We love Uptown Pup and so do our dogs! We use them for doggy day care, boarding, and grooming. The staff truly love our girls, communicate thoroughly, and even post some great pictures.

When we show up for day care the dogs push each other out of the way to be the first out of the car.

Highly recommend.

Our dog attends daycare once a week, and it has been a fantastic experience from day one. The staff is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and consistently keeps us informed, ensuring that our pup is happy, healthy, and thriving while in their care.

She absolutely loves going—so much so that she runs (literally!) into the building with excitement every time we arrive. It’s clear the team genuinely cares about each dog’s individual needs and works hard to make sure every dog enjoys their day to the fullest.

There are not enough words for the amount of happiness Uptown Pup has brought us and our pup, Sally. In fact, we won’t take her anywhere else. See, Sally was a true Houdini when it came to getting out of her crate/enclosure, etc. So, we have always put 100% of our trust into the wonderful staff at Uptown Pup.

The staff is also so responsive and easy to work with! They keep in contact, answer questions and go above and beyond with their customer service.

Since our dog prefers human vs. dog interaction, Sally was one of the pioneering dogs of Uptown Pup’s “Enrichment” program where dogs get 1:1 time with a human to play games with. Josiah is Sally’s favorite enrichment friend – he knows so much about her and pushes her to become even smarter than she already is.

Our dog has been going to daycare at Uptown Pup for 3 years, and it is her favorite place! She is always so excited when we pull up, and we love knowing that she is having a fun, safe day when she is there. The staff are so caring to the dogs, and we know our pup is always in good hands at Uptown Pup. They also helped us with puppy training and do an amazing job grooming our curly golden doodle. We highly recommend to anyone with a dog in Indianapolis!

Our dog Luna has attended several training classes at Uptown Pup with Jimmy, most recently the advanced class! We have learned so much throughout our time in classes. Jimmy’s style of teaching is fun, practical and puts us as dog owners at ease. Every class, we come away with additional tips and tricks that help us to understand Luna’s behavior and bond with her! There was a point in time where every walk with Luna was so stressful, and now we have so much fun being out with her 🙂 It’s been such a joy watching Luna transform and learn new things. I highly recommend Uptown Pup and working with Jimmy!

Our pups love Uptown Pup. Whenever we come for grooming or boarding, their tails just wag and wiggle. The entire team spoils them and treats them like their own. We always feel good and safe leaving our boys in their care. We give them two paws up.

We adopted a deaf pit mix puppy into a home with a six year old pit mix we adopted 4 years ago with severe anxiety issues. The puppy was aggressive with the adult which was very concerning to us. As a last resort I decided that board and train was my only choice to save this puppy, and it did. It’s only been 2 weeks since he has been home- but we’ve got this! It’s on me to see the pre-aggressive behavior and intervene and I can. Board and train is a big step emotionally and financially. We have experience with special needs dogs but I was over my head here. My first responsibility was to the existing dog, and the idea of surrendering a deaf puppy was so disheartening I would have tried anything to avoid it. The bottom line here is this,. Jon and Indy K9 saved this dog’s life, there is just no other way to say it.

We brought our rescue dog here for obedience training and were very impressed with the results! Our dog has a ton of energy, but Jon and his team helped improve her demeanor and taught us how to effectively walk and train her with a pinch and ecollar. Highly recommend! We also appreciate the chance to board our dog here from time to time so she can see familiar faces.

I chose Indy K-9 (owned by Jonathan Combs) as a trainer for my dog, Boss. I did extensive online research and conducted phone interviews searching for the right trainer. After a lot of research and speaking with Jonathan directly, I selected his 30 day course for Boss and couldn’t be happier with the results! Boss is well behaved and Jonathan has taught me so much as a new dog owner. I’ve had many questions over the last year and he’s always available to promptly reply and help me be the best dog owner I can be. Boss now visits Jonathan for boarding when I’m out of town for work. I never worry about Boss when I’m gone. I know Jonathan’s depth of knowledge, dedication to his clients (human and furry ones ) and passion for the well-being of dogs are used to keep Boss physically safe, mentally happy, and emotionally secure. I’m thankful that Boss and I found Indy K-9!

