The Egyptian offers a welcoming atmosphere and reliable service. From the moment you enter, friendly staff anticipate needs, and the space feels comfortable without being crowded. The menu delivers thoughtful flavors, with well-prepared dishes and generous portions.
Service remains consistently efficient, keeping the pace comfortable while you enjoy your meal. I especially appreciate the fusion-inspired plates and the generous portions that offer solid value without compromising quality.

It was confusing walking in as this was my first time here. No one greeted us at the door. Someone eventually came down to the front and told us it was open seating. We ordered water while waiting on everyone else in our group. They have bottled water which I think was $2 per bottle. They have a nice variety of vegetarian options. The food was really good. I would suggest allowing the cauliflower wings to substitute on the platter. They have a rooftop. One choice for a mocktail. Otherwise, you can create your own but it’s the same price as a cocktail.

The Egyptian is a nice place to visit but I wouldn’t recommend going every day.
I was here for a conference and came two different days. I give them credit because the vibe is guys with headphones- zoned out on their laptops in flow state and hyper focus. Meaning, you stay for 5 or 6 hours and the server takes care of you.
Between the two days I spent well over $100 and probably toasted some parts of my lungs – but there are far worse habits.
I like the decor. The food is very good. The gyro pizza was probably the best thing I tried. The tea was excellent and the $12 pit has good value because it has about 5 or 6 cups. It pays for itself at the third cup.
Thanks for the hospitality
WiFi access is good.

I need to make this crystal clear: last night was one of the most unsafe, reckless experiences I’ve ever had at a venue.
A man got into the Egyptian Room with a gun. He brandished it inside and outside the venue, pointing it toward people and even toward the glass. This is not hearsay—I saw it happen. There was a security guard at the door who is supposed to be checking bags and patting people down, yet somehow this man made it through with a firearm.
When I reported it to security, instead of taking action, the guard blamed me. He said I “escalated the situation” by telling on the man. They never called the police. They didn’t shut things down. They carried on business as usual as if nothing happened.
This is exactly how mass shootings happen—when venues prioritize convenience and ticket sales over basic gun safety and accountability. Egyptian Room put hundreds of lives at risk by failing to enforce security and by silencing the people who tried to do the right thing.
Until management takes real responsibility and implements proper safety measures, I would strongly urge anyone to think twice before stepping foot in this venue.

Good staff. Food was okie. Vegetarian options are available. ( good options). Usually very busy place. The place might reserve your place in advance , please call and confirm. Usually a smoky interior. Good flavors of hookah. Quick service. People with asthma or smoke allergies, please be cautious. Be prepare for security check at the entrance. Appreciate the place for taking extra steps for the safety of everyone. Minimum charge paid parking available right outside the cafe. Wheelchair accessible.

I don’t know what’s going on. But they are clearly unorganized. The bouncer at the door is nice but the servers are not equipped to handle large parties. The new girl is overwhelmed I guess but that’s not excuse for poor service. There were several tables open and the server for them was missing which cause this back up.
The server we do have is very nice her name is Nijah.

Normally when I post a review it’s about a new dining experience, out with my wife, but rarely do I mention when I do carryouts.. but I couldn’t keep this to myself. I’d heard people mention the Shadow Lounge & it was always good things, but I’d never tried them out until now.. & maaaannnn.. I’ve been missing out! The pictures don’t come close to doing the dishes justice. I’m sure if I’d dined in, the presentation would’ve been more alluring than carryout containers, but trust me everything was delicious. They even paid close attention to specific details & modified my wife’s order to meet her dietary restrictions.. & making it to her liking guarantees that we’ll be back.. & I can’t wait! They’ve got several other dishes on the menu that I’ll be trying out sooner than later..

I visited The Shawdoe Bar Lounge and decided to try the seafood egg rolls. At $15, plus an automatic 18% gratuity (applied whether dining in or taking out), I expected something a bit more substantial.
As you can see from the pictures, the portion is not a full egg roll, and the filling—made with shrimp and crab—was more of a pasty consistency than the fresh, flavorful bite I was hoping for. Unfortunately, the taste came across rather bland, and I wouldn’t recommend this item for the price.
That said, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. The R&B music during my visit really set the tone for a nice lounge vibe. I’d come back for the drinks, service, and ambiance, but I’d pass on the seafood egg rolls next time.

