Nice out of the way grocery store with a full deli selection, including some off beat products like Hog Head Cheese. While the produce selection was very limited, they had real yams.

Reminds me of Fresh Thyme just a bit more intimate and darker vibe. It’s also a bit smaller too. Overall it’s good though. Good variety and quality. I also like that they have old school candies like pick n mix, advent calendars, and even kids friendly ones that are super sour and whatnot.

I purchase party platters from this location often, at least once a month. This was the first time trying the chicken bites, and I honestly was better off probably getting from Walmart. At $36 a tray, I had higher expectations. Past experiences the food has been delicious. I was so disappointed in these chicken bite trays, they were so burnt out and tasted like the had been sitting under a heat lamp for 3 days and thrown into the tray last minute. They were so hard to eat. Won’t be purchasing again.

While my experience with employees and overall inventory and store cleanliness remains positive, what is going on with the quality of their snow crab? I usually buy them 2-3 times each month and I’m not sure if they have changed where they are buying but the quality is definitely not what it used to be. Price per pound has dropped significantly but so has the quality. Bring back the high quality legs and I’ll gladly pay more. Frankly, if I want low quality product I’ll go to a discount store.

EDIT: unsure if I was heard or if the change was made by happenstance but shortly after my review and Fresh Market comment, the quality of the snow crab legs that I purchase almost weekly now has changed drastically for the better. It’s not just about one product it’s about being heard and the effort to make the change. THANK YOU FRESH MARKET!

Always clean. I visit here once a month following dentist appointments. I get flowers for my wife and something to cook for dinner. The team behind the butcher’s counter is always helpful with dinner suggestions, and the bakery usually assists with something sweet to have for desert.

I went in for fresh ground sirloin at 1:20PM I was told none was available and the butcher was leaving early for the day. Totally unacceptable.. especially when the store is open until 9PM. Even Meijer or Kroger doesn’t pull this stunt.

Whenever I need Mexican ingredients I come here. I can always find everything I want. I don’t often get meat as prices are a little higher, but quality is good and butchers are friendly and helpful. They all seem to speak English so explaining what you need isn’t a problem. For me this is the best Mexican store in my area.

I can’t wait to get to know more of the store and products. As an English speaker, I never once felt out of place. I love how helpful and wonderful this place is. I love this place to bits. I think they have best sandwiches in Indianapolis by a long shot. I’ll take the Goose Sandwich any day of the week and they also provide quick and warming service. I ordered the Batali, sea salt cookie, and a chai latte. The cookie was so good not too much sugar but the right amount. The latte.. I dont think that it was prepared right. It tasted like pepper. The sandwhich was so good! Its super tiny but it filled me up. It’s very crunchy and a little bit spicy. 8.5/10

We stopped in while visiting friends over Thanksgiving week and this shop blew me away. They were filling holiday orders out back and inside was jamming as well. Can’t wait to come back in and get a few sandwiches and oysters next time we are in town! Also thanks for the guanciale, we can’t find it in our small town and it made our carbonara perfect!

Love this place! True to an Italian market you can get in Indiana! My only complaint is when you order takeout the sandwiches are half the size and for the same price. Attached photos from their online order pics to what you really get. Kinda disappointed cause when I go in person they make the sandwiches better but this is the 3rd time ordering online that I get a sandwich with about half the ingredients. I know businesses are trying to save money but charging $16 for a sandwich with about 2 oz worth of ingredients is a little pricey.

Yummy sandwiches…

We had the Goose — Cured ham, mozzarella, basil, olive oil and pepper.

We also had the battalia, which was a bit spicy with those peppers. The arrabbiata was not too spicy.

I been to this store so many time because it’s just 5 mins from my house and I honestly like a lot but the customer service is horrible. The other day I went at 8:35pm and the man in the door close the door in my facesaying their closing. I would off understand if it had been even 10 mins before closing but no word, or say sorry, just signal and super rude. Very disappointed. The owner needs to do something about this. I am sure I am.nit the only one this has happened.

Sometimes you go into a place and you never know what to expect. In the very back of the store is a little restaurant. The food was delicious and the people were nice. There was not beef available at the time. I can understand why that is. We opted for the Chicken Shawarma and the Mendi Chicken.
Both were excellent with good portion sizes. We walked out of there very very full and happy, and we remain so while at the airport now many hours later.

This place has really gone downhill and is no longer a good spot for the Muslim community. The staff has completely forgotten how to treat customers. The butchers were beyond rude—not just to me but to others waiting in line—and the young black dude at the register wasn’t any better.

They’ve raised meat prices twice in the last six months, going from $5.99 to $6.49, and now $6.99. When I asked about the increase, the cashier (black dude) sarcastically told me to come back later when the price “goes low” for me. I didn’t argue because I had my 5-year-old nephew with me, but it was really disrespectful.

It feels like the owner is just being greedy, constantly hiking prices. This used to be our go-to place for meat and groceries, but not anymore. A lot of people in the southside Muslim community feel the same way about how poorly this place is run now.

If you’re looking for halal meat and want to be treated well, go to Saraga or Al Basha instead. Don’t waste your time or money here.

(This review is for the restaurant which is inside the market) Food is good but service is very subpar. If you’re willing to put up with some confused conversation and extremely long wait times, definitely come visit.

This is Yemeni restaurant with lots of meat options and big platters to share. I recommend a Shawarma sandwich. The Mendi and Mixed Meat Platter was good too. The food seemed to have a bit too much salt in my opinion, but overall it was pretty good.

