I have been coming to this practice for many years. Everybody who works there has been very nice to me. Very kind. I see Dr. Hummer and she is just awesome. I love the way. She explains things shows me things on the computer screen and visual things so I know what’s happening to me. I also had cataracts removed from there last summer and the people there were also very nice. I would recommend this place to anybody.

I was unable to pass D.O.T. physical due to vision thus I scheduled an appointment. The appointment was promptly scheduled. When I arrived for the appointment I was treated like an old friend honestly. Lots of questions and tests and scheduled for cataract surgery. The staff was very friendly and they explained everything step by step in language that I could understand. Every question I had was answered with knowledge and understanding.
I would recommend the Greenwood office to anyone.

Very efficient when compared to most healthcare visits. I felt like I received very though eye exams and review. Very thorough. Was out in less than two hours, when they suggested that it might take three. They quickly diagnosed the issue and offer recommendations. They acted with a sense of urgency and it mattered to them.

I had YAG laser surgery on my left eye. It was a great experience. It was really quick. When I walked in I could barely read printed material. When I walked out I had great vision! I plan to schedule the procedure for my right eye soon.

I recently had LASIK surgery, and the entire experience exceeded my expectations. From the initial consultation to the post-op follow-up, the staff were so friendly, thorough and reassuring. They explained every step clearly, before, and during the procedure, which as someone with anxiety, helped so much!
The procedure itself was quick and not at all as bad as I had expected it to be. My distance vision improved almost immediately and is still improving. Due to my prescription and age, I had expectations of needing readers after, (which also was thoroughly explained to me beforehand). The next day, I woke up, looked at my phone and was so pleasantly surprised at how well I could see even without them! My only regret is not doing this sooner!
Overall, I’m extremely happy with the results and grateful to the entire team for making this such a positive experience. I’d highly recommend this clinic to anyone considering LASIK.

5 stars plus 100. Starting at the front desk with Amy & Jenny they were fabulous and loved to tease me on being uncertain about this procedure BUT it was well worth it and I would highly recommend getting it done. Everyone was VERY nice and made us feel welcomed and easy to make the choice to see better with getting lasik done. I was highly impressed with Dr. Smith and how friendly he was. He explained the process before surgery and then during which helped me as I was super nervous.
He helped me off the bed/table and guided me back to my husband afterwards. Then once again I got to talk to those ladies at the front desk before leaving. The process of scheduling and communicating via text was super easy as well. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone & everyone!

I have been thinking about lasik for over a decade now, but have always been scared to go through with it. After hearing an amazing review from a co-worker, I made a consultation here and to my luck, I found out that Dr. Altman was in and had availability. He explained everything that was going to happen and talked me through everything as the surgery was happening. A few days later and my vision is the best it’s ever been and is getting better.

The staff was incredibly kind. Even though I arrived late due to traffic, they still were able to see me. They provide a short video that clearly explains the process of the surgery. The eye exam was quick and efficient, and the doctor went over what to expect if I choose to get LASIK. The staff broke down the pricing thoroughly upfront. They answered all of my questions, making the experience smooth and informative.

Hello,I can not thank all the staff enough for what they did for me from the front desk to the surgeon. I walked in thinking I would not qualify for lasik due to my high prescription and my astigmatism. Not only did I qualify but they did it the same day. They have guaranteed financing too!!!! I wore glasses and contacts for over 40 years and they changed my life in a matter of minutes. I am beyond grateful. Love this place.

I got ICL Surgery at Price Vision Group. They were extremely supportive, kind, and made it as comfortable of an experience as possible. Dr. Price is talented and efficient. Turns out, the anxiety was all for nothing. I’m extremely thankful for my 20/20 vision!!

McKenzie was the tech with me during my second cross linking surgery and she did a really great job at talking me through all of it. My first one I had some mild discomfort and the second time through they did a great job ensuring I was comfortable. Wait times for follow up and other appointments there were frustrating (some appointments taking a full 2hours) however I do believe I received the best care possible. McKenzie you were great thank you so much!