Took My Dog Joker to Jon at Indy K-9 due to Joker needing some behavior training. Honestly I was a bit skeptical due to past experiences with other Dog trainers. So I didn’t know what to expect when it came to results at the end.
Fortunately Jon was the first trainer that gave me the training results that he said he would in regards to Jokers training.
And I am Very Happy I decided to have Indy K-9 do Jokers Training.
I know there is still some at Home work of Me being consistent and working with Joker daily to keep and further the training Joker received from Indy K-9 as expected with any training, but Jon was able to get a Good start on it with Joker and got me to a point that I am Very Happy with.

Our family was very hesitant to send our very small chihuahua to training for 4 weeks, but it was a great decision. She had several behavior issues we needed resolved: territorial, biting and overall doing whatever she wanted. Upon her return she is the same dog, but she now is able to listen and obey all the commands Jon taught her. We are now 4 months out and she still knows what is expected of her and obeys all of her commands. I cannot recommend Jon enough.

First off, let me say that this was a very big decision for our family and we took a lot of time researching our options. I couldn’t imagine being without our pup for 4 weeks. After meeting with Jon, I felt confident and fully comfortable with our choice. Winnie, our Great Dane/Doberman puppy, isn’t a “new dog” after training. She is the same amazing girl, but with more confidence and manners. She now has a strong foundation and understands what is expected. She is much happier than when we tried other training methods. Obviously there is still work involved on our part, but Jon made sure we had all of the tools to succeed and was there to answer any questions throughout the process. The results exceeded our expectations. With 2 young kids, this training was a godsend. We are thrilled with the results and would highly recommend Indy K-9.

Margaret and Melvin really know dogs and LOVE to teach. From our initial Consultation Session, to the Board and Train, and throughout Follow Up Classes, they both have given 110% to each of their fur-clients and families. Benny, 1-year old in-tact, male Bernese Mountain Dog, was 10.5 months old when he began training at Purpose Driven K-9 and recently graduated with flying colors from his final review class after a 2-week Board and Train turning 1 year old. Over the last 3 months Benny has become a much more confident, attentive, and playful pup because of the hands on approach they gave him in the Board and Train, but also because of the support and structure offered to us when we took him home for continuous learning. Because of Margaret’s structured approach to training, praise, and teaching Dog Owners the skills needed to succeed as pet parents, my fiance and I feel more at ease knowing how to communicate clearly with Benny while encouraging him to be his full puppy-teen self. The training/boarding facility is clean and accessible (even with a full kennel it never smelled like urine or looked mismanaged), their staff are friendly and willing to help answer questions when we have dropped off for Boarding or needed help scheduling a follow up training session. Benny adores Gracie and Melvin. If you want to strengthen your relationship with your dog, get personalized attention to address your dog’s behavior, and meet people who TRULY love dogs, please consider them for your training needs. We will be going back for future socials, boarding, daycare, and training as long as we are welcome there and want Benny along for the ride!!

Purpose Driven K9, owner Margaret and her staff, are exceptional trainers/dog handlers. I have had them train two large dogs. Murphy, an 85 lb. American Bull Terrier and Max, an 85lb. Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Both were high energy dogs who played hard, were very strong and needed training to help us manage, teach and enjoy them. The staff members were extremely knowledgeable, talented and caring trainers. They emphasized that training a dog’s owner was as important and necessary as training the dog. My dogs are now well behaved and a great joy to me and my family. I am so pleased with the results. I highly recommend Margaret and her staff!

We have a chocolate lab who is as hyper as a chihuahua! We really thought we would have a hard time training him but like a miracle Margaret had him listening and doing things that just amazed us the very first class. The owner and the employees at Purpose Driven K9 are very educated experienced and kind. Margaret is also renowned for her own training methods that she has been invited to some of the top conferences to speak on. If you want what is best for your fur baby this is undoubtedly the best place to be and should be your first choice it is mine it will be mine from this point on. Our chocolate lab just graduated the class and is doing outstanding!

