My childhood neighborhood market. This store was also a safe haven for us as well. I had to take a trip back to Chuck’s.

They have a lot of hard to find deli meats and a huge selection. Whenever I’m in Indiana I stop here and I’m spending $50 on deli meats that I don’t have back home.

This market has been around since I was a kid, my mother use to love to get her round colby jack cheese sliced thin from there. It warms the heart to see that this store is still pretty much the same, tho there have been some updates of course. The staff are as friendly as ever, much wider selection of groceries, prices are not bad at all, no long wait at the register. I love the added personal touch of the memory walls-photos of all the shoppers that have come in thru the years hugged every wall of the store in a unique collage. Very humble market

Private own the best of the best. It’s hard to find mom / pop stores anymore. Going there it puts you in the mind of how it used to be , and not over price . My favorite thing to get are moon pies ,the original size ❤️ ❤️

As part of my commute, I’ve been driving by this charming little market for 25 years and never stopped in! It’s underneath the overpass at 30th and Massachusetts Avenue off of Emerson Avenue.
I’ve always wanted to know what it was like there and I finally stopped today because I had a little free time. It’s a nice neighborhood market, perfect for running in and grabbing some bread, some juice, freshly sliced deli meat, regionally produced candies and all sorts of goodies.
My goody of choice was this black cherry lemonade drink from a company called Calypso. Delicious!

Goose The Market offers a thoughtful selection of meats, cheeses, and prepared foods that feel carefully curated. The atmosphere is welcoming, and staff are ready to guide decisions with patience. I appreciate the consistency and quality that keep me returning.
Prices reflect the caliber of the offerings, yet portions and flavors justify the spend. The serving staff balance efficiency with warmth, making every visit feel purposeful rather than rushed, and the variety makes it easy to explore new favorites.

From one week to the next, their sandwiches are half as big as they used to be. They did not lower the price, however. Two bites and you finish one half. If you are hungry, you will need to buy two sandwiches.

the food and selection there is amazing but the service definitely needs some work. i wasn’t greeted once or even asked how can we help you. it was my first time in there and i was just standing trying to understand the menu while the workers carried on their own conversations quite loudly. it was like no one had even walked in! the restaurant
doesn’t have a spirit to it which is so sad as it is a local based restaurant which offers breads from local bakeries, fresh herbs and such. you would think the community aspect of their business would show up in their service too. i have friends who go their regularly but it’s not like they are regulars because the staff doesn’t interact much and isn’t super friendly. a kind interaction + a great sandwich would make this place 5 stars

I’ve had some incredible food here: a whole beer smoked chicken and their carrot cake gelato are things I still think about years later. Sandwiches are tasty. However I do think it’s overpriced, even for the quality. It doesn’t keep me from coming back, but it keeps it from being a regular spot. Also, the butchers are always friendly and helpful, but I’ve never had a good experience with the cashiers. Almost every interaction I’ve had at the register has felt like I’m bothering the staff with my patronage. This spot could easily become a great neighborhood joint, but the price and unfriendliness are probably the two things keeping it from being all that it could be.

The Deli: Upstairs, the experience is bright, friendly, and delicious. A wide selection of unique sandwiches with high-quality meats and cheeses. The muffaletta is a must-try. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and clearly takes pride in the food.
The Bar: Descending a set of stairs transforms the atmosphere. The cellar is a hideaway with a completely different vibe, perfect for unwinding and conversations. The wine/beer selection is varied but focused.

Get the duck fat prosciutto and whatever cheese the person at the counter recommends. Seriously, the guy that helped us was incredible! Wabash Cannon Ball and Red Rock were my favorites from my first trip, but all of them were delicious! Next time we go we will definitely be getting sandwiches as well! They have everything you need for a unique charcuterie that will highlight local spots.

I ordered the Batali, sea salt cookie, and a chai latte. The cookie was so good not too much sugar but the right amount. The latte.. I dont think that it was prepared right. It tasted like pepper. The sandwhich was so good! Its super tiny but it filled me up. It’s very crunchy and a little bit spicy. 8.5/10

Reminds me of Fresh Thyme just a bit more intimate and darker vibe. It’s also a bit smaller too. Overall it’s good though. Good variety and quality. I also like that they have old school candies like pick n mix, advent calendars, and even kids friendly ones that are super sour and whatnot.

I purchase party platters from this location often, at least once a month. This was the first time trying the chicken bites, and I honestly was better off probably getting from Walmart. At $36 a tray, I had higher expectations. Past experiences the food has been delicious. I was so disappointed in these chicken bite trays, they were so burnt out and tasted like the had been sitting under a heat lamp for 3 days and thrown into the tray last minute. They were so hard to eat. Won’t be purchasing again.