I first went for a free consultation about LASIK, and I was impressed with the attention and extensive care they gave me. They asked plenty of questions, conducted several exams, explained everything clearly, and allowed me to address my concerns. At the end, they were not pushy at all. They gave me the price, explained how everything worked, and I left certain that I would call the next day to schedule my surgery.
I went for the second exam, and again, received the same great treatment! The staff is amazing, the doctors are very knowledgeable and experienced, and I feel confident that I made the best decision by choosing Price Group for my LASIK.

Overall it was a great experience. There are several areas that were slightly bothersome to me. 1. I felt like I was in the NAVY again due to hurry up and waiting most of day one. Moving through the system seemed extremely disorganized at times. Once I actually got to meet with an eye doctor they did make sure and take time to explain and allow you to decide what you wanted. 2. The meeting with the business office person was just pure comical as the gentleman had 0 people skills and I’m sure he was not happy to be there. Overall most of the staff we dealt with were great. The break room is well run and the woman that works there loves her job. They offer a good variety for the people waiting other than patients who can’t have anything that day; On day three I did get to partake.
When you do finally get to go to surgery Debbie in that area was amazing and just a true people person and a wonderful personality. The nurse and I guess surgeon were very good too.
Day two was a much better Experiance and moved at the pace I felt much better. Not sure why they have a full time person to take you from the door to floor three everyday but Bob was nice too.
My biggest chief complaint is after your third day they pretty much wash their hands of you and you’re instructed to go back to your regular eye doctor for follow up and post op check. Unfortunately, I have had several surgeries and usually for the amount of money you spend the follow ups are included.

My husband was there two days this week for cataract surgery. We were both extremely impressed by every single interaction we had with the staff. The process of checking in, testing, waiting for the next professional, and finally the surgery, although long, was very thorough, as it should be. There were so many amenities that made the day very comfortable, from a well stocked break room, recliners, live piano music, and an extremely sweet and attentive woman who circulated through the waiting room asking if she could get anything for anyone. Everyone seems to really enjoy their job there. We would definitely recommend them to friends and family. Thank you to everyone for your kindness.

I love everyone at Eye Specialists. They are friendly, kind, intelligent and trustworthy. I went in for blurry vision in my left eye after cataract surgery in November, 2021. I was looking forward to the process. And i wasn’t disappointed. I was thrilled with my results and couldn’t be more grateful. I highly recommend Eye Specialists. Thank you so much! Oh! Don’t forget to get some coffee and Danish or something else. Delicious!

The people were so nice. They made me feel so special. The doctors are amazing. My vision is better than it has ever been. They even have a car service if you do not have a ride. I have never been to a doctors office that made me feel so special and with doctors that are so amazing. My doctor sang to me through the surgery and did an amazing job on my eye. There is an old song that says it all I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW.

My experiences throughout each day were exceptional. Everyone from the receptionist, staff, technicians and doctors were friendly, kind and professional. I felt I was in the best care at each stage of each process. Having written information and instructions as well as the videos were helpful and appreciated. Procedures were explained and time was given to ask questions and at no time did I feel rushed. I am grateful Dr. Kimberly Forniss referred me to Eye Specialists of Indiana. Thank you for your care.

☆ 5/5
Staff was professional and friendly. Upon arrival, they moved us through the process quickly, timely. Very informative. Their follow up has been excellent. The surgery seems to be a success. The doctors and nurses were extremely knowledgeable. Kudos to Kelly who ran the snack room. She was very friendly and came out to greet everyone, however, when she left to go to lunch nobody attended to that area which made people walk in and out because it wasn’t stocked. Sometimes Kelly got so wrapped up in conversation with families she forgot about that area for a bit and left it unattended. Even a nurse commented on that.
Couple things that should be addressed is the first time we came in the door, Bill was sitting at a chair, did not get up, just pointed to a clip board and told us to sign in. No welcome or any greeting.
Another thing people, should be told up front is that there will or can be bleeding in your eyes due to the way they have to hold your eye.
Overall a wonderful place for surgery that I would highly recommend.