10 out of 10 STARS!!! Margaret and Melvin are kind, experienced, and sweet dog trainers!, Being a 74 year old lady, I was beginning to think I made a mistake in adopting my 7 month old Irish Goldendoodle … although I loved her so much. Nica was very high energy & difficult to control. I enrolled her in the Board and Train and noticed Margaret and Melvin don’t just train dogs, but they help you understand your dog from your dog’s perspective…why she reacts in certain ways, etc. Throughout Nica’s training, they kept a watchful eye on the dogs AND their trainer, thereby helping any puppy or their owner that was struggling. They were so instrumental in helping me discover minute details to better handle her. They gave personal attention during group training whenever they observed anyone of in the group struggling. I can’t tell you how many times they helped Nica and me!
Nica was always excited when she saw Margaret, Melvin or Gracie!
Margaret and Melvin LOVE dogs, and dogs LOVE them!!❤️❤️ Nica LOVED them! ❤️❤️ I am proud to say Nica is a graduate of Purpose Driven K9!!! … and yes, I kept my special fur baby!!!
THANK YOU MARGARET AND MELVIN!! ❤️

Best dog trainer! My dog, Jonas, has always been friendly, but was extremely rambunctious. Was always jumping and putting things in his mouth. Only 4 private sessions with Margaret and Jonas now listens much better, has since stopped putting things in his mouth he’s not supposed to have, and jumping is significantly less. Highly recommend!

Moxie absolutely loved going to Bark Tudor! She would get so excited every time a trainer came to get her from the car. Her trainer, Reagan, built trust with her right away and was very successful at teaching her commands such as, “stay”, “leave it”, “come” and “go to bed”. Reagan and Kayla did a great job of teaching me commands as well as coming up with creative ideas on how to curb Moxie’s biting and digging tendencies. I plan to continue taking moxie back for Daycare there as I know she will be in good hands!

An animal behaviorist recommended the Bark Tutor. Bark Tutor’s trainer, Kayla, is a former zoo animal trainer. In three weeks, she took a puppy that didn’t pay attention and taught Arlo behavior to fit into our home. Kayla gave us the language to speak with our dog. She provided one-on-one lessons for us to work with our dog and, if needed, troubleshooting. Bark Tutor provides daily reports along with excellent how-tos and tips. Arlo was excited to go to school every day. Highly recommend!

My high expectations for Bark Tutor were completely exceeded. Two weeks into puppy life with Raggy, I was questioning my decision making skills, but their training program quickly turned things around. Reagan, his primary trainer, was excellent at teaching me about both general puppy behavior and Raggy’s specific needs. The detailed behavior report cards, homework and training tips were insightful and educational. Kayla has been brilliant in helping us work through challenges at home using her talent for explaining training concepts in simple, actionable terms.
Raggy continues to attend daycare at Bark Tutor, loving supervised play with other dogs and seeing his favorite trainers.
Bark Tutor’s comprehensive approach to positive training has provided him with the foundation to be a well adjusted family member with great social skills and manners.
I love this place!

I recently had the pleasure of bringing my second puppy, Lucy, to Bark Tutor, and once again, I cannot recommend them enough. The training experience was fantastic, and it made having a puppy again, so much easier. Knowing how to work with Lucy and reward her for good behavior has been invaluable.

A special shoutout to Kayla and Madison, who were both phenomenal to work with. Their patience, expertise, and genuine love for dogs made a significant difference. They took the time to ensure that both Lucy and I understood the training process, which has helped us bond and communicate better. And I can’t wait to bring her back for daycare and ongoing training as she gets older.

Having had two puppies trained at Bark Tutor, I can confidently say that the skills you and your puppy learn here are top-notch. If you’re looking for a place to train your puppy and foster a great relationship with them, Bark Tutor is the place to go.

Medical.Mutts trained my service dog I received through them. During the 11 day training period of teaching me to work with her, they were VERY compassionate and caring; while working with me while having my medical issues happening there on site. They had Maisie trained very well and work with me learning all the cues with her. I’m so appreciative of them, the knowledge of the trainers, and the support of after taking her home for however long I need it. I also LOVE the fact that they rescue these lovely dogs from Shelter and Humane Society’s and give them a second chance at being outstanding dogs. If anyone is looking for a Service Dog I would undoubtedly send them here. Thanks to EVERYONE here, I have a Service Dog and best friend who is helping me in my journey of life. I can’t thank them ALL (each and everyone of them enough).

My mother drove nearly halfway across the country and paid a King’s ransom for a service dog. Only to get a half-trained dog that was still chasing around the “training cat” at their facility – which apparently the staff found humorous. It also behaves worse at home than most shelter animals that I come across. Taking advantage of desperate, disabled people is a whole new low.