BEST RESTAURANT IN INDIANAPOLIS, honestly probably in the entire state, midwest, this side of the Mississippi. Anyway, my husband and I lived in Indianapolis for 2 years and had the absolute pleasure of dining here at least once if not several times a week. The food, staff, the vibes, are all amazing. Choosing what to eat is the most difficult part because it’s all so good. The beer, wine, and drink selections are also *chefs kiss*. They also have a beautiful market of groceries and of course, meats. If you’re in the area and don’t go here, your trip to Indianapolis is all for naught.

Really not good enough to cost $18 out the door.

It did hit the spot but it’s too dry and the bun looks like something from Meijer.

EDIT: It’s dry because it’s overcooked. If you need mayo and mustard to keep it from being dry you might be at a dairy queen. Also what kind of “butcher shop” chargers a 20% service fee.

We went and tried the brunch menu today. I will be dreaming about this baked ricotta pancake for awhile. It kind of reminded me of gulab jamun balls you can get at indiana restaurants. Very delicious. The biscuits and gravy were just okay. The biscuits was great but the gravy was meh. The chorizo casserole was good as well! They have a basic breakfast platter as well.

They were very kind and quick to get our food. We will go back!

My wife and I took a camping trip this weekend so I decided to upgrade a bit from the typical Kroger meat for our campfire meals and boy, did Turchetti’s deliver! The flavor of the meat was so rich and juicy, and it cooked so perfectly on the campfire! We thoroughly enjoyed every bite!

I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for high quality meats and groceries. Their customer service was exceptional and the selection of items is impressive. I can’t wait to visit again soon!

First time in a German, butcher shop, and it was a great experience. We weren’t sure what exactly we wanted, but the lady working behind the counter was really patient and helped us pick what wursts would work best for the recipe we were trying to make.

When you walk in, there’s a counter with all sorts of meats. They also have items listed that they can get you from the back!

The place felt super authentic!

Well went to the website and saw that they still take bear meat to smoke and make sausage out of. Called last week to make sure and the lady said yes anytime after October 1st they do. Took the meat in today and was told that they no longer take bear meat in. Very poor customer service from them is all I got to say. Will now find another place to take all of my different kinds of wild game meats. .

Frequently asked questions about butcher shops in Indianapolis

What types of meat can I find at butcher shops in Indianapolis?

Butcher shops in Indianapolis typically offer a wide variety of meats including beef, pork, poultry, and often lamb or veal. Many shops also provide specialty items such as game meat (like venison or bison) and marinated or pre-seasoned cuts for convenience. Furthermore, some butcher shops may also offer locally sourced meats, which can support local farms and provide fresher options.

How does a butcher shop differ from a grocery store?

While both butcher shops and grocery stores sell meat, butcher shops often focus on providing higher quality products and personalized service. Butchers are typically more knowledgeable about different cuts of meat and can offer cooking tips, while grocery stores may have a larger variety of products but with less expertise in meat selection and preparation.

Can I request specific cuts of meat at a butcher shop?

Yes, most butcher shops encourage customers to request specific cuts of meat. Whether you are looking for a particular thickness or a less common cut, butchers can often accommodate special requests, ensuring that you get exactly what you need for your recipe. It’s advisable to call ahead or visit during less busy times for the best service.

What should I consider when choosing a butcher shop?

When selecting a butcher shop, consider factors such as location, range of products, and the quality of customer service. Look for a shop that offers freshness, has knowledgeable staff, and is transparent about their sourcing practices. Reading customer reviews and asking for recommendations from friends or family can also help you make an informed decision.

Do butcher shops typically offer organic or grass-fed meat?

Many butcher shops in Indianapolis do offer organic or grass-fed meat options for customers seeking healthier alternatives. Availability may vary by shop, so it’s a good idea to inquire specifically about these products. Organic and grass-fed meats are often considered more sustainable and can provide enhanced flavor and nutritional benefits.

What are some tips for properly storing meat purchased from a butcher shop?

To ensure the longevity of your meat, proper storage is crucial. Keep meat in its original packaging until you are ready to use it, and store it in the coldest part of your refrigerator. If you plan to keep it for more than a few days, consider freezing it. Wrap the meat tightly in plastic wrap or use a vacuum sealer for optimal freshness and to prevent freezer burn.

What are common cooking techniques for different types of meat?

Different types of meat require varying cooking techniques for the best results. For example, beef can be roasted, grilled, or braised, whereas pork may be best when slow-cooked or grilled. Poultry is often roasted or sautéed, while lamb may be grilled or braised. Each technique can enhance the flavors and tenderness of the meat, so consider learning which method works best for the cut you choose.

Are there any special services that butcher shops provide?

Many butcher shops offer additional services beyond simply selling meat. These can include custom butchering, where customers can specify how they want their meat processed, as well as marinating or preparing specialty items like sausages or cured meats. Some shops may even provide cooking classes or recipes to help customers make the most of their purchases.

How can I support local butcher shops?

Supporting local butcher shops can positively impact your community. Consider shopping at these establishments instead of larger grocery chains, as this helps sustain local businesses. You can also spread the word through word-of-mouth recommendations and social media. Participating in any community events or promotions they may host can further strengthen your support.

What is the role of a butcher in food safety?

Butchers play a vital role in maintaining food safety standards. They are trained in proper food handling techniques to prevent contamination and ensure that all products are fresh.