My husband and I had cataract surgery at the same time. At first, I was extremely nervous and, as always, my husband was calm. After the first day I realized what the next day would be and I was very much looking forward to that. It was a smooth and organized process and each staff member I met were patient, caring and so willing to answer my questions even though they had already addressed them. Also, Kelly in the snack area, was kind and her homemade cookies were delicious. We utilized the transportation system and the drivers were very professional, encouraging, safe, and on time. Great personnel! I would recommend Eye Specialists to everyone.

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience at Greenberg LASIK!!! The staff is AMAZING! So kind and knowledgeable. They take their time to make sure you fully understand the process and procedure. The initial exam is very thorough and on the day of my procedure the exam was done again just to ensure that everything was correct. After that, it was off to meet Dr Greenberg! He is super nice. He explained every single step of the procedure as it was happening and made it a comfortable experience. From beginning to end was less than 10 minutes. I am currently 6 hours out of surgery and feel GREAT! I can’t wait for the next few days to see the actual results as I continue to heal. Pain was minor for only a couple of hours. Felt like I had been poked in the eye. Nothing that is intolerable. I highly recommend to anyone considering it but on the fence. I am the 5th person from my place of work and all have had a positive experience. Thanks to Dr Greenberg and his entire staff!!

I was nervous and had anxiety and was also skeptical of the procedure. The Physician and staff made me so comfortable. The procedure was a piece of cake literally. No pain at all. I’m on day 7 from having Lasik and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I was worried for nothing. A ten minute procedure and I can see so clearly. No more contacts or glasses. I highly recommend Greenberg LASIK. Trust me you will not be disappointed.

I can not recommend Greenberg LASIK enough to anyone interested in getting the procedure. Professionalism from start to finish and very efficient. The procedure pre and post op was explained in great detail with questions welcomed from all. If you are nervous about the procedure, I will say it is over before you know it and is not uncomfortable in the slightest as you are well informed prior to it. Physicians and staff members are 10/10. Make an appointment and don’t look back !

Our experience with the Greenberg lasik office and the actual procedure was just fine. Results were great, no complications. My son can see clearly with his own eyes for the first time in his life, all great stuff! One thing they CAN and should improve though, is the timing of valium prior to procedure. They gave him the meds and within 10 minutes had him back for procedure. He was internally freaking out during lasik, and it took everything in him not to jump out of the chair. He finally felt the effects of the Valium about 30 min after we left, not very helpful for the procedure.
Our experience with Alphaeon though is the main reason I’m reviewing, and has been the WORST experience I’ve ever had with a lender. DO NOT USE ALPHAEON! none of the “benefits” are worth it!
I was told I could use my HSA to pay the monthly financing payments, which is why I decided to sign up for it. But alphaeon denied the HSA payments that my bank sent 3 months in a row, and charged me late fees for the missed payments. They accept bank account info for direct deposit, but won’t accept the HSA debit. It’s been a nightmare dealing with them. I have to pay out of a different bank account and reimburse myself with my HSA. The hassle of doing all the extra steps and fighting for late fees to be removed when my HSA bank sent payments long before due dates, is why I will NEVER use alphaeon again. Complete waste of time and energy. Extremely frustrating to deal with, and I believe I was bait and switched at greenburg’s office when offered this lender option at time of service, very deceiving. I never would have signed up if I had known how much of a constant headache this would have been!
There’s another review of a guy who said he had to pay thousands extra bc of problems with the lender. I asked about that in the office and the office manager said “that’s because the guy didn’t make payments for 6 months!” Well, now I know why. My bank was making monthly payments, alphaeon denied method of payment, next thing I know I have 3 months of late fees, no payments made, and have to completely switch up payment method and pretty much void the entire benefit of the 2 year interest free financing!
I have reimbursed myself through HSA, and when that clears I’m completely paying off alphaeon this week to get rid of the dirty bandaids! Heed my warning, do NOT use alphaeon! Pay Greenburg with your credit card or something instead!