I can only speak to their adoption side, nothing to do with their training or service dog side. My family saw posts about a Labrador Mix who was up for adoption through Medical Mutts, as he had previously failed out of their Service dog training. We were very excited, because after speaking with the Medical Mutts kennel manager, Brittany, multiple times, it was made clear that this was the PERFECT dog for our family (or so it seemed). Based on the information she provided, this dog seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime family dog. We were under the impression this dog did excellent in his obedient training, was extremely sweet and safe for young children (we have a 15 month old baby and we communicated her safety was our #1 priority), fully house trained, etc. There were no “cons” or criticisms shared about this dog. We were even told he was a therapy dog and had earned certifications. Brittany said the only reason he failed out of their service dog program was because he didn’t have enough “desire to work”, which she brushed off as being specific trainer lingo but ultimately said that it did not mean anything negative about his behavior. We are not from Indianapolis, so we drove 300 miles / 5.5 hours round trip with a baby in the car to come meet and presumably adopt our dream dog (the Medical Mutts team knew we were making this drive). When we arrived, we were absolutely shocked to meet a dog that did not even remotely fit the description we were given. The dog was not a “bad” dog, but he was a large, clumsy, hyper, puppy-brained dog that lacked basic obedience training. He chewed and bit at our hands (very dangerous for a young baby!), I watched him chew up a plant in the lobby, he chewed his leash. This dog was extremely jumpy and actually knocked me down. I would NEVER feel comfortable having my toddler around this dog even for a minute, let alone living in a home together. In my opinion, this dog should not have been recommended to a family with children under 5 as he could easily hurt a small child. We were extremely confused why we were mislead. The staff person who was present while this was happening, Shelby, was equally confused when we told her how the dog was originally described to us. She apologized profusely for our wasted time. She admitted the dog is NOT a certified therapy dog, that he needs obedience training, and that he “should really be on anxiety meds to help with his behavior”. Seriously?? Shelby also added that he failed out of the service dog program because he showed pre-anxiety. This is NOT what we were originally told! To say we felt dumbfounded and disappointed would be an understatement. We would never have wasted an entire day making a 300 mile round trip if we knew the reality of the dog we would be meeting. We feel Medical Mutts did a complete disservice to us by being untruthful and making this dog seem like a perfect fit for our family. On the plus side, we’ve learned to request video in the future! I messaged Brittany directly about what happened when we met the dog, and I have not received any response.

Fetch is wonderful. They sincerely care about their “customer dogs” and treat my pup like their own. The puppy training was a great way to learn the ropes — for both of us. I have loved Daisy, the trainer. So knowledgeable and caring. I’m sad our four weeks are over but love that we can now transition to full time day care at same location. Thank you, Fetch!

Our puppy, Harry, just completed the four week puppy program. His teacher, Daisy was terrific. Her approach is calm and positive. He has learned many new skills. The parent puppy lesson at the end of the week was so helpful to know how to reinforce the skills taught throughout the week. I highly recommend this program. Thank you, Daisy.

We love Fetch! My older dog has gone to Fetch since he was 10 weeks old. All the workers love dogs, and I know my dogs are loved on when they are there. Recently, the owner has added enrichment activities for the dogs, and I can see how happy my dogs are to get the one on one attention. They have a new level of excitement when I tell them it is time to go to school. Highly recommend Fetch!

People are nice and the trainer is top notch. We sent our Corgi puppy there for Puppy Kindergarten and it was an excellent experience. He became much less reactive to other dogs due to the socialization and they really started us off right with his obedience training. So much easier to deal with him afterwards. So happy that we are going to keep him there for day care everyone once in a while.

We have done both puppy camp and day camp for our dog. Kim and her team are communicative. They respond quickly and bring issues to our attention right away. Our dog had a minor medical scare while at camp; they notified us right away. Sent pictures. Communicated with both me and my partner. While he was driving to Fetch, Liam walked our pup to the ER Vet down the street to cut down on wait time for our dog to be seen rather than wait for my partner to do the transport. They do a great job of showing appreciation for customers and have monthly themes/photo shoots/activities that are adorable. My only wish is that they had dedicated and secured green space, but they walk the dogs regularly and our pup is nothing but WILD after days at Fetch.