While my experience with employees and overall inventory and store cleanliness remains positive, what is going on with the quality of their snow crab? I usually buy them 2-3 times each month and I’m not sure if they have changed where they are buying but the quality is definitely not what it used to be. Price per pound has dropped significantly but so has the quality. Bring back the high quality legs and I’ll gladly pay more. Frankly, if I want low quality product I’ll go to a discount store.
EDIT: unsure if I was heard or if the change was made by happenstance but shortly after my review and Fresh Market comment, the quality of the snow crab legs that I purchase almost weekly now has changed drastically for the better. It’s not just about one product it’s about being heard and the effort to make the change. THANK YOU FRESH MARKET!

My fiancé and I just moved to area last year and we love stopping by Fresh Market! They have the best quality protein hands down. The team behind the protein station and the middle food station (where you can get wings, sides, all the things) are outstanding! Family. They go above and beyond- ALWAYS!
I haven’t been treated the best by the team at check out and I hope that changes. Please make sure to card those under 30- it’s the law and offensive to my in-laws.

The appearance is that the food and bulk items are fresh. I honestly don’t know about the bulk items and their quality. Today I was looking for some gluten free premade items. I was surprised and excited about the variety. I got some chocolate donuts; eagerly tried them. They tasted off and that’s because the best by date was 12/9/24. I am thrilled with the variety of gluten free options but now weary of the freshness of the products.

I love Fresh Market
We split our time between Indy & Orlando & I regularly shop in both locations
The location in Indy on College Ave is great until you check out
Every time I check out, the clerk rushes rushes rushes
Never hands me my receipt (I have to rip it off & take it myself) & then they run off right away
Today I almost left a bag of groceries because she ran off right away & didn’t make sure I had everything
It’s strange how they can’t complete the sale process
Terrible customer service at point of check out

BEST RESTAURANT IN INDIANAPOLIS, honestly probably in the entire state, midwest, this side of the Mississippi. Anyway, my husband and I lived in Indianapolis for 2 years and had the absolute pleasure of dining here at least once if not several times a week. The food, staff, the vibes, are all amazing. Choosing what to eat is the most difficult part because it’s all so good. The beer, wine, and drink selections are also *chefs kiss*. They also have a beautiful market of groceries and of course, meats. If you’re in the area and don’t go here, your trip to Indianapolis is all for naught.

Hadn’t been here before so decided to give them a try during the pandemic. Ordered Saturday brunch for curbside pickup, and it was great I had the bagel and lox – omg to die for! My partner had the egg biscuit sandwich and these risotto balls in a red sauce, also fabulous. It was a lot of delicious food and a great value. Will be back! Thanks Turchetti’s!

My wife and I took a camping trip this weekend so I decided to upgrade a bit from the typical Kroger meat for our campfire meals and boy, did Turchetti’s deliver! The flavor of the meat was so rich and juicy, and it cooked so perfectly on the campfire! We thoroughly enjoyed every bite!
I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for high quality meats and groceries. Their customer service was exceptional and the selection of items is impressive. I can’t wait to visit again soon!

We went and tried the brunch menu today. I will be dreaming about this baked ricotta pancake for awhile. It kind of reminded me of gulab jamun balls you can get at indiana restaurants. Very delicious. The biscuits and gravy were just okay. The biscuits was great but the gravy was meh. The chorizo casserole was good as well! They have a basic breakfast platter as well.
They were very kind and quick to get our food. We will go back!

Might be the best smash burger I’ve had in Indy. Incredibly juicy, delicious sauce, and *just* messy enough. I added a 2nd patty and didn’t regret it, but a single 4oz patty would be plenty all on its own.
The tallow fries were next level. Perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Frying them in tallow makes them burst with flavor. No ketchup needed.
One of the quickest meals I’ve ever eaten. Had to slow myself down towards the end so I could savor it.
Highly recommend. And wonderful people!