The Greenberg Lasik was awesome. Everyone was friendly. They were super flexible with my schedule Plus, the results are great. I am only about 10 hours out from my operation and I see about 90% better than without my glasses. I know things will get worse before they get better, but I am so excited to live without glasses. Thank you Dr Greenburg!

How do I begin to explain in a few words what is life-altering? I will just stick to the facts as much as possible. I enjoyed the entire team from the first moments I met them! Okay, so much for just facts and no emotions.
This was an excellent adventure that I could not imagine being better (unless free)! I could not imagine a more professional and emotionally intelligent team! I keep using exclamation points, but I am really excited about how well they performed. If this was back in my Army days, I would have bought them all drinks.
They immediately sensed my apprehension and put me at ease by explaining every nuance of the procedure. They never sold me anything but drew me in with advanced data and specific information pertaining to ophthalmic concerns. They worked together with the precision and synchronization of a pit crew at the 500 or an elite tactical unit.
Every member was exceedingly pleasant and knowledgeable. It is obvious they enjoy what they do, changing people’s lives for the better. The crew is so extraordinary until I almost forgot to discuss the actual procedure.
Counterintuitive to what one may imagine, the laser-meets-eye part was almost not worth mentioning. I had to hear my wife’s pleasant pleading *not nagging* for ten years, only to realize she was right! She was so right, I should have done this a decade ago. Dr. G was a Superbowl MVP Quarterback with Melinda and the family as a wonderful starting lineup.
I am very pleased. I already see better without my glasses than I have since my first prescription 40 years ago!
Thank you all. May God bless you richly!

Dr Whitson and his entire staff are very pleasant and focused on care of the patient. I have been his patient for many years, including eye surgeries. Appointments are reasonably on time, and exams are efficient.
However, I recently rejected new glasses made for me as they did not provide adequate vision correction (prisms). I returned the glasses on May 15 and am still waiting as of July 12 for a refund, after numerous calls to the optical and billing departments. If not for this, I would rate 5 stars instead of 4.

The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and didn’t seem over worked like other health care places. The office was tolerant and pleasant about me being late because I got lost on the way to the hospital and in the building to find the office. Much appreciated. I liked Dr Shoemaker. She was thorough in listening to me and explaining things. She was very positive about my efforts with A1C goals. I liked that she spoke kindly about her staff support. I liked that the appointment was made quickly. Many times I’ve waited months. Also. I like that the office has women providers.

I have always gotten very good care from Dr. LaTona. The office staff is friendly and polite. My only negative is it’s always a 2 hour time frame for your appointment. Don’t know if that is because of the heavy patient load or another reason

The whole staff was so nice. The answered every question I had and was very patient with me. Every step was explained to me and the prep took longer than the actual cataract surgery, which I can’t explain with anything short of amazing. I never saw a thing, never felt a thing! A thorough checkup the next day and now I’ve got 20/30 vision. I’ll get my left eye done next week but not nearly as anxious, in fact, looking forward to it even more. Thank you Dr Feng, you are amazing!

Customer Reviews
A couple months after my SMILE procedure, I feel it’s safe to say it’s worth it!
Getting consultation for vision correction surgery was on my to do list for the past year or two. Good reviews and being one of the few places nearby to offer SMILE brought me to Elite. Eye charts and measurements were done during consultation in June, and questions like “Is Lasik or SMILE more advantageous for me” were covered.
Procedure day came about a month later following another eye exam. A rundown of the procedure, anti anxiety medicine taken, and a few moments in a quiet room were done beforehand. After that, lay down on a medical bed, numbing eye drops, lower eyelids held, and then the machine overhead goes to work. During this time a lens goes over one eye at a time, you focus on a light for a few seconds, the machine raises and a couple wipes are done to the eye. When this was done, no pain was felt on one eye, and I only a very slight sting on the other eye while getting lasered.
My vision was foggy for a while after leaving the medical bed. A few hours later following a long nap, everything looked good and clear. My night vision is still somewhat fuzzy and see some blurring around certain lights. It seems to be getting better slowly but surely though.
All things considered, getting a SMILE done was a good choice, and Elite is the right place for the task. The staff are all kind, caring and enthusiastic every step of the way. The office is a relaxed environment with calm music playing and nature scenes showing on screens throughout the place.
Many thanks to the staff of Elite!

