invite said no lining up but yet used a line at the door anyways and the people who showed up on time (10 minutes early) did not get to go in. People even had lawn chairs waiting at front. Service I give 2 stars because I did see them go through with a trash bag down the LINE.

Frequently asked questions about cocktail lounges in Indianapolis
What defines a good cocktail lounge in Indianapolis?
A great cocktail lounge in Indianapolis balances craftsmanship with ambience, offering well-made drinks, attentive service, and a comfortable setting. Look for house-made syrups, a thoughtful menu, and staff who can explain flavor profiles and ingredients.
Which neighborhoods are best for cocktail lounges?
Popular areas include Mass Ave (Massachusetts Avenue) for a variety of lounges, Fountain Square for creative concepts, Broad Ripple for nightlife, and downtown Indianapolis near the canal. Each area has a distinct vibe and drink selection.
What should I expect in terms of age requirements and IDs?
Most cocktail lounges in Indianapolis require patrons to be 21+ with a valid ID to order alcoholic drinks. Some venues may enforce stricter checks on weekends or late hours, so bring a government-issued photo ID.
Do cocktail lounges have dress codes?
Many lounges encourage smart-casual attire, while a few maintain a more formal vibe or require a no-sneakers policy. Check the venue’s policy beforehand to avoid surprises at the door, especially for special events.
What are typical price ranges and tipping etiquette?
Expect cocktails ranging from $12–$18 on average, with premium or signature drinks higher. A standard tip of 15–20% for good service is common, and some places add a service charge on the bill, so review the total before paying.
Are reservations recommended, and how do I book?
For popular nights or weekend evenings, making a reservation can ensure seating, especially for groups. Booking is usually possible through the venue’s website or a phone call. Some lounges are walk-in friendly, while others operate on a tabled seating system that prioritizes reservations.
Are there speakeasy-style venues in Indianapolis?
Yes, several speakeasy-inspired lounges offer a concealed or intimate atmosphere, secret entrances, and a curated cocktail program. Look for venues that emphasize story-driven drinks and a discreet entrance for a more covert experience.
Do cocktail lounges offer non-alcoholic options?
Absolutely. Many lounges feature non-alcoholic cocktails, mocktails, or low-ABV drinks crafted with the same attention to quality ingredients, as well as coffee, tea, or artisanal sodas for guests who prefer to avoid alcohol.
What about parking, transit, and accessibility?
Parking availability depends on the area. Downtown and Mass Ave offer street parking, nearby garages, and public transit options. Many lounges are accessible with ramps and elevators, but it’s wise to verify accessibility details with the venue before visiting.
How do seasonal menus and live music affect the experience?
Seasonal menus showcase new ingredients and spirits aligned with harvests and holidays, while some lounges host live music or DJ sets on select nights. These factors can influence crowd size, atmosphere, and wait times, so plan accordingly.