I got here at like 5pm, nobody was there but me and I was okay with that. I took my parents out to eat here for my first time. The music was great. The food was average. I took pictures of the appetizers, the southwestern egg roles were my favorite of all of them. Seafood dip was dry and needs a sauce with it. The other ones were average. I ordered chicken wings and they were just okay. My parents ordered fried shrimp and catfish. They said it was pretty good. Service was decent. Everything looked clean. Not sure if I will go back for the food but I would like to see what it’s like late night when people are there.

The ambience in this place was everything. The food was wonderful. The seasoning of the food was great. No one in our group complained about anything they ordered. The owner walked throughout spoke to everyone made sure everything was taken care of as did we need anything. That is unheard of most of the time you don’t even know who the owner of restaurants are if you have never been to this lounge, please go we were there for my sister‘s birthday and had a wonderful time. I almost did not order anything because of the ratings that people had given don’t believe it try it for yourself. We also had the best waitress in the world, so respectful so tentative.

Whoever that’s in the kitchen is the BOMB!!!! I wish we were neighbors because I would be taking food over there all the time pitching in!! These steak egg rolls and that sauce is so darn gooood….I haven’t heard not one bad thing about that place!! All I keep hearing is how good the food and drinks are….I haven’t been in to rate the atmosphere myself but I heard that was good too!! I definitely will be trying the other foods that was recommended to me several times by several different people, and when I get a chance to go in I’ll be trying them drinks as well….i LOVE a place that gives you your moneys worth!!

I love hookah bars, but this is the worst one I have visited in Indianapolis.
They don’t clean the hookah very well or don’t separate them by taste, so your apple hookah will end up tasting something else!!
I would give them a 0 when it comes to how the hookah is handled.
Food is just ok.
Service is acceptable. We had a couple of requests, but the server forgot about them. It happens.
The atmosphere is like 6/10.
I don’t see the value in this place.

Customer Reviews
This place is fantastic. There are two other places that serve hookah in the area, but this is number 1 when it comes to the quality of hookah taste.
The food is terrific. The owner is Egyptian, so you feel the taste of Egypt in the meals. We ordered hummus, falafel, and french fries. So delicious.
I highly recommend the honey balls for dessert.
The service is top-notch. The guy who took care of us was very attentive.
When you bring your friends here, your date, or even go alone, you’ll feel the privacy and the relaxed atmosphere. Everyone was minding their own business, and I felt very comfortable during my time there. The music is appropriately volumed. I was glad it was not too loud. The song selection was good.
Tip: on weekends, the place serves unique fruits hookah. I believe they are bigger and made in a special way. You can ask for pineapple, apple, or orange flavors.

Food!!! Fabulous!
Service, friendly and attentive to my wants/needs. Frequently checked on me and never made me feel ignored.
Atmosphere, great. Open and chilled, inside and out.

Let me tell you something, best hookah and best food. This is all I can say about this place. The owner knows his audience and definitely knows how to make the best shawarma. We had such a great time at this place. Nice staff, spacious place and amazing everything. Even the black mint tea that we had was the best one I have ever had. Anyone visiting this town, needs to try this place if you have a taste for Arabic food and hookah.

Went on a Saturday night, the place wasn’t even half full but our server was more concerned with the only table larger than our 5 person group. Had the menu ready to order, but never got to try the food or drinks because our sever never came back. Had to go up to the bar to request more coals. Outrageous for a place adding automatic gratuity! Music is controlled by customers and was very hit or miss.

So I went to this place with a friend and upon walking in. We were not greeted. During our time there the server pretty much stood at the bar. The people there can stand to be friendlier especially considering the fact that you guys automatically take gratuity. Which that shouldn’t be your call. I will never return to this place. Someone needs to train the server on customer service. Service SUCKS!

Have lived on the south side for decades. Never been here until tonight. Wife and I met up with some old Southport high school friends that we haven’t seen in decades. It’s a small place with “regulars” but they were so kind and accommodating for our group of 12. Very welcoming and pricing was awesome. Thank you for making our mini reunion a success. Thanks again and we wish you well.

I got the catfish sandwich with fries and my sister got the wings. My fish was crispy and tasty, my sister said the wings did not have flavor. I believe she got them naked with sauce on the side. Bartender made my long Island strong and good , my sister patron margarita was good as well. Nice vibe in there , we went during the day on a Sunday, around 4pm.

