Customer Reviews
I have since reached out to 1150 for a certificate of completion to show I have some training in software development for reference but have not heard back from this institution. After multiple attempts over the course of several weeks, they have failed to respond or provide the requested documents or contact.
However they were quick to take money in order to attend. They responded frequently to get new people to sign up. My advice to you is to steer clear of this program.
I decided to stick with the software development course. Many of us were expecting to get a lot of JavaScript experience, but we were then told it would be all C#.
The Canvas course was not setup at all when we started, and I felt that we paid thousands for no instruction and tasks to figure out on our own. I understand that independent problem-solving is very important in this field, but we wasted so much time trying to figure out the basics on our own and were given busy-work tasks to fill up our time. When I voiced my concerns to student success, they were all dismissed. I felt like I had been scammed, having put my previous career on hold, and ended up dropping the course.
Overall, I had a very unpleasant experience here. The instructors were kind and helpful, but this company is predatory.
DO NOT ENROLL HERE. They will take your money, set you up with a cool instructor, and your experience will slowly go downhill from there. My instructor for the first half of the course was luckily pretty awesome; but after him…yeah, no. No thanks. Please, if you (the reader) take reviews seriously: go elsewhere.
I had never even thought about going into tech (I thought it was mostly for super smart young people), but a co-worker of mine recommended EFA to me. I attended a free course and absolutely fell in love with coding. And thus, I was on my path to a new career.
The instructors were great! You can tell they really have a passion for teaching, because, well...with their skills they could certainly make more money somewhere else. So it's nice to know that they really do have your back and best interest at heart.
Career Services - I think the negative reviews about CS are mostly due to mismanaged expectations. The biggest benefits of CS is resume writing (they helped me greatly) and getting your resume in front of employers, if the opportunity arises. They also do interview prep, but I never used that service. And I think that is about it. Don't expect to get placed in a job via CS. They can help, but ultimately it's your career, it's up to you to do the work. Having said that, if you've never worked in Tech, you will probably submit a lot of resumes, get a ton of rejection emails, have interviews and then get ghosted, it's just how it is. Breaking into tech is not easy, but if you put in the work and stay the course, you will eventually get there. Network! Network! Network!
All in all, I loved my time at Eleven Fifty and I am forever grateful for the skills and training they provided me. I felt like there were some unfair negative reviews; which prompted me to write this...not for them, but for potential future students. Their programs work and I can attest to that, but you still have to have the fortitude and determination to make it work. At the end of the day, it's your career, you get out what you put in it.
I hope this helps someone.
Only 4 stars, because never give a perfect score. "One bite. Everyone knows the rules" 🙂
Good luck. It took a few days to get in touch with anyone even after leaving voicemails and sending several emails. Once they get you enrolled and get their pay, it’s very unlikely you will be able to get ahold of anyone if anything comes up, and then they’ll just remove you from Slack with no explanation. If you miss a day or two of the full time program, you might as well drop out as you are never going to catch up.
Save your time and sanity, check out a self led coding platform for $10-20 a month.
I also feel as if they should start students out in Python, JavaScript instead of C# to get the fundamentals down, instead of a language that is a dumpster fire with platform dependencies, builds and “Visual Studio”. .NET is

I’m going to get them setup on teamtreehouse and start them out with Git fundamentals, then onto Python before we go full stack JavaScript.