The Fetch team is so helpful, caring and attentive. Our girl Pepper goes once a week for socialization and play and has also boarded at Fetch. I cannot stress how accessible they are with us as dog parents and loving they are with our Pepper. Their location is close to home, clean and easy to access. Hours are great. If on the rare occasion we need to call, they are responsive.

We sent our 11 year old husky for training with Samantha. He’s a rescue & had never been inside before. We weren’t expecting much given his background – he had no leash experience; he was the one taking you for a walk. We were blown away when he came home. He went from essentially being wild to becoming a well-behaved family pet. We can walk him on a leash & even take him in public now without any issues. He gets along with our cats without any issues whatsoever. He listens really well & we are beyond impressed with the difference in such a short time period. We weren’t sure about making such an investment in a senior dog with potentially not a lot of time left but it was well worth it!

I cannot express how amazing Samantha is! We did a 2 week board and train with our 18 week old German shepherd, Rogue. She now has a solid recall, is getting better at the leave it command, and overall just a happier, more obedient pup. Would recommend to everyone. Can’t wait to continue our training each month

We can’t recommend Kingdom Elite enough. We took our 5 month old Boston Terrier, who was too scared to move if you put a leash on her. Samantha was able to get her to overcome her fear of the leash as well as learning on leash commands.

Samantha was great throughout the process answering any questions we had as well as sending us update videos while our dog was away. If you’re thinking about any board and train programs I will always recommend Samantha at Kingdom Elite K9.

We took one of our dogs there to stay for 6 weeks and our other to stay for 3. We had a decent foundation but needed help getting both to the next step. Samantha was able to get amazing results working with them. Both dogs loved her, and her training methods were exactly what we were wanting. Trusting someone with your dogs for that long is hard but she never gave us any doubt they were in great hands. I would never hesitate to leave another dog with her. The money was definitely a worth while investment!

Samantha and Brian are absolutely fantastic. Registered Kylo for their 6 week program and amazed at the amount of things he’s learned and how nice it is to have a dog that’s a joy to walk and adventure with! Highly recommend and will be returning I’m sure for random tricks and tune ups. Thanks again!

We were looking for a reputable trainer with great reviews for our 6 month German Shepherd, and came across Kingdom Elite K9, with nothing but 5 star reviews and great details. We took our GSD for the 6 week Elite board and train, and after picking her up and having her for almost a week, we can happily say, worth every penny. Samantha provided progress updates regularly with videos of training which put our minds to ease while wondering how it was going. Our GSD came home a whole new dog. She is now 8 months old, and shows a night and day difference on obedience. Samantha also equipped us well to continue her training to ensure her time spent with Kingdom Elite K9 is retained and can be built upon. We recommend for anyone looking for a great trainer who loves dogs, and produces results. Truly thankful for Kingdom Elite K9, and look forward to return with a new puppy in the coming months.

Couldn’t leave zero stars, very disappointing. Took our Blue Heeler puppy for obedience class and the instructor was horrible with puppies. Her expectations were not realistic with the short attention span of puppies and made sparky comments about our puppy both in a group email to the class and during the class even referring to him as the loud mouth. Sad to say this trainer has run us off. We had taken another dog there for training and had a different instructor which was amazing. But apparently they have lowered their quality of instructor and we will not be back.

Very nice facility for an agility trial weekend! Love the mezzanine and the ring action view it accords. Adequate crating spaces. All five-foot bars were used, which is important for dog safety and refusal minimization. State of the art contact obstacles. Good footing on artificial turf surface. Only drawbacks were two support pillars in the agility ring restricting handling on some courses, and inadequate parking on Friday causing double parking. Adequate parking was available Saturday and Sunday due to agreements with neighboring businesses. Ample greenspaces for dog walking. Close to freeway exit, motels, and restaurants. I’d definitely trial there again!

Great place to train and develop your dog. The competitive obedience classes are informative and even though they are group classes, you get individual pointers throughout the session. I have already signed up for more classes with my dog!

If you are serious about agility, this is the place for you and your dog. The instructors are knowledgeable and can help you and your dog get to competition level. It’s a little bit of a wait getting started in class when you are first getting started, but it is totally worth the wait!