I went here for the first time on Saturday & on there Grand Opening & to say the place looks good, the security did well, and the bartenders were very nice and the waitress was very generous with us, I was with my People’s. I really like the neon blue, which was pretty cool inside and outside. Which was cool also, you could Vape inside, but not smoke cigarettes only outside. If I’m not mistaken, but I saw someone that was smoking a Vape like a hookah. Which was different than the one I usually go to in Broad Ripple that’s good that they have that here close to home. To be honest, I like the vibe and that’s a good name to call the place.

We went on a what they called a sophisticated Saturday. Sophisticated it was NOT. Quite “trife”. There was a lot of what you call tennis skirts that nobody playing tennis and so short is not even worth you having a skirt on. The DJ was cool I like that he mixed in so r&b with the rap. It was a bit like a high school dance where the guy sit on one side and the girls were dancing on each other and twerking on the floor… Like hands and knees on the floor. I didn’t get any wings but they did look and smell good.. The bartenders were really good too.

Catalog of services offered by shisha lounges in Indianapolis
Licensing and Permits
A civil attorney can assist shisha lounge operators with obtaining and renewing all required licenses and permits. This includes the business license, tobacco sales permit, and, if alcohol is served, a liquor license. They review zoning compliance, fire and safety approvals, and occupancy certificates to minimize the risk of regulatory downtime. Attorneys prepare applications, assemble supporting documentation, and track renewal timelines to prevent lapses. They advise on signage, hours of operation, and how restrictions on tobacco products intersect with local rules. In addition, they coordinate with city agencies, respond to inquiries, and assist with due diligence during ownership changes or renovations. The goal is to establish a compliant licensing framework that reduces exposure to fines and suspensions while supporting steady operation.
Regulatory Compliance and Zoning
Regulatory compliance is a cornerstone for shisha lounges. A civil attorney can interpret Indianapolis zoning codes and state tobacco regulations to ensure the lounge occupies an appropriate zone and adheres to permissible uses. They review indoor smoking ordinances, air quality requirements, and noise restrictions that may affect operating hours. They help navigate city code and health department expectations, advising on floor plans, ventilation compliance, and signage that meets legal standards. When plans involve expansion, property modification, or new service lines, the attorney conducts risk assessments to prevent noncompliance that could trigger penalties, inspections, or temporary closures. They also keep records to demonstrate ongoing adherence during audits or investigations.
Employment Law and Workforce Compliance
Workforce management for shisha lounges benefits from prudent legal guidance. A civil attorney can support employee classification, ensuring workers are properly treated as employees or contractors to avoid misclassification issues. They advise on wage and hour compliance, overtime rules, and compliant pay practices. They help implement harassment policies, anti-discrimination measures, and safety training aligned with applicable laws. They also assist with onboarding, I-9 documentation, and background checks in a manner that respects privacy and legal requirements. In addition, they provide guidance on break schedules, tip management, and employee records retention to minimize the risk of wage claims or illegal terminations.
Supplier Contracts and Vendor Management
Contracts with suppliers and vendors govern critical aspects of a shisha lounge’s operations. A civil attorney can aid in contract drafting and vendor management by creating clear terms for delivery schedules, quality standards, and payment obligations. They review NDAs and confidentiality clauses, and establish risk allocations through indemnities and warranties. They ensure compliance with tobacco product regulations and import/export requirements when sourcing equipment, tobacco, charcoal, and hospitality supplies. The attorney also helps negotiate cancellation rights, force majeure, and dispute resolution provisions to reduce exposure to supply interruptions or price volatility.
Real Estate and Lease Negotiations
Leases for shisha lounges require careful scrutiny of risk and flexibility. A civil attorney analyzes real estate leases for terms on rent, escalations, renewals, and maintenance obligations. They review outfitting allowances, build-out responsibilities, and the handling of improvements and fixtures to avoid later disputes. Assignment and subletting provisions, exclusive use clauses, and signage rights are carefully negotiated to protect ongoing operations. The attorney also assesses compliance with occupancy limits, emergency egress requirements, and local zoning implications in the lease context, helping clients negotiate favorable terms and minimize future liability.
Intellectual Property, Marketing, and Advertising Compliance