I was grateful that I was seen today. I was late for my appointment. I had a small emergency which hindered me from being on time. They were gracious enough to still see me. I really need to be seen because of my cataracts. I was able to get my surgeries scheduled. The nurse and doctor were kind and professional in their care to me.

I continue to be pleased by the entire staff at Abrams Eyecare Westside location. My wait was short in their very pleasant waiting area; the technician was excellent; checking out was speedy and I received a copy of my prescription without even having to ask. I stopped at the prescription desk and after less than five minutes had my frames adjusted. I am in my”golden” years and appreciate being treated with warmth, courtesy and respect and I would certainly not get on that racetrack that is 465 to make the trip if I did not receive optimum service.

Catalog of services offered by ophthalmologists in Indianapolis
Comprehensive eye examinations and diagnostic testing
In Indianapolis, ophthalmologists perform comprehensive eye examinations to assess both vision and ocular health. Services typically include refraction for eyeglasses, binocular vision assessment, and a dilated eye exam to inspect the retina and optic nerve. Ongoing care may utilize ocular imaging such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fundus photography for early detection of conditions. The results establish a baseline and guide personalized follow-up schedules based on age, risk factors, and medical history.
Cataract evaluation and surgery planning
Ophthalmologists in Indianapolis provide cataract evaluation to determine lens cloudiness and its impact on vision. They discuss IOL options including monofocal, multifocal, and toric IOLs, and plan phacoemulsification surgery with precision. Preoperative assessments address visual outcomes, astigmatism correction, and risk management, while postoperative care emphasizes recovery expectations and eye drop regimens.
Glaucoma evaluation and management
Glaucoma services cover intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement and regular assessment of the optic nerve and visual field. Management plans may include prescription eye drops, oral medications, or advanced options such as laser therapy (e.g., trabeculoplasty) and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). Early detection and consistent monitoring are emphasized to preserve peripheral vision and overall eye health.
Retina care and diseases
Retina-focused care encompasses screening and treatment for conditions like diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal detachments. Diagnostic tools include OCT imaging and fluorescein angiography, while treatments may involve injections of medication, laser therapy, or vitrectomy to preserve or restore central vision.
Refractive surgery and vision correction options
Refractive services address myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism through procedures such as LASIK, PRK, and refractive lens exchange. Some cases utilize wavefront technology or other advanced measurement systems to tailor corrections. Counseling focuses on visual outcomes, recovery timelines, and potential risks to help patients choose the most suitable option.
Pediatric ophthalmology and vision development
Pediatric care centers on childhood vision screening and the early identification of issues like amblyopia and strabismus. Ophthalmologists provide pediatric eye care through comprehensive exams, evaluation of binocular vision, and treatment plans that may include patching therapy, glasses, or surgical considerations when needed to support healthy visual development.
Dry eye and surface disorders
Surface eye diseases include dry eye syndrome, meibomian gland dysfunction, and blepharitis. Management may involve lubricating drops, lid hygiene, punctal plugs, and lifestyle or environmental adjustments. In select cases, advanced therapies such as thermal treatments or anti-inflammatory medications may be recommended to restore comfort and tear function.
Ocular trauma and emergency eye care
Emergency ophthalmology covers urgent assessment and treatment for eye injuries, including corneal abrasions, foreign bodies, and chemical exposures. Rapid evaluation aims to protect vision, with urgent referrals and follow-up care to prevent complications and preserve long-term eye health.
Frequently asked questions about ophthalmologists in Indianapolis
What is an ophthalmologist and what do they do in Indianapolis?
Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who specialize in eye health, capable of providing medical eye care, diagnostic testing, and surgical procedures. In Indianapolis, they diagnose and treat conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal tears, perform eye surgeries when needed, and offer comprehensive eye exams to monitor vision over time for patients of all ages. They may also collaborate with primary care doctors, optometrists, and other specialists to coordinate care and ensure eye health is preserved.