I am not sure about the training, I just know that the customer service is terrible at the place on Main St. We went in there to check it out, there was not a sign on the door or hours of obvious times of day they are open, however we did hear them grooming, so assumed they were open, especially since the door was unlocked. We waited patiently about 20 minutes and when they finally came to the front, the lady was very curt to us, so unfortunately we will not be using this company.

I admit I was highly skeptical when my husband wanted to send our 7-month-old puppy for a 3-week board and train. However, I am now eating my words because she is a completely different dog after working with Marianna! She came back so much calmer, sweeter, and so well behaved! Before we sent her to All Paws on Deck, our puppy was aggressively biting when playing, would not calm down, would not listen, and we were worried we would have to get rid of her because she was too rough with our child. However, since she has come back she has been the most well-behaved dog! She loves to cuddle, doesn’t mouth or bite, listens the majority of the time, and she and my daughter have become great friends. Marianna is a miracle worker. Don’t hesitate to send your dog to her.

I wanted to share what an awesome experience we had with All Paws on Deck Pet Traing for our two dogs. After speaking with Marianna we decided to first bring our 5 month old Bernese Mountain Dog. We run a campground and needed him to have good manners and with his potential size being 150 pounds we definitely didn’t need him to jump on our renters. Buster was with Marianna for 3 weeks and since picking him up after his training I can’t begin to tell what an excellent, well mannered, well behaved boy he is. On leash he walks right by my side, if I stop and talk he sits or lays down right at my side. Off leash he never strays, comes when called and if greeting someone always sits when being petted. Marianna is an excellent trainer and I highly, highly recommend her. We were so impressed we took our 1 year old Golden Retriever to her as well. She had a terrible jumping problem when greeting people. We know longer have that problem. Marianna worked with her and gave us the tools and commands to work with Boozy after we took her home. I could go on and on about Marianna and she is worth every penny we spent for both dogs. And when we get another Bernese pup he/she will go to her again.

Starting with my very first email to Marianna she was very responsive and helpful. I recently adopted a rescue who’s less than a year old and after 6 weeks of customized training exercises, his obedience and skills have grown so much! He’s better able to focus when I need him to, his separation anxiety is well on its way out the door, and overall the exercises Marianna coached us on have made it easier for both of us to communicate what we need to each other. I’d definitely recommend her, especially for anyone trying to train a new pet!

    Consultations and Legal Advice

Civil attorneys can provide consultations and legal advice tailored to dog training schools in Indianapolis, helping owners understand potential liabilities, safety requirements, and regulatory considerations. These initial discussions often cover risk assessment, the adequacy of safety protocols, and the implications of local ordinances on training activities. By outlining foundational legal options and potential outcomes, attorneys help school operators make informed decisions about program structure and client expectations. Clients can gain clarity on how to document policies, respond to incidents, and communicate legal standards to staff and clients.

    Contract Drafting and Review

For dog training schools, having precise and enforceable documents is essential. The practice of contract drafting and review in Indianapolis covers waiver and release forms, consent agreements, and service terms that delineate responsibilities for handlers, trainers, and clients. Attorneys assess risk allocation within contracts, address cancellation and refund policies, and ensure enforceability across state lines when applicable. Clear agreements help prevent misunderstandings and provide a solid basis for resolving disputes.

    Dispute Resolution and Mediation

When conflicts arise between clients, trainers, or partnering facilities, dispute resolution and mediation services can offer efficient paths to resolution without litigation. Civil attorneys in Indianapolis facilitate mediation sessions, draft settlement agreements, and, if needed, coordinate with arbitration or court proceedings. Emphasizing confidentiality and collaborative problem-solving, these processes aim to preserve client relationships while achieving fair outcomes for all parties involved.

    Employee and Contractor Rights

Dog training schools often employ staff and contract trainers, making employment law support important. Attorneys advise on proper classification of workers as employees or independent contractors, help navigate wage disputes, and address workplace discrimination or safety concerns. Guidance on non-compete agreements, training program staffing, and compliant onboarding practices helps schools maintain legal and ethical employment standards while protecting their operations.

    Liability and Personal Injury Coverage

Liability concerns are central to running a dog training facility. Attorneys conducting liability evaluations examine premises safety, supervision protocols, and the adequacy of insurance coverage. They assist with premises liability claims handling, coordinate with insurers, and help implement waivers of liability and incident reporting procedures that support swift and fair resolution of client injuries or damages arising from training activities.