This place is absolutely amazing. While walking up you can see the authenticity of the German meat shop. Open the door and get a breathtaking aroma of a smoker running and meat cooking. You walk in and it a giant glass deli case that is filled from
Side to side with all types of meats that you would like. While taking a gander at these amazing meats I was greeted by a voice that clearly had a German accent. This place is the real deal, they are from the fatherland and bring the meats with them. They even are authentic in the way they package the meat too. Just like the good ole days, paper and tape in a bag. Luckily everything is priced and names on the glass case that is holding the meat. Everything seemed to be fairly priced and since it is local and authentic. Well, sometimes that makes the price hike worth it. Now I bought the German bologna and the Bavarian bologna. I also could not leave an authentic German smokehouse without some braunschweiger. I am not the expert in it but I only got the coarse braunschweiger and did not really know the difference. But all in all everything that I purchased was of the best taste and best quality that you can find. I applaud these individuals for taking their heritage and turning it into a business that can make them successful and happy. That right there is the American dream. If your in Indianapolis and are looking for something authentic to take home to your meat lover in the family, come by and I know you will find something that will put a smile on their face and a belly full. This place is a one-of-a kind butcher shop that will make you feel like you are in Deutschland yourself. Come support your local business and you will not be disappointed in the service or the quality.

First time in a German, butcher shop, and it was a great experience. We weren’t sure what exactly we wanted, but the lady working behind the counter was really patient and helped us pick what wursts would work best for the recipe we were trying to make.
When you walk in, there’s a counter with all sorts of meats. They also have items listed that they can get you from the back!
The place felt super authentic!

Prices are extremely high in the market. We ate in the restaurant and our bill didn’t match prices on the menu. When we asked what happened, they told us the prices went up. $2.50 for a large drink on the menu. Cost $5 on the check.
Why are our people ripping off our own people?

I been to this store so many time because it’s just 5 mins from my house and I honestly like a lot but the customer service is horrible. The other day I went at 8:35pm and the man in the door close the door in my facesaying their closing. I would off understand if it had been even 10 mins before closing but no word, or say sorry, just signal and super rude. Very disappointed. The owner needs to do something about this. I stumbled upon this place today and was rewarded with the best pita I have ever had. I picked up the bag that had a slightly foggy look. This is because the bread inside was still warm! It was pillowy with a nice chewiness that you only get from fresh bread. Nice selection of everything else at fair prices, but I would come here just for the pita, it is that good.

(This review is for the restaurant which is inside the market) Food is good but service is very subpar. If you’re willing to put up with some confused conversation and extremely long wait times, definitely come visit.
This is Yemeni restaurant with lots of meat options and big platters to share. I recommend a Shawarma sandwich. The Mendi and Mixed Meat Platter was good too. The food seemed to have a bit too much salt in my opinion, but overall it was pretty good.

The outside worn out and not representative of what you’ll find inside. There is a grocery with tons of unique items for sale. And the honey section is astounding! There are so many global honey choices that even the most discerning queen bee would be impressed.

The last of a old tradition. A good old fashioned butcher that knows good meat. I only by my meat from here. And it definitely shows in the quality of the meals I prepare. One of the oldest businesses in the greater Indianapolis area. Definitely worth the visit.

Customer Reviews
They were amazing before COVID-19 now the prices are very high. The value you getting is very low. Half a hog is comparable to half a piglet. We went to get some pork chops today and the guy taking care of our order didn’t even put gloves to handle the meat. Yuck… we will not buy anything there anymore. I would not recommend this meat shop to anyone.

Tried this place for the first time over the weekend. Bought a bundle and I will say I am extremely impressed with the service. Just the friendliness of the butcher and the overall quality of the meat was incredible and the price you can’t beat it. Their bundles are amazing. I can’t say enough about them. This is my from now on go to meat shop. I honestly did not even want to write a review because I wanted to keep this place a secret because I didn’t want everybody going there. Moody’s is so overpriced. I will never go there again and the people there are kind of rude but this place overall I give them a 5 out of five amazing. Thank you so much! Got the economy bundle and it came with two fillets. Two porterhouse steaks. Two big chicken breasts. Four smoked chops, 3 lb of hamburger, oh and two New York strips and 2 lb of bacon so that’s a pretty good deal for $115

The staff are always friendly as can be. The quality of meat and the prices are good. Especially with everything being so expensive. They also take EBT, which I know helps a lot of people with kiddos because they have so many different meat bundles you can choose from. Wish they still could do deer meat but they carry bison etc definitely out go too for meat!

I tried to go this morning. I stood and waited and waited. Several workers cutting up meat – didn’t even glance my way. A repeat customer comes in and gets greeted by all!! A staff finally walks past and I asked if he could help me – response “oh one of those guys can, I gotta go outside to get something “. It should not be this hard to get help. I walked out. Very disappointing customer service.