How can I choose an ophthalmologist in Indianapolis?
Start with trusted referrals from your primary care physician, family, or friends who have had similar needs. Verify that the physician is board-certified and check for subspecialty expertise such as retina, glaucoma, or pediatric ophthalmology if relevant. Consider the hospital affiliations, the availability of same-day appointments, emergency care, and the doctor’s communication style. Reading patient reviews and confirming language accessibility and convenient locations can also help you make a thoughtful choice.
What should I expect during a comprehensive eye exam with an ophthalmologist?
A thorough visit typically includes a dilated eye examination to inspect the retina and optic nerve, measurement of intraocular pressure, and tests of visual acuity. The doctor may evaluate eye movement, color vision, and pupil responses, as well as review your medical history, current medications, and any symptoms you are experiencing. In some cases, additional imaging such as oct or wide-field photography may be used to guide care.
Do ophthalmologists treat children in Indianapolis?
Yes. Pediatric ophthalmology focuses on the visual development of infants and children, addressing conditions like amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye misalignment), congenital eye diseases, and refractive errors. Early screening and timely treatment can help prevent long-term vision issues, and many ophthalmologists in Indianapolis coordinate with pediatricians or pediatric ophthalmology specialists for child-friendly care and family-centered services.
What eye surgeries are commonly performed by ophthalmologists in Indianapolis?
Common procedures include cataract surgery with IOL implantation, glaucoma surgery (including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery or MIGS), and refractive surgeries such as LASIK or PRK. Ophthalmologists may also perform retina repairs for retinal tears or detachments, corneal transplants, and various eyelid or orbital procedures when indicated. Postoperative care generally emphasizes infection prevention, inflammation control, and gradual restoration of vision.
How should I prepare for cataract surgery and what is the recovery like?
Preparation includes completing preoperative assessments, confirming current medications and allergies, arranging for postoperative transportation, and understanding the eye drop regimen prescribed to minimize infection and inflammation. On the day of surgery, you’ll follow fasting or medication instructions as advised. Afterward, expect blurred vision for a short period, temporary discomfort, and routine eye protection. Most people resume normal activities gradually over days to a few weeks, guided by your surgeon’s postoperative instructions.
What are common eye diseases ophthalmologists in Indianapolis treat?
Common conditions include cataracts, glaucoma with its impact on the optic nerve, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Other frequent concerns include dry eye, blepharitis, conjunctivitis, and retinal detachments, all of which require accurate diagnosis and a personalized treatment plan to protect or restore vision.
What should I do in an eye emergency in Indianapolis?
For sudden vision loss, severe eye pain, a penetrating injury, chemical exposure, or a foreign object in the eye, seek immediate care at an emergency department or urgent care, or contact your ophthalmologist if you have after-hours contact information. Do not rub the eye, avoid applying pressure, and avoid attempting to remove a foreign body yourself. If available, bring any glasses or contact lens information and a list of current medications to guide urgent assessment.
Will my health insurance cover ophthalmology visits and procedures?
Most health plans cover necessary eye care such as annual exams, diagnostic testing, and medically indicated procedures like cataract surgery or glaucoma treatment. Coverage varies by plan and the service, and some elective refractive surgeries may not be covered. Expect potential copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs. It is wise to confirm in-network status, obtain any required preauthorization, and discuss an estimated financial plan with the ophthalmology office before treatment.
How can patients participate in research or clinical trials related to ophthalmology in Indianapolis?
Patients may have opportunities to participate in clinical trials exploring new treatments, devices, or diagnostic methods. Information about trials is often available through hospital research offices, ophthalmology departments, or clinical trial registries. Eligibility depends on factors such as age, health status, and the specific condition under study. Participation can advance eye care and may provide access to cutting-edge options, but it also involves discussing potential risks and commitments with the study team before enrolling.