Brand protection and responsible marketing fall within the scope of civil legal services. An attorney can assist with branding protection, including trademark clearance and registration processes for logos and service marks. They review marketing materials to prevent false or misleading claims and ensure compliance with local advertising rules, age-verification disclosures, and platform policies. They help protect digital assets such as domain names and social media handles and advise on trademark enforcement strategies. This guidance helps lounges maintain a consistent brand presence while avoiding legal challenges related to misrepresentation or unauthorized use of protected material.
Dispute Resolution and Litigation Management
Disputes can arise with customers, suppliers, landlords, or employees. A civil attorney can guide dispute resolution strategies, offering mediation or arbitration to resolve conflicts efficiently and privately whenever possible. When disputes escalate, they prepare for litigation, including case assessment, discovery, and trial readiness. They also help negotiate settlements, enforce contracts, and seek injunctive relief when noncompliance or harassment threatens the business. Proactive risk reduction through well-drafted agreements and clear expectations is a key component of effective dispute management.
Insurance, Risk Management, and Liability
Managing risk is essential for any hospitality operation. A civil attorney reviews and negotiates liability insurance, general liability, and any industry-specific policies such as product liability or umbrella coverage. They assess the need for liquor liability (if applicable), event coverage, and workers’ compensation provisions. They help implement risk-transfer strategies, including waivers and releases for events or staged experiences, and ensure contract language properly allocates risk through indemnification provisions. The result is a comprehensive risk management framework that supports safe operations and financial resilience in a dynamic market.
Frequently asked questions about shisha lounges in Indianapolis
What is a shisha lounge and what should I expect when I visit?
Shisha lounges are venues where guests can enjoy flavored tobacco or herbal options through a waterpipe, also known as a hookah. You can expect a comfortable seating area, a menu of flavors, and staff who assist with lighting the bowl, adjusting charcoal, and maintaining hygiene. Many lounges aim for a relaxed atmosphere where guests can socialize, listen to music, and sip non-alcoholic beverages or tea while they smoke.
Are shisha lounges in Indianapolis legal and what are the age requirements?
In Indianapolis, smoking laws apply to commercial spaces and are enforced by local authorities. Most shisha lounges require patrons to be 21 years of age or older, though there can be exceptions based on the venue and local rules. Always check the entrance policy and ask staff if you are unsure about age restrictions or rules regarding minors in certain areas of the lounge.
What safety and hygiene measures should I expect?
Responsible lounges prioritize cleanliness and sanitation, including using single-use mouthpieces, regular cleaning of hoses and surfaces, and proper handling of hookah equipment. Staff should follow food and beverage safety standards and be prepared to explain sanitation practices to guests upon request.
How do lounges manage ventilation and smoke quality?
Shisha lounges typically rely on dedicated HVAC systems with air filtration and strategic room design to minimize lingering smoke. While some amount of smoke is expected, many venues strive for good air quality through regular air exchanges and smoke control measures.
How are prices structured and what should I expect to pay?
Pricing often includes a base seating fee, a per-bowl or per-session charge for tobacco, and costs for charcoal, mixers, and beverages. Some lounges offer hourly rates or bundled packages for groups. Always review the menu and ask about taxes and gratuities before ordering to avoid surprises.
What flavors and options are typically available and can I choose non-tobacco alternatives?
Common flavors range from fruity profiles like mango and grape to dessert-inspired options. Many lounges offer herbal shisha or nicotine-free options for guests who prefer non-tobacco products, though availability varies by location. If you have allergies or dietary concerns, ask staff about ingredients before selecting a flavor.
Can I book private rooms or arrange events?
Yes, many Indianapolis shisha lounges provide private rooms or semi-private spaces for groups, celebrations, or corporate gatherings. It’s wise to reserve in advance, especially on weekends, and to discuss capacity, food and beverage options, and any music or decor requests.
Is there a dress code or etiquette to follow?
While policies vary, most lounges encourage guests to follow basic etiquette, be respectful to staff and other guests, and dress appropriately for a public venue. Some locations may prohibit loud behavior, disruptive conversations, or photography without permission, so it’s helpful to review the house rules when you arrive.
Are food or beverages available beyond tea and coffee?
Many shisha lounges offer a selection of light snacks, pastries, and non-alcoholic drinks. Some may serve alcoholic beverages or partner with nearby food vendors. Check the menu to understand what is offered, service hours, and any food safety policies.
What should I do if I have questions or concerns during my visit?
If you have questions, reach out to the lounge’s staff or management for guidance on policy, safety, and accessibility. If you encounter a safety issue or feel uncomfortable at any time, communicate promptly with an employee so it can be addressed according to established procedures.