I’ve been here several times, and have always been satisfied with my purchases. Friendly staff, quick service and good prices on great cuts of beef. Legal consultations and case assessment
Civil attorneys provide initial legal consultations to assess the facts, identify relevant laws and precedents, and determine potential case strategies. These sessions help clients understand their rights and possible outcomes, setting a clear path forward. A thorough case assessment includes evaluating evidence, timelines, and any procedural requirements that could affect the result. Clients can expect candid explanations of strengths, weaknesses, and the realistic prospects of success in different dispute contexts.
In many engagements, the attorney will outline a proposed timeline and a plan for next steps, including potential settlements or filings. The goal of consultations is to provide actionable guidance and to empower clients to make informed decisions about pursuing or resolving a matter. When needed, a preliminary risk assessment can help weigh costs, benefits, and strategic options before committing to formal representation.
For those seeking clarity, some attorneys offer document review as part of the consultation, identifying gaps, ambiguities, or ambiguous terms that could impact a case. Overall, these services establish the foundation for effective legal representation and proactive case management.
Contract drafting and review
Civil attorneys specialize in contract drafting and review to ensure documents reflect the parties’ intentions and comply with applicable laws. They focus on clear language, risk allocation, and the protection of interests through precise terms, definitions, and conditions. A well-crafted contract minimizes ambiguities that can lead to disputes later on.
During review, attorneys identify potential business risks, enforceable provisions, and gaps that may require amendments. They offer guidance on negotiation strategies and may propose alternative clauses to balance interests, timing, and remedies. In addition, they help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards that could affect enforceability.
For complex agreements, attorneys may provide a redline comparison and a consolidated set of recommended changes, enabling clients to understand the implications of each modification before signing. The objective is to secure a robust, legally sound contract that supports long-term goals.
Dispute resolution and mediation
Civil attorneys frequently facilitate dispute resolution and mediation to achieve mutually satisfactory outcomes without going to trial. Skilled advocates prepare clients for mediation, articulate their positions, and structure offers that preserve leverage while promoting compromise. Mediation often results in faster, less expensive, and more predictable resolutions than litigation.
In mediation, attorneys emphasize communication strategies, confidentiality, and the practical implications of settlement terms. They guide clients through the process, help draft or review settlement agreements, and ensure that any resolution aligns with legal rights and enforceability. When mediation does not resolve the dispute, the attorney may prepare for arbitration or formal litigation as a subsequent step.
Key elements include managing expectations, identifying non-monetary remedies, and safeguarding confidential information and trade secrets when appropriate. The goal is to achieve a fair resolution that minimizes disruption and preserves future relationships where possible.
Civil litigation and trial representation
When disputes proceed to court, civil attorneys provide comprehensive litigation and trial representation. This encompasses case evaluation, discovery, motion practice, and effective presentation of evidence. Attorneys prepare witnesses, organize exhibits, and develop persuasive arguments to support litigation objectives.
They oversee procedural requirements, monitor filing deadlines, and coordinate with experts to strengthen the record. Trial readiness involves crafting a coherent narrative, anticipate counterarguments, and manage the courtroom dynamics to protect clients’ interests. Throughout, communication with the client remains a priority to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
Outcomes in civil litigation vary, but skilled trial advocates aim for favorable judgments, favorable settlements, or meaningful alternative resolutions that align with the client’s long-term plans and risk tolerance. Clients can expect meticulous preparation and persistent advocacy to safeguard their legal rights.
Personal injury and negligence claims
For matters involving harm to persons or property, civil attorneys can guide personal injury and negligence claims. They assess causation, damages, and responsible parties to determine the best route to compensation, whether through negotiation or litigation. Key elements include documenting medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
Attorneys help gather and preserve evidence, coordinate with medical and accident reconstruction experts, and navigate insurance processes. They work to maximize a client’s recovery while ensuring claims are supported by a robust damages assessment and a clear liability theory. Throughout the process, they communicate expectations and potential timelines to manage client decisions.
Property, real estate disputes
Civil lawyers handle property and real estate disputes that involve title issues, boundary matters, zoning, and land use. They offer guidance on due diligence during purchases, interpret deeds, and review lease agreements or purchase contracts to protect interests. The goal is to resolve conflicts efficiently while preserving property rights and market value.
Disputes may include conflicts between neighbors, homeowner associations, or commercial tenants and landlords. Attorneys provide strategies for negotiated settlements as well as representation in court when necessary, always focusing on protecting ownership rights and ensuring enforceable resolutions.