    Intellectual Property and Branding

Protection of a school's identity is a key consideration in Indianapolis. Civil attorneys advise on trademarks and brand protection for school names, logos, and distinctive curricula. They help draft copyright statements for training materials and explore licensing agreements with instructors or partner facilities. This legal support helps schools safeguard their reputation and commercial value as they grow.

    Regulatory Compliance and Licensing

Dog training schools must navigate a web of rules at the state and local level. Attorneys review licensing requirements, ensure compliance with state and local regulations, and monitor animal welfare standards applicable to training operations in Indianapolis. They also help prepare and submit documentation for licenses, inspections, and certifications, reducing the risk of fines or shutdowns due to noncompliance.

    Disaster Recovery and Data Privacy

Maintaining trust with clients requires careful data privacy and robust records management. Attorneys advise on records management, data retention policies, and the implementation of secure security practices to protect client information and training records. In addition, they assist with disaster recovery planning to ensure continuity of service in emergencies and to meet any applicable regulatory data-security requirements.

Frequently asked questions about dog training schools in Indianapolis

What types of training do dog training schools in Indianapolis offer?

Dog training schools in Indianapolis typically offer a range of programs, including basic obedience and manners training, advanced obedience, behavior modification for issues like barking or chewing, agility for physical and mental stimulation, therapy dog prep for service/therapy roles, and sometimes service dog training for eligible candidates. Many programs are organized by age, breed, and skill level, with progression through a structured curriculum and regular progress checks.

How do I choose a good dog training school in Indianapolis?

Choosing a reputable school involves evaluating trainer qualifications, reading reviews, observing safety standards, checking class size and schedule options, and asking about a trial class or start-up guarantee. Look for a school that emphasizes positive reinforcement, transparent curriculum, and a clear progress tracking system.

What certifications should a trainer have in Indianapolis?

Many reputable trainers hold national or international certifications in canine training and behavior, such as CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, or credentials from organizations like IAABC. In addition, look for ongoing continuing education and membership in professional associations. These credentials can indicate a commitment to ethics and effective methods.

How long does typical dog training take?

Duration varies with goals and dog temperament. A basic obedience or manners course often spans 4–8 weeks with weekly sessions, while private lessons may progress faster or slower depending on consistency at home. More complex goals, like advanced obedience or behavior modification, can require several months of regular practice.

What is the cost range for dog training in Indianapolis?

Costs vary by program type and duration. Group classes typically cost less per session, while private lessons are more individual and priced per hour or per session package. Expect approximate ranges such as a few hundred dollars for a multi-week group course and several hundred dollars for private or specialty trainings, plus potential fees for assessments or homework plans.

Do dog training schools in Indianapolis offer private lessons?

Yes, many schools provide private lessons to address specific behavior issues, tailor a personalized plan, or accommodate your schedule. Private sessions can be helpful for dogs with anxiety, reactivity, or specialized training goals, and they allow the trainer to focus on your dog one-on-one.

What should I bring to the first class?

For the first class, bring items that support good behavior and safety, such as vaccination records, a flat collar or harness, a leash, waste bags, a supply of treats or a clicker if used in the program, and a crate or mat for rest breaks. It’s helpful to bring a list of medications or allergies and any behavioral concerns to discuss with the trainer.

How do trainers handle behavior problems?

Trainers typically start with a thorough assessment to identify triggers and patterns, then develop a behavior modification plan centered on positive reinforcement and appropriate behavior management. They may assign homework for consistency, and monitor progress with data or video observations. Safety considerations are addressed, and if needed, they may refer you to a veterinarian or a specialist.

Are group classes better than private sessions?

Group classes offer socialization, structured practice in a public setting, and can be more cost-effective, while private sessions provide individualized attention and faster progress on specific issues. Many owners combine both approaches to gain broad skill development and targeted improvement.

How can I evaluate progress and know if it’s working?

Measure progress by tracking milestones such as sit, stay, and loose-leash walking, along with moments of impulse control and calm behavior in everyday settings. Keep a practice log and request progress reports from the trainer. Periodic video recordings can help you see improvements over time, and you should notice greater consistency and confidence in your dog.