Employment law and workplace issues
Civil attorneys advise on employment law matters, representing employees or employers in disputes over discrimination, harassment, wage and hour violations, and wrongful termination. They help interpret federal and state laws, review workplace policies, and determine whether settlements or formal complaints are appropriate.
Key services include investigating allegations, drafting policies and handbooks, negotiating severance agreements, and guiding clients through legally compliant resolutions. They also assist with preventive strategies, such as training programs and compliance audits to reduce future risk. The aim is to secure fair outcomes while maintaining practical workplace operations.
Estate planning, probate, and fiduciary duties
Civil attorneys support clients with estate planning, including wills, trusts, and incapacity planning, to ensure assets pass according to wishes. They also handle probate administration, estate taxes, and resolve disputes among heirs or beneficiaries. Clear documentation and fiduciary duties help protect assets and minimize conflicts after a person’s passing.
In addition, attorneys advise on trust administration and remediating issues related to beneficiary designations or power of attorney arrangements. They work to preserve family harmony, minimize probate costs, and ensure that final wishes are carried out in accordance with applicable law. Clients benefit from thoughtful planning and careful execution to safeguard legacies.
Frequently asked questions about butcher shops in Indianapolis
What types of meat do butcher shops in Indianapolis typically carry?
In Indianapolis butcher shops typically carry a broad selection to serve home cooks and professional kitchens. Common staples include beef, pork, chicken, along with lamb, venison, and sausage. You’ll often find cuts such as ribeye, tenderloin, sirloin, pork chops, shoulder, and bone-in options. Many shops also offer ground meat and specialty cuts like flat iron or short ribs. In addition, there are house-made products like sausages, brats, bacon, and smoked meats, plus a selection of seasonings and marinades.
Can I get custom cuts or special requests?
Yes, most shops provide custom cutting services. You can request bone-in versus boneless, specify thickness for steaks, or ask for trim levels (like fat trimming or steak cubes). For special preparations such as marinated meats, poultry spatchcocking, or roast rubs, call ahead to confirm availability and lead times. Some shops will tailor orders for holiday menus or meal kits.
How can I tell if the meat is fresh?
Freshness indicators include a bright color and firm texture on the cut, a moist surface without excess liquid, and a clean, cool aroma. Check that the meat is properly labeled with a sell-by date and storage instructions. Packaging should feel vacuum-sealed or well-wrapped to prevent quality issues. If you have questions about freshness, ask the staff about sourcing and processing dates.
Do butcher shops offer local or specialty products?
Many Indianapolis butcher shops emphasize local sourcing, working with nearby farms for beef, pork, and poultry. You can expect a selection of heritage breeds, grass-fed, or pasture-raised options when available. Shoppers may find seasonal specialties and family-owned brands, and some stores host butcher demonstrations or have in-store butchers ready to answer questions about origins and handling.
Are there options for dietary needs or alternative proteins?
Yes. Options include organic and grass-fed beef, free-range poultry, game meats like venison or rabbit, and sometimes seafood or plant-based proteins for variety. If you follow a particular diet, ask for ingredient lists, allergen information, and nitrate-free or no-added-sugar options. The staff can guide you to alternatives that fit your needs.
What are the most popular items at butcher shops in Indianapolis?
Popular items include steaks such as ribeye and sirloin, roasts like prime rib or sirloin roast, pork chops, sauages, and bacon. Locally made house sausages, brats, and sliced deli meats are also common. Many shoppers value quality control, trimmed fat, and the ability to request bone-in cuts or specialty cuts.
Do shops offer ready-to-cook or prepared foods?
Several shops offer ready-to-cook or prepared foods, including marinated skewers, roast-ready options, meat trays, and seasonal sides or bbq kits. You may also find house-made deli items and smoked products. If you need something specific for a gathering, staff can often assemble a custom platter or a cooking bundle.
How do you store meat after purchasing?
Storage guidance includes keeping meat in the refrigerator at or below 40°F (4°C) and freezing frozen items promptly to maintain quality. After purchase, wrap properly in plastic wrap or foil, use airtight containers, and label with the date. For longer storage, consider freezing in air-tight bags or vacuum-sealed bags to prevent freezer burn. Thaw safely in the refrigerator or use a defrost setting if needed.
What should I know about pricing and value?
Pricing varies by cut, quality, and sourcing. While some items may be priced higher than mass-market retailers, they frequently deliver better flavor, tenderness, and control over additives. Look for value in bulk buying, seasonal specials, or house-made products. Always request a clear price quote and weighing information when possible.
Is there a way to support sustainable practices when shopping for meat?
To support sustainable choices, consider selecting items from local farms, look for ethical practices, and favor reduced waste. Bring your own reusable bags or containers when allowed, ask about byproducts used (such as bones for stock), and seek minimally processed items with transparent traceability. Some shops participate in community-supported programs or offer eco-friendly packaging.
